QWAK,southfork , Two diferent CURENT locations -- also the one in the GULF of MEXICO did not stop -- it had a spin off eddie which is normal from time to time then it returns -- it just DOES.

The ATLANTIC curent is MUCH much BIGER by at least a magnatude but then they are ALL interconected globaly to some extent.

I am sorry but personally a guy that has most of his life in special ops, psy ops, black ops etc. telling me the world is over because the gulf current has stopped and that England will most likely flash freeze because of this and then in the same breath blame it on Planet X and then on top of that use "The Day After Tomorrow" not so much as supporting evidence, but as a crutch is a little over the top. Let's start comparing water temperatures of the last few years (by the day) with daily water temperatures there now. If the stream has stopped since June 12, we should begin seeing a noticeable difference...especially as fall approaches.

Then he starts talking about "Planet X". If there really is a rogue planet entering our solar system, where is it now? Why can't we still see it? It should be big enough and close enough by now for any amateur astronomer with a good enough telescope to detect it. As far as I know, nobody has...

They found one just a fiew years back forzen in the ice up in siberia and did a documentary on how they choped it out of the ice and air lifted it out!

Weather channel showed the water ahead of Hurricane Earl at 84 to 85 degrees all the way to Cape Cod. Cape Cod is where the gulf stream turns and starts to head east north east then it curves and heads toward Medira Islands and turns south towards England. With the water still in the eighties I would say the Gulf Stream is doing fine.

I've read about flash frozen mammoths many times, though that does not make it true. And yes, with tropical plants in their stomachs.

I'm looking around for more information on the Gulf Stream. Currently I have insufficient data to know whether it is shutting down. Many thought melting glaciers in Greenland might shut it down, because too much fresh water would enter the system at that end. 20 degrees centigrade cooler, if accurate, is a lot!

It seems inconclusive to me so far.

If HAARP can guide hurricanes, I think keeping any storms from sending benzene, corexit, methane and hydrogen sulfide onshore would be a very positive use of that technology.

I saw some videos of crops with holes burned in leaves from Mississippi, and there are reports of skin burns from rain, and a swimming pool contamination.

The news is so censored that getting at any useful data is challenging.

My conclusion: this could shut down the Gulf Stream, but I cannot find convincing evidence that it has.

Like so many current events, this makes me want to add to our pantry. Food prices may make our pantry our highest return investment in the short to medium term.

The thing that has been a worry for stopping it has been adding fresh water from glacier melt which would change the salinity at the cold end and stop return flow.

I am presuming cold gas (methane) is the suspect at the southern end, but I'm not sure. I heard that the methane was cold enough to be partially frozen.

If the North Atlantic current is slowing, I'd first look to a solar minimum effect rather than the BP disaster.

About all I know so far is the UK has had some crappy weather the last few years and since last fall there has been much less MSM info on the current.
Bloggers like Sterling are common, but in common they offer no real information about current stability.

I'm also on the lookout for relation between the current and earth's magnetic field (electromagnetic field).

If the Gulf Stream stopped, it would be obvious, in addition to the temp changes you can often see it as a color change in the ocean as the stream runs up the east coast of the US. The stream is only a few miles off shore in south Florida and can be easily detected by casual boaters so high buck measuring equipment and knowledge isn't necessary to know of the continuity of the stream. Offshore near Islamorada there is a place called the Hump where the stream hits an underwater mountain and deflects up making the surface look like it's boiling over a huge area, it is a major fishing spot. That would be hard to hide if it disappeared. My point is that the Gulf Stream is easily found, measured, quantified, and observed by anyone with a boat or a plane. If it had stopped, it would have immediately made very big waves (P I) and everyone would know.

That is excellent information, TomD, that large numbers of ordinary people going boating or fishing can observe it directly. It means we would get the word on the net w/o waiting for dubious satellite data from MSM.

Of course, huge temperature changes in the UK would be pretty hard to keep quiet as well, and though there have been cooler than normal temperatures in my part of Texas, I doubt that is Gulf stream related. We got our first snow that stuck much past dawn in many years at my home last winter.

My understanding is that the whole of the earth's sea currents is at the poles. As the water freezes the salt "falls" out of the water and begins to sink. This is the start of the current, cold water down at the pole. As the water reaches the bottom, it spreads out and moves toward the equator. The warm water near the surface moves toward the pole to replace the sinking cold water, and the warming cold water rises to replace already warm water that is moving toward the pole.

Glacial fresh water reduces the salinity of the water near the pole, thereby reducing the "flow" of cold water down with the salt. I remember seeing a clip one time of ocean water freezing and you could see the salt sinking.

The flow of Gulf water up the coast is responsible for keeping coastal temperatures moderate during the winter. If the belt stopped, we would see temperatures drop significant'y in those loacations, however inland temperatures would remain the same. For example, temperatures in Moscow would not be affected. Temperatures in London would drop significantly.

It would be impossible for such an event to cause a masive "superstorm" that covers the enitre Nothern Hemisphere. The movie is Hollywood entertainment, not science.
