Thanks! A great resource. I see the "adult" bars are kinda pricey too.

That would be a negative, I picked it up for my father (paid a bit much for it) but it somehow hasn't made it to his collection.

I hope you know I was kidding? I'll have to be on the lookout for that one tho. Later: Saw one on eBay just now. 3 available. 1 sold.

They are as collectable as silver and some go up in value like numismatics.

Yes I knew you weren't serious.
All in good fun (I made it to the casino anyhow +$60 in a half hour)

I'll take a swing at those FORD bars after my CC payment goes threw next week (Went a little nuts with a 50 ounce JM bar last month and had to pay the piper this month)

I'm thinking Duck Calls??? (what they be?)
But I don't know, the girl looks a little suggestive and what does that have to do with duck calling?

Ok Back to the silver art bar topic :D
I found a listing for the Ford remanufactured Series art bars on the bay and a 1963 concept mustang bar recently sold for $79.95. (nice)

I made a trip to the silver store to pick up that one and a few more...when I got there the 1963 was sold as well as another (10 bars left of 12)
I went ahead and picked up 4 of the remaining choice bars at $25ea, spot was up a bit today so dealing was not an option (yes I asked) :D

It is middle of July, and a few bars/rounds turn up that catch my eye. But most are recent (last 4 years or so). I have even seen a few half ounce rounds from reputable firms that have been altered, so that they seem to read 2 troy ounce.

I like the ones put out by local companies to commemorate something, like their 25th anniversary. Also the occasional mystery bar. Today I found one that I had not seen locally before, one from the First Majestic Silver Corp. Sounds like an American Company, but it pictures what looks like a Mayan Pyramid.

FYI, if any of you folks want to post pictures of your art bars/rounds. The http://tokencatalog.com/ has a section for art bar/rounds, from any period. It is a free site and anyone can join. We are also trying to gather information on the issuers, which has not been easy. Many of the older bars seem to have been fly-by-night outfits. Sometimes they incorporated in one state, had a 'boiler room' type sales outfit in another state, and an altogether different company (a real 'private mint') making the rounds that they were selling at 5 or 6 times the then current price of silver. So regardless of whether you are paying a buck or two above spot, you are getting a much better deal than the people who were buying them at retail from the distributors.

The Mount Everest Mint looks like it was a short lived mint.

Nov. 26, 1973, a court in Philadelphia appointed a receiver for Mount Everest Corporation, Mount Everest Mint, inc., and Israel International Corporation. (SEC Nov. 29, 1973).

This info was found on the http://tokencatalog.com/display_rec...d=&SearchStringAnyWord=&action=DisplayRecords

Looks like they kept making bars into 1974 (that or someone bought the dies and mulled them with some other dies)? It seems to have been located in either Philadelphia or Israel?

The Mt Everest bar was actually part of a 2 or 3 coin set, have one at the lake.

Struck out again. There's a small pawn shop across the street from the post office I go to frequently. Finally decided to drop in and ask if they have any silver bars. He laughed and said "they go out as fast as I get them in." I did buy a tube of 50 1963D Roosevelts for $90. $1.80 ea. Kinda high, but all are nice, shiney uncirculated. He also had a few loose Mercury dimes for the same $1.80 each. Kinda worn, so I didn't buy.
Also stopped in my first "we buy gold" store. Surprised to find they do not sell, only buy. Is that the norm for these stores? So I won't bother trying others?

Well you should always try each store at least once or twice. One not to far away from me turned me away the first time, but the next time he sold me silver for spot and eventually I was able to buy 90% at spot or less :). No doubt he paid even less for it, but when you can buy local for less than melt you can't complain. Sadly he just closed closed up as well as the clowns just around the corner from me. Loads of the We Buy places have closed around town here.

Are the sheeple running out of gold chains? Or do the low PM prices keep them away?

I swung into the AZ gold and silver store today to see if the Vig over spot price would be the same now that spot is a dollar lower
The store was still at $4 over spot and to my surprise there was a new addition :D

The sales guy said it got lost in the back and he just put it out yesterday....I picked it up for $24
He also said he HAD the whole set :eek_ma:
Now its split up a bit.

There are also 5 other locations (makes me wonder what the other locations have)

    Again
I swung into the AZ gold and silver store yesterday to sell 6 grams scrap 14K gold in the form of a busted up bracelet that someone had found and had asked me what to do with (I guessed 3 grams IF its real by tossing it around a bit)
I sold the gold to the shop for $123 and my cut was a $10 Norfed 1/2 ounce silver.
I also snapped a few pictures of new arrivals and to see if the Vig over spot price would be the same now that spot is a dollar lower.
The store was at $5 & $8 over spot.
I had to check out these Land of the free bars (I thought they were somewhat rare????) I thought it funny/Questionable to see so many in one spot.
    american bar.jpg
I got home, did a little searching and heard about some FAKE ones....
I went back today and picked up the other interesting bar I had looked at (CitiBank) for $23.53
    citibank bar.jpg
Said to be rare in my search and some selling for $65/$85 on the bay recently.

