Brooklyn Woman On Ebola Monitoring List Drops Dead Bleeding From "Face, Mouth, Nose".
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 11/18/2014 22:02 -0500

"Just a week after Dr. Craig Spencer was declared 'Ebola-free', The Daily Mail reports a woman, who had arrived from Guinea 18 days ago (and was on the NYC Ebola monitoring list), dropped dead in a Brooklyn hair salon this afternoon. FDNY sent their Special Operations and Hazmat units but she was declared dead at the scene. Witnesses said she was bleeding from the "face, nose, mouth, everything."

[h=1]Ebola cases being hidden from public as government stockpiles survivors' blood before epidemic resurgence[/h]Sunday, November 30, 2014 by: J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, plans to begin stockpiling blood plasma from Ebola survivors, leading some observers to question whether the government is merely being prudent or is expecting a widening of the current outbreak inside the U.S.

As reported by Wired, the plasma comes from survivors who were "treated with a pathogen inactivation system that's never been used before in the United States."

Thus far, the news site noted, the U.S. has had remarkable success in treating Ebola infections -- indeed, in curing the disease -- and that is quite possibly due to the experimental plasma treatments.

The plasma is taken from survivors and comes "enriched in antibodies that could help to fight off the disease," Wired reported. But in addition, the plasma also has an ability to carry other diseases, such as malaria, that are extremely common in regions like West Africa, where the current Ebola outbreak originated.

[h=3]Expecting more infections?[/h]That said, "the new system will kill off any extra contaminants that may be lurking in this potentially [life]-saving serum," reports Wired, further noting:

It's the same one, Cerus Corporation's Intercept system, that will be used in a Gates Foundation-funded study of Ebola treatments in West Africa. The pathogen-killing molecule at the heart of the system is amotosalen, part of a class of three-ringed molecules called psoralens. They're the compounds in lime that cause what some doctors call "Mexican beer dermatitis...."

The report notes that European clinics have long used blood purification technology; and Intercept was first OK'ed some eight years ago. There are other techniques as well, but the Food and Drug Administration has been typically slow in approving the same technology for use in the United States. That is in part due to a lack of demand, Wired reported, but in recent days the agency did approve use of the technique to treat Ebola survivor plasma.

Meanwhile, The New York Times has reported that there is a dearth of quarantines of people coming into the country after visiting the Ebola-ravaged nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

Readers may recall that, just days after a New York doctor returned from Guinea and became the city's first Ebola case, the governors of both New York and New Jersey implemented a policy stating that they would begin quarantining all travelers who had been in contact with Ebola patients in the three African countries.

The move drew protests from around the country -- mostly from medical aid organizations but also from the Obama Administration, because the policies went further than federal policies. The White House complained that it would also penalize people who were working to help contain the virus and discourage others from offering to help.

[h=3]"Absence of quarantines is striking"[/h]That said, since nurse Kaci Hickox flew into the Newark, New Jersey, international airport Oct. 24 and was kept quarantined in a hospital for three days, "no one else has been caught up in the quarantine dragnet at the New York and New Jersey airports," the Times reported, adding:

The absence of quarantines is striking, not only because both governors emphatically defended the policy as a necessary precaution, but also because most people returning from Ebola-stricken countries arrive in the United States through Kennedy and Newark Liberty International Airports. Several aid organizations have American health care workers in West Africa, a handful of whom return every week. But New York and New Jersey officials say no one coming through the two airports since Ms. Hickox has reported direct contact with Ebola patients.

Obviously, that doesn't wash, though of course officials are justifying the absence of new quarantines.

"I don't think we can speculate on whether or not it's out of the ordinary," Monica Mahaffey, a spokeswoman for the New York State Health Department, told the Times.

Some have said one possible explanation for the dearth of quarantines is that either healthcare workers are delaying their return to the U.S. or they are purposely avoiding the two airports so they don't have to be quarantined for 21 days -- which, of course, could lead to new infections around the country.

Shipping Industry Modifies Contract Clauses for Ebola Risks

LONDON, Dec 16 (Reuters) – Some of the shipping industry’s biggest trade associations are modifying freight contracts to reduce commercial exposure for companies whose ships travel to countries affected by the Ebola outbreak and to protect crews from the deadly virus.

Uncertainty about the spread of Ebola is adding to legal and financial issues for those involved in shipping oil, cocoa and minerals from the region. Last month, Reuters reported that individual shipping lines and traders were starting to tweak contracts to protect themselves.

