I can normally get a lot of sterling under melt, has anyone sucessfully refined any sterling and what process did you use, did it end up as granular and then how did you smelt it for pouring in bars, thanks.
Re: Thinking about refining sterling silver to 999
Define a lot. Do you have a 20gal. tub, or a 20 foot storage shed full?
Back when I first became interested in PMs, I got all excited about the possibility of melting down computer motherboards & gold plated connectors.
Then I found out that the local scrap yard will buy them.
Or I can sell them on Ebay.
I vote to let someone else do the refining if you are hoarding for wealth.
An exception might be if you were a craftsperson/jeweler that needed a source of silver to work with.
Then it could add to the "mistique" of your product.
"Walk the gold trails of my good friend, do I. On my feet are "strong sole" of thick leather, purchased with much knowledge of physical gold. These shoes not go bare before our journey is done. On trail I see your "thin sole" gold investments cast aside and scavenged by beasts." - ANOTHER (THOUGHTS!) (04/14/01; 18:08:54MT - #: 51887)
