12,000 is quite low at this stage in the game. I think buying a set of the 2017 puck seems at this point to be a good idea.

I agree with this. 12,000 is IMO very low mintage coming right out the gate even with the AP's having low premium pricing during the "pre-sale" phase. If demand for these ATB pucks is truly strong, then we should see much higher numbers coming right out of the gate on the bullion pucks. Maybe I am looking at this wrong but 2016 for the ATB bullion pucks is starting to resemble "2011" when high mintages for the 1st 2016 ATB bullion pucks with dropping mintages for the 3rd and 4th bullion pucks of 2016 then the lowest mintage for the final 2016 bullion puck with Fort Moultrie at 28,200.

The 2017 trend is IMO is starting to resemble "2012" with even lower mintages starting out. We will see how the mintages for the remaining 2017 bullion pucks play out.

If these low mintage numbers continue this year, I may need to sell some of my generic silver to make some room for the other ATBs!

Nothing has changed on the 2017 ATB bullion puck mintages as of 11:15 AM, Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Effigy is still at 20,300 and Frederick Douglas is still at 12,000. So far, those are very low mintage numbers at this point in time IMO.

And sold by APMEX, a reputable seller.

Just ordered my 5 today. Maybe I will sell some generic silver this year...

Yeah I agree with this since they are already on the Frederick Douglass puck. Effigy is the 3rd lowest mintage behind 2012 Volcano (at 20,000) and 2012 Denali (at 20,000).

Sounds like a plan, I remember when silver dumped into the 14s, there wasnt much to buy that had a low premium, except those silver buffaloes made by sunshine. I cant imagine anyone has much interest in owning them anyway.

I'm low on powder but I'm picking up two, one for collection and one to flip.

I'm guessing the final mintage will be under 30,000 and very well could be under 25.

IMO it's got 3 strikes against it.

    1) District of Columbia? Thats not a state, who lives there? Lol so no major "state enthusiasts" buying any.
    2) Like myself and others have mentioned not a fan of people on my puck.
    3) Not PC but a small segment of collectors may be turned off because Mr Douglas being .....black.

    Get em'.

Strike #3 might be the one that will keep mintages low on the Frederick Douglas bullion puck and the Frederick Douglas "P" puck IMO. The same reason that a lot of collectors will not buy the 2017 American Liberty 225th Anniversary 1-oz gold coin. However, "Strike # 3" against this puck could be the key variable that makes it a high premium puck in the distant future. It would not surprise me to see the Frederick bullion puck mintage finish under 20,000. If that happens, then that will make it the lowest bullion mintage among all ATB bullion pucks to date. However, that will not necessarily mean that the Frederick bullion puck will fetch the same premium that the Volcano puck is currently commanding. The theme and design will play a large part in demand for this particular one. We will have to see how this one turns out. 2017 could be a low mintage year for the 5 ATB pucks (bullion and "P" versions) as a set. I am watching the mintages on the bullion and "P" pucks very closely.

I got notification from APMEX yesterday and got 5. My dad and a bro each got 5+5 to get the airtites with the orders. I just got 5 more after the drop in silver today took them to 102.95. $2.49 over spot is about as good as it gets unless you get lucky with an auction. They don't seem to drop in premium as the years go by. I hope APMEX keeps doing this for each issue. It's probably going to be the cheapest way to accumulate them unless silver really takes a nose dive. Silver doctors have the effigy for a few bucks more and you don't get an airtite (1.25 in bulk is what I've paid in the past). I might "splurge" on a few, just for kicks. Once they sellout from the major suppliers, people don't seem to give them up so easily. Never know though. 30 years from now, you might find them in the silver scrap bucket.

So when the Douglass coin mintage surpasses the Effigy, we can concentrate on the systemic racism against the Iowa farmer and stop everyone from pulling the black racist card to pursue their own agenda. Hear that white lefty's? You ain't black and you ain't producing food. I was going to apologize for going off on a tangent and offending people, but I forgot this is GIM and we do things a little different here. Moderators are still the boss here and can delete/ban/request I delete. Onward, I will buy at least 10 of Missouri Ozarks and Minnesota Voyageurs, regardless of silver spot.

Should easily pass Effigy now but still guessing it doesn't break 30,000.

If Frederick Douglas coin mintage surpasses Effigy coin mintage then I will just move on and see what happens with the next 3 ATB pucks (bullion and "P" versions). If Effigy coin mintage ends up being greater than Frederick Douglas coin mintage, then I will just move on and see what happens with the next 3 ATB pucks (bullion and "P" versions). IMO 2017 is starting to shape-up like 2012 based on the mintages so far. The same goes with the 2017 "P" coins.

The next update or two from USMint.gov should determine if that ends up being the case. I do not think that it will come anywhere near 30,000 mintage. Given that large increase in sales of the Douglas coin in the latest update, I am making a WAG that the final Douglas mintage will be between 21,500 - 23,000.

Not an ATB fanatic, but have picked up a couple sets from the inaugural edition and a few others here and there that have designs that I like. My WAG is that collectors will get a couple of both the bullion and "P" issues regardless. Another WAG is that silver stackers and those with no commitment to the series are getting aggravated and confused by the roller coaster mintages that vary from 22,000 to 127,000 depending on the issue. I'm guessing that some of these stackers have moved on to something else with a lower premium and less drama.

Might grab a couple of the Effigy Mounds, and am very interested in the WI & MI issues in 2018. Where do you folks find reliable mintages on these coins and is it best to buy on "presale" or wait for competition amongst reliable dealers. Thank you-P.

Buying during "presale" seems the best way to get them at the lowest premium. I go to the following website (USMint.gov) to get the lastest mintages on the ATB "P" pucks and Bullion pucks:

    https://www.usmint.gov/about/about?PageNum=1&StartRow=1&i=1

Once you go to that above link, then click on the "Production & Sales Figures" link then go to either "Numismatic Products: Cumulative Sales" (for ATB "P" puck mintages) or "Bullion: Sales/Mintage" (for ATB bullion mintages).

    Silver scrap bucket?

If you can buy them for spot +2.50, you aren't in a bad position to start.

That sounds about right for the final tally which makes it a no brainer purchase as well as the Efffigy. Five years from now when thousands of people are trying to put the atb set together for themselves or family members these early 17's are going to pay off nicely.

if you part them out in singles for the folks who just want to have one nice set of a particular year, they wont really mind if they pay an extra premium of $50 for it, if it happens to be a bit rare.

I had a chance to buy an ATB Effigy Bullion puck for $100 at a coin show today but I was low on FRNs after spending a lot of money on vintage silver art bars today and yesterday. Oh well.......I am not complaining. 2 Effigy pucks (1 bullion and 1 "P") is good enough for me. BTW my ATB Frederick Douglas Bullion coin that I ordered from Apmex arrived in the mail today and I am happy with it.

Ya, the APMEX Douglass pucks in airtites were very clean and had a plastic wrap around the airtites. Quite fast and quite professional. Of course you are buying the silver and potential collectible. The extra effort to prevent scratches does not hurt. Awesome foam cushions also protected the coins. I like the trademark on their box..."Investments You Hold". My dad will be amazed about his first puck purchase, I think. Wish it would have been MN and not some black dude on the coin.

Was just an opinion of preference of what I'd rather see on the coin's reverse for my dad's first puck purchases. I don't really consider myself a bigot.