INTERTANKO, whose independent members own the majority of the world’s tanker fleet, has now introduced an Ebola clause including stipulations to find alternative ports if there is risk to the crew. Charterers will also be liable for any costs if a vessel is quarantined.

“We have seen clauses designed to deal for example with war risks where the drafter has simply crossed out ‘war’ and replaced it with ‘Ebola’ without much thought. That kind of approach can only lead to uncertainty and disputes,” INTERTANKO’s general counsel Michele White said.

BIMCO, the world’s largest global shipping association whose members include owners and brokers, is about to introduce a clause, but not one that will be Ebola specific.

“We consider the generic clause approach to be more pragmatic than issuing a ‘single issue’ clause,” Grant Hunter of BIMCO said.

“Charter party clauses should have a long shelf life … Ebola is quite likely to be one of a number of infectious or contagious diseases that will have an impact on international trade in the years to come.”

The worst outbreak of Ebola on record has killed 6,583 people in the three hardest-hit West African countries, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea, and infected 18,188 people, the World Health Organization says.

Michael Frodl, of U.S. based consultancy C-Level Global Risks, said Ebola screening at borders was not effective.

“We already foresee problems for a ship to find not only a port that will let the vessel pull in, but also then let a transfer … occur.”

Industry sources said the rise in deaths from Ebola in West Africa was likely to impact insurance premiums.

“Claims will be difficult to assess as loss adjusters may be prevented from visiting the claim scene owing to quarantine restrictions and concerns over the spread of disease,” Jonathan Moss of law firm DWF said. (Editing by Jane Merriman)

Though it’s taken a backseat to Ferguson and the Sony hacking story, the Ebola virus remains a threat in the United States.

According to Fox News Channel’s investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson, who recently reached out to the Centers for Disease Control, the agency is still very much involved in monitoring individuals for the deadly African-borne virus. The problem, says Attkisson, is that the CDC is covering up the numbers, presumably to minimize panic across the United States.

Attkinson says that following the appointment of Ebola Czar Ron Klain media involvement became almost non-existent because the government stopped releasing statistics and granting interviews in an effort to control the news.

The infectious disease experts I consulted were and remain very concerned about this because if it gets out of control in this country because we will not be able to deal with it.

A lot of the media coverage has gone from overtime to almost nothing since they appointed the Ebola Czar, and I don’t think that’s any accident – I think it’s a strategy.

There’s a good argument to be made that things were made safer… the reason we don’t have a worst case scenario today as far as we know is because there was media coverage… a public outcry… that totally changed the way the government was handling the Ebola crisis…

Once the Ebola Czar came in they quit putting out the head of the CDC… no more interviews. Someone decided, I think, when we give information they cover it. When we don’t give information it will fall off the stage and it largely did.

I called CDC not long ago and said how many active cases are being monitored in the United States of Ebola and they said 1,400.

I said, ‘where is that on your web site?’ They said ‘We’re not putting it on the web.’

I think there is an effort to control the message and to tamp it down. This is public information and we have the right to know and I think the media should not hype it, but cover it.

    http://youtu.be/IzeG40o9GVE

Based on Attkinson’s report one can conclude that the Ebola Czar, who had no medical experience whatsoever at the time of his appointment, was put into place not so much to help implement new medical procedures, but rather, to act as a Public Relations manager whose job it was to control the flow of information.

The strategy worked, it seems, because Ebola is now just a joke among the majority of the public.

But, as Attkinson notes, the virus is still poses a significant danger to the American public. To date the virus has claimed the lives of over 7,000 people in West Africa and it is still spreading fast according to a United Nations report that says over 18,000 have been infected so far.

There have been no additional confirmed cases of Ebola officially recorded in the United States since late October, but as Infowars‘ Paul Joseph Watson noted in a recent report, it is quite possible that another aspect of the Ebola Czar’s job is to keep any such infection under wraps. That may even mean that confirmed Ebola patients are being disappeared by the CDC.

A doctor has exclusively revealed to Infowars that health authorities are covering up Ebola cases in the United States and disappearing patients in an effort to avoid hysteria.

James Lawrenzi, DO, who has two clinics in Garden City and Archie, Missouri, appeared on the Alex Jones Show today to warn that the true scale of the situation was being deliberately downplayed. It is important to note that none of these potential Ebola outbreaks occurred at the clinics in which Lawrenzi works.

Lawrenzi said that shortly after the arrival of patient zero – Thomas Eric Duncan – in the United States, he was told by a doctor at Truman Lakewood Medical Center in Kansas City they had taken in a possible Ebola patient who had a high fever and was bleeding out of all his orifices having recently returned from West Africa.