I take the pics outside where there is enough sunlight to make the bar look bright and to show out the detail. I use a 10MP Poloroid digital camera and I use a mini-tripod to position the camera to where I want it to take the picture. I use the macro function on my camera to get as much up-close detail on the bar as possible. I use a photo editor to crop the picture. Most of the time it turns out fine (to me anyway) but sometimes the pics might be too bright and end up re-taking the pics of the bars. With the last 4 pics that I took, everything worked out and I was able to take those pics with only one attempt.

That is a good bar IMO. Usually sells for $45-$50 on ebay. I have had good luck finding that bar at a major coin show in Atlanta, GA earlier this year for $23.00.

Overall for 2014, it has been a very tough year for me as a silver art bar collector. From January 1 to September, it has been very tough and very frustrating in that there were a lot of "dry periods" in that I did not find and buy anything. The coin show circuit was, by far, the worst that I have seen in terms of finding old '70's silver art bars, As a matter of fact, most of the coin shows that I attended for all of 2014 ended up being a bust (meaning no silver art bars to be found).

With that being said, The AMA National Money Show on February 28, 2014 that was held on Atlanta, GA was my best coin show overall since I found some adult-themed and certain rare '70's silver art bars for $2 over spot. My overall best silver art bar purchase of 2014 was a 1973 Colonial Mint "Marilyn" bar that I paid $23 for at the ANA show in Atlanta. Even though I had several "Marilyn" bars in my collection, there was no way that I could turn down a deal of getting a high value bar like for only $2 over spot. That type of bar bar usually sells for between $45 - $60 on ebay. My second best purchase was a 1973 USSC "Women's Liberation" bar that I paid $23 for at the ANA coin show in Atlanta. That bar usually sells for between $45 to $50 on ebay. My 3rd best purchase was a 1974 Ceeco Mint Mother's Day Cameo silver art bar that I bought earlier this year from a dealer at a local flea market. I think I paid $21 for it but I will have to check my records. Even though I bought 3 times as many old silver art bars at the 2014 TSNS Fall coin show in Nov. 2014 than I did at the ANA show, all of the bars (except for one) that I bought at the 2014 TSNS Fall coin show were the common stuff.

If 2014 would have ended on Sept. 30, it would have been a nightmare year as a silver art bar collector but the last 3 months of this year helped a lot especially when spot silver was between $15 and $17.00. However, even with those last 3 months of strong silver art bar purchases, 2014 was still my worst year for me as a silver art bar collector in my opinion. Overall, I most of my silver art bar purchases for 2014 were common '70's silver art bars which have been very hard to find at the LCS's or coin shows through out most of this year. I did not attend as many coin shows in 2014 like I did for the last 2 years (averaging 20 coin shows per year before 2014) and the main reason for that was my heavy work schedule preventing me from attending some of the big coin shows that I wanted to go to. It will probably be more of the same for next few months of next year since I plan to work some overtime at work.

Unfortunately for 2015, it will be more of the same for hunting for the old bars and I do not see that reversing anytime soon especially when spot silver continues to go down. I have to lower my expectations for what I will find in 2015 because the '70's silver art bar market is very tight. Being persistent will be the key for me to find the silver art bars that I want in 2015. While I am always on the hunt for the rare bars on my wish list, my plan for 2015 will be to concentrate on buying more common-minted '70's silver art bars at the LCS and coin shows that I like since spot is much lower (and going lower) now than it was a year ago and those seem to be much harder to find this year.

2015 is off to a very good start for me in terms of silver art bars. The 4 pictures below are 4 of the '70's silver art bars that I bought during the 1st 10 days of 2015 and they are (from top picture to bottom picture):

1.) 1974 Music City Mint "Ryman Auditorium" - Paid $17.50 for it from a dealer at a local flea market.

2.) 1973 USSC "Freemasonry" - Paid $18.00 for it at a coin show

3.) 1972 Madison Mint "The General" (error version) - Paid $17.00 for it from a LCS

    4.) 1972 Mother-Lode Mint "The Prospectors" - Paid $17.00 for it from a LCS

I actually bought a total of 10 silver art bars to start 2015 on a good note but I decided to post these 4 bars because those were my 4 best silver bars of the 10 that I purchased in this first month of 2015. Of the 4 below 4 bars pics that I posted, the 1974 Music City Mint "Ryman Auditorium" is the best purchase that I made so far in 2015. The reason that I say this because only 100 of the Ryman Auditorium were minted and they are very hard to find anywhere and usually sell for very high premiums on ebay. I felt luck to buy it for only .999 generic silver premium.

I also want mention that the "Error version" of this Madison Mint "The General" silver art bar was one of the very first silver art bars that I bought in August 2008 when I started out as a silver art bar collector and I paid $17.00 for it at that time in August 2008 when spot was in the $13's. When spot got into the $40's 3 years later, I sold it for a profit to concentrate on buying much rarer bars at that time. When I saw this bar yesterday on a trip to one of the LCS's, I decided to buy it again since he only wanted $17.00 for it (spot was $16.52 on that day) and the common '70's silver art bars are much harder to find now than in 2008. That worked out well for me and I came full circle on this particular '70's silver art bar.

Here are the pictures of the 4 bars:

Nothing to do with the 70's but I do like silver bars of a certain motif.
