    If the 2016 coin has any shot at being decent it needs to sell out very soon.

    Wild speculation: These were struck last spring when gold was over $1300. The mint has these in inventory but didn't want to sell them anymore with yet another mandatory $50 price drop scheduled for later today. Thoughts?

    "Thoughts" ?

    Even when you think the sale for your coin is over, and you are in second place for low mintage (from 2011-2016), reality sneaks up on you and puts your coin in third place by 40 coins.

    That TPTB will make sure a "key" stays a "key". ;)

    Nearly all gold coins across the board had strong initial sales in 2016. This year they're weak. That could mean a lower strike of 2017 unc gold eagles than last year. For me though in this climate it's not worth chancing unless a shot at outright key is realistic.

    We are about 14 weeks into the year, and looking at previous posts in this thread, the coin usually sells out after 25 to 35 weeks of sales.

    I have never bought this coin before, but it looks interesting. Maybe at the 30th week, if sales are low, I might consider.

    hand raised...

    I have been following this thread over the years and took the bait.
    Of all the 'collectible' US Mint Au coins, this seems to be the true star as far as end of sale value. With all the Au coin options over the years, I assume that there is only so much fiat one can invest in given the coin of their choice.
    It is also a more difficult play when one tries to maintain a date set.

    Now imaging if this was 2011 and this coin would be at the 2000FRN mark, not including the premium?

    Gold coins selling badly this year. So I expect a low strike, and low sales for this one. Could equal a new key but just like Jackie Robinson being unseated recently, fewer will care. Safe bet long term but not a big flip winner, IMO.

    * "Badly selling coins"
    * The slight increase in the spot price
    * A price of more than 1500FRN
    * The multiple gold coin selections
    Regarding the Unc. Gold American Eagle, history has shown that this coin will have a small mintage due to the above. It will be interesting to see the final mintage numberand realized price in FRN for this years mintage.

    The discrepancy is that your first chart there does not include all the coins sold in the 4 coin sets. Your second chart does. The second one is the one to go by. FYI the final audited mintage for the 2013 coin is 7198. As for pricing greysheet is way off on a few; the 2008 is worth nowhere near 2100 and the 2015 is worth somewhat more than 1350.

    hern... thank you.

    I wonder why the US Mint doesn't account for the sets as well as the individual coin?

    The CDN/Greysheet is simply a guide, similar to the Redbook. I do not take their prices as realized and have been told that their is another dealer sheet that dealers adhere to more.
    What I have learned is that is does give the 'customer' a starting point when dealing with the dealer.
    Several years ago, I went to a shop to get an 'estimate' on my '08 Buffalo set. To say the least, I was low balled to under spot at the time. I simply looked at the dealer, said thank you and left the establishment.