The following day, Lawrenzi was told by the doctor that the patient had “disappeared” against medical advice, but that he wouldn’t have been able to leave on his own given his medical condition.

The day after the patient disappeared, a meeting was called for anyone who had contact with the patient. Doctors and other medical workers were told that the patient had malaria. Lawrenzi also revealed that drug reps from within the area warned over additional possible Ebola cases in the area.

Though such a scenario might sound far-fetched, an Executive Order recently updated by President Obama suggests that “disappearing” a patient suspected of a contagious disease is completely within the scope of the government if their infection has been deemed a national security threat.

Because no effective means of treating the virus has yet been released to the general public – and it’s questionable whether you want to get a vaccine if and when it does become available – the only strategy for ensuring that you don’t contract the virus is to focus on prevention.

As The Prepper’s Blueprint author Tess Pennington notes, we are on a need-to-know basis with Ebola (and any other potential contagion in the future) so it comes down to each individual to ensure their own safety. According to Pennington that includes a variety of strategies that need to be implemented or developed ahead of any major outbreak:

The CDC, unfortunately, has not provided the public with any sort of serious guidelines for preventing the spread of Ebola. One minute the public is told that Ebola isn’t airborne, but the next minute the government issues warnings that infectious material can, in fact, spread through water droplets in the air. The point is that the government is going to keep as much of this hidden from the public for as long as possible. Not just with Ebola, but any number of potential emergencies.

[h=1]Weaponized Ebola? ISIS Militants Said To Contract Deadly Virus[/h]
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 01/01/2015 15:15 -0500

Forget targeted US airstrikes, ISIS faces a new existential threat. Citing an unnamed source in a Mosul hospital, Iraq's official pro-government newspaper, al Sabaah, said Ebola arrived in Mosul from "terrorists" who came "from several countries" and Africa. Mashable further confirms, three outlets reported that Ebola showed up at a hospital in Mosul. For now, it's unclear if any disease experts or doctors in Mosul are even able to test for the Ebola virus; but it would mark the first time the virus had been detected in an area controlled by ISIS, a group that doesn't embrace science and modern medicine.

    As Mashable reports,

Reports that Islamic State militants in Mosul have contracted Ebola swirled though Iraqi media sources on Wednesday. World Health Organization officials said they haven't confirmed the cases, but the organization has reached out to offer assistance.

    ...

"We have no official notification from [the Iraqi government] that it is Ebola," Christy Feig, WHO's director of communications told Mashable.

Feig added that WHO is in the process of reaching out to government officials in Iraq to see if they need help investigating the cases, a task that could be a challenge, given the restrictions that would come with operating in ISIS-controlled territory.

It's unclear if any disease experts or doctors in Mosul are even able to test for the Ebola virus. A Kurdish official, who was convinced the cases are Ebola, told the Kurdish media outlet Xendan that the militants' symptoms were similar to those of the Ebola virus.

    ...

Citing an unnamed source in a Mosul hospital, Iraq's official pro-government newspaper, al Sabaah, said the disease arrived in Mosul from "terrorists" who came "from several countries" and Africa.

    ...

If the cases in Mosul turn out to be Ebola — a scenario that, at this point, seems highly unlikely — it would mark the first time the virus had been detected in an area controlled by ISIS, a group that doesn't embrace science and modern medicine.

Over the past few weeks, militants affiliated with ISIS have executed more than a dozen doctors in Mosul, according to Benjamin T. Decker, an intelligence analyst with the Levantine Group, a Middle East-based geopolitical risk and research consultancy.

The question now is - will Nobel Peace Prize winning President Obama send his humanitarian non-boots-on-the-ground military advisors to help?

    * * *

However, as The International Business Times reports, officials are denying the reports...

Iraq's Ministry of Health also denied that anyone in Mosul had contracted the Ebola virus, which broke out in March in West Africa.

Spokesman Ahmed Rudaini told news site Al-Maalomah that Mosul doesn't even have the technological capability to diagnose Ebola cases -- only Baghdad does. Therefore, he said, the reports that Ebola has infected anyone in Mosul are "incorrect" and "unfounded."

    But, perhaps most concerning,

In the event ISIS does have Ebola, the militants could use it as a biological terror technique, Forbes reported in October. Members could contract the virus on purpose and then go to foreign countries to infect others.

“The individual exposed to the Ebola virus would be the carrier,” national security professor Al Shimkus told Forbes. “In the context of terrorist activity, it doesn’t take much sophistication to go to that next step to use a human being as a carrier.”

