What's with the Fort Moultrie puck not getting much love? It's seems to have all the right ingredients, South Carolina, military theme, decent design and a mintage of only 27,900 which currently ranks it #9 of #37 (including Fred) ..........yet I go to Provident's website and at $94.55 it's $5 cheaper than the 2016 Shawnee which has almost 4x the mintage.

I think I'm gonna place an order.

Very strange indeed. It does not make sense to me at all. It might be a "sleeper" bullion puck like Sand Dunes is (was?).

Kinda nice to see cheap pucks out there again. They are not $90 yet, but the premium is pretty reasonable when they promote a price, as long as you are not filling holes to complete a collection.

So if Effigy breaks 22,000 it goes from #3 to #5. Fred may fall out of the to #10 at this rate.

Provident no longer has the Effigy listed for sale on their site. Looks like 3rd place may hold ....[fingers crossed]

APMEX only has 7. I don't even know if I have 5 or 10 or 15 in my short term purchase bin. I'm done. I'll sell you one for $x over spot when I'm retired and need the money to pay property taxes.

It appeared that they got some more of the effigy bullion pucks in stock. It currently shows they have 136 of them in stock.

I don't think the #3 spot will hold for Effigy now, #5 may be it's best hope. Looks like Fred might be playing the race card and staking his claim to the #3 spot.

It is not clear to me how long the bullion pucks will stay available. If they let it stretch out over the whole year then it doesn't seem like either one will stay below 22,000.

Apmex started its presale of the Ozark Riverways bullion puck. Current check/wire price range between $97.55 and $102.55 depending on how many you buy. With that said, I will also state that the mintages for Effigy (21,500 so far) and Frederick (20,000 so far) are not final yet. We will see. Design-wise, I think that the upcoming Ozark puck will be the best puck design of 2017 imo.

Agreed, the Ozark design should be popular. I'm guessing It'll be the high mintage of 2017 landing in the 35-45 range when it's all done.
Now that Ozark is for sale hopefully this will slow the numbers on Effigy and Fred. These 2017 pucks may be our last ones to gamble on for awhile because the 2018's have such nice designs I could see six figure mintages on many of them.

    +1

What is interesting is that I see the price of Fred moving while Effigy stays low. Apmex has the Effigy for as low as $100.90 right now, while Fred is going for $121.90

    Go figure :don't know:

It's disappointing guys but it's not a total loss. Hopefully the mint cranked out these 2700 pucks as the grand finale. If the numbers stand Effigy will rank a respectable #7 (counting Fred's 20,000) and should carry a nice premium. I think most of us bought during the dip and got them for around $95 so we should see a nice return.

If the mint cranks out another 1000 we drop to #9 ......yikes.

More mintage bad news for the Effigy Bullion holders based on latest USMint.gov bullion sales page....................

    Effigy = 26,100

    Frederick Douglas = 20,000

EDIT: There are some online dealers selling Frederick Douglass bullion for higher premiums than the Effigy.

Low mintage was the only thing that Effigy coin had going for it. Hands down the ugliest ATB yet in my opinion. Ozark seems like one to look forward to, design wise.

I agree that the Ozark Riverways puck will be the puck of 2017 but will probably have the highest mintage of all of the 2017 bullion pucks. My prediction of the 2017 bullion puck mintage being close to the 2012 bullion puck mintages was blown out of the water during this week.

I didn't think Effigy was THAT bad. My vote for least desirable puck design wise is the Sand Dunes.

Sand Dunes, or Hot Springs for second . Effigy just looks like a kids drawing or something. Had they let a child design that one, it would have improved the popularity for sure.

So far, it seems pricing on these ATB's is all related to likeability. It's almost like mintages don't matter so much anymore. Silver Eagles are minted by the millions, and people pay high premiums, and scarf them up like crazy. Proof commemoratives are more popular than the UNC's. You look at the old commems from the 30's and such, it's all about mintages back then. Now people pay premiums for the symbols, or even the color of the background of slabbed coins.

I scratch my head over the ASE worship as well. The same speculators/collectors that scoff at ATB's with a 30,000 mintage will pay the same price for 5 ASE's with a 40 million mintage.

I'm gambling that once the herd realizes they've been hoodwinked into paying fat premiums for a WHOLE lot of junk (90's sports cards) that a quality low mintage series like ATB will rise in popularity.

Bizarre to me that it hasn't happened already. They are radically different from anything else the mint has ever made. They are imposing and impressive.

The only nail in the coffin the series has going for it is that I'm all in.:bombs 9:

The USMint appears to be very good at messing up a potentially good thing. For example, when you have an $hitty ATB design ($hitty to most collectors but not to me) such as the effigy, that makes the collector/speculator money flee to the same boring and high 40 million mintage SAE. That is just a WAG on my part. For me personally, I like the effigy design just enough to buy one bullion version and one "P" version because I like animal crackers in my silver.

I wonder what the USMint's "batting average" is now. It must be low based on some negative comments on this years ATB's and other products that have came out so far.

I will be honest with everyone here regarding the ATB's. I got in late to this series (started in 2015) but I do not plan to collect the whole series because I do not like every coin in this series and I am not going to even try to attempt to collect them all. I like certain ATB pucks and will keep them in my personal collection. However, I will continue to bottom fish and buy any duplicate ATB bullion and "P" versions for the sole purpose to flip on ebay for a profit. I have been successful doing it this way and that I made a lot of FRN profit over the last 10 months as an ebay seller in my ebay sideline business. Based on my personal experience of buying them from various dealers, they treat a lot of these as bullion and will sell them that way. For example, last year at an out-of-town coin show that I attended, there was one dealer there selling a Denalli bullion puck for only $95 and another dealer selling a Perry's Victory "P" puck for only $105. On the other end of the spectrum, some dealers will use APMEX as an example to price their ATB pucks at "retail" (i.e. collector premium) prices but they do not move at those prices even after a year after putting them on sale.

As for this year's ATB pucks, I honestly do not know how well the 2017 ATBs (bullion and "P" versions) will do in terms of future premium appreciation. We will have to see a few years from now how they do. In my opinion, the Ozark design is the best one of the 2017 pucks but it is hard to predict how this and the remaining 2017 pucks will do. What the spot price of silver will be also be a factor but how important of a factor will it be if demand does not pick up on these. That is hard to predict. I buy these as a collector first and I will occasionally resell on ebay some duplicate ones (especially 2012 pucks) that I find during my various travels if I can find them for .999 generic silver premiums. That is the only way that I can profit on these.

FWIW the 2016 Fort Moultrie ATB bullion puck mintage is now at 31,700.

There is money to be made buying and selling bullion ATBs, Art. The key is to buy them early, before a premium develops. Some have not and some have - and some may never. If you ever see a dealer selling a Denali puck in decent condition for $95, buy it. I'd be happy to turn around and pay you $125 for it.

WTF?? How the hell did this happen, it was 27,900 last week. So is the mint just going to crank out thousands more of older pucks?

Yep. I did buy it for $95 from that coin show that I attended and I sold it on ebay for $210.00 in mid-November 2016. After paying pay and ebay fees and USPS shipping, I made just over $81 in net profit on the deal. I also bought the Perry's Victory "P" coin from a different dealer from that same show for $105 and I sold that on ebay for $188.00 in early November 2016. After ebay and paypal fees and USPS shipping costs, I made a net profit of just over $51 on that deal.