Re: ALERT: Delivered By Airplane: Ebola Now Threatens 21 Million People In Major Metr

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. The absurd handling of this whole affair boggles the mind (if you believe it). We send our medical teams to Africa to play with the deadly Ebola, then ship them back to the four corners of the world to infect their own countries. They (PTB) are either setting up for a huge false flag event or they are really going forward to get us all killed. Interesting to see how this plays out. Personally, I think its just one more distraction to keep us in fear, but, could be wrong. Who knows these days what is real and what isn't.........

Starting to wonder if this whole Ebola thing was a test run to see how people would react before the real thing. Either that or they have such a tight lock down on information and news that they aren't even letting us know how bad things are.

RTD visits the very center of the Ebola crisis in West Africa. Following the outbreak in March, local Red Cross workers in Liberia are risking their lives on a daily basis in order to save others from the deadly disease. To prevent relatives and neighbors being infected, specially-trained burial teams are tasked with taking care of the dead in a safe and dignified way. As local communities are shaken to the core, it remains to be seen whether the efforts of those battling on the frontline will prove successful.

Army: No indication soldier deployed to West Africa found in Killeen died of Ebola
    Posted: Jan 13, 2015 1:21 PM EST

KILLEEN - Authorities are investigating and hazmat crews were called to the scene after the body of a soldier who just returned from deployment in West Africa was found Tuesday morning in Killeen.

The body was found in a home in the 3300 block of Cantabrian Dr. after police were called just after 8 a.m. Tuesday. A Fort Hood official on scene confirmed the body found was a soldier who had just returned from deployment in West Africa.

Responding officers found the body of the 24-year-old man lying face down in front of his home. The name of the man is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.

Killeen hazmat crews were called out as a precaution. According to Killeen PD spokesperson Carroll Smith, the body has been taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center to test for Ebola and those results should be in later on Tuesday.

Army spokesperson Col. Alayne Conway says the Army "doesn't have an indication the soldier died of Ebola," but they are running tests to make sure there is no threat to the community.

The soldier was in Liberia and redeployed in early January. He was home on "emergency leave for family, non-medical reasons" and was self-monitoring himself at home after having his temperature taken before leaving Liberia.

Killeen PD is working with Fort Hood to investigate....

    Ebola Virus Mutating

A lot of people are writing off the threat posed by the Ebola virus these days. I, for one, still remain skeptical. And with good reason. Tulip Mazumdar reported on the BBC website yesterday:

Scientists tracking the Ebola outbreak in Guinea say the virus has mutated.

Researchers at the Institut Pasteur in France, which first identified the outbreak last March, are investigating whether it could have become more contagious.

More than 22,000 people have been infected with Ebola and 8,795 have died in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Scientists are starting to analyse hundreds of blood samples from Ebola patients in Guinea.

They are tracking how the virus is changing and trying to establish whether it’s able to jump more easily from person to person
(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

Colin Freeman added on the website of The Telegraph (UK) yesterday:

On Thursday they warned that it was still too early in their research to say whether mutations in the virus thus far would lead to more lethal or infectious strains.

But Dr Anavaj Sakuntabhai, an Oxford-educated geneticist involved in the research, said that claims that the virus might move from being fluid-borne to airborne – and potentially much more infectious – were a near-scientific impossibility.

That theory was voiced last October by Anthony Banbury, the head of the United Nations mission on Ebola, who said it was a “nightmare scenario’ but that it “could not be ruled out”.

However, Mr Sakuntabhai told The Telegraph: “I don’t think is likely. For any pathogen (agent of disease) to change its mode of transmission would it means they would have to adapt to a completely different environment.” He likened it to a fish developing lungs or a human growing gills.
(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

“He likened it to a fish developing lungs..”

Something that happened 375 million years ago, as the Natural History Museum in London points out on their website:

A few species of fish were the first creatures to evolve lungs.

Arapaima, from the Amazon River, is an example of a fish that evolved a lung-like gas bladder to supplement the oxygen from its gills.

About 375 million years ago, land-living animals began to evolve from a species of lobe-finned fish. All animals with lungs share this common ancestor. This species is now extinct, but the living lungfish are close relatives.

Yep. As much as I’d like to, I wouldn’t be celebrating the demise of this bout of Ebola just yet.

A few days ago I received a strange pre recorded message from the GA public health, my daughter picked up the phone and listened to the message. It stated the "symptoms of Ebola- do you have them? "....a prank?
