    As I am No BS. 6' 214lbs. Former Beer Drinker. No exercise for over a Year and a Half.     ➤ CHICK PEA FALAFEL RECIPE
    * 1 can Organic Chickpeas, rinsed, blended
    * 1/2 Shredded Zucchini (any other vegetables you’d like to add, shredded)
    * Diced Onion (based on preference)
    * 15g Flax Meal (“flax egg”)

    Carb Backloading: Ketosis Carb Loading Strategy - Thomas DeLauer

    Insulin

    Your insulin sensitivity in muscle and fat cells is higher in the morning than in the evening, which means that your muscle and fat cells will be more receptive the glucose sugars earlier in the day

    This is good in the case of muscle as more glucose absorbed into the muscles = better performance in the gym), and bad in the case of fat as more glucose absorbed into the fat cells = more fat storage (1,2)

    Idea Behind Backloading

    The idea is that you use insulin to your advantage by not eating carbs when your body is most able to store them as fat (early in the day) - instead, you eat carbs when your body is most likely to store them as glycogen in the muscles (later in the day, after working out)

    The post-workout point is important: you use weightlifting later in the day to deplete glycogen stores and increase insulin sensitivity in the muscle cells, but not the fat cells, so when you then start eating carbs, your body preferentially shuttles them into the muscles, not fat cells

    The theory is that insulin sensitivity will be increased in your muscle cells, but will remain at a lower sensitivity in your fat cells

    As a result, when you start eating carbs, they will instantly be utilized by your muscles, rather than being stored as fat (1,2)

    Good in theory, but you’re not going to see a huge difference in insulin sensitivity if you’re already carb depleted
    Additional Benefits of Carb Backloading

    Carbs help transport tryptophan across the blood brain barrier, which is an amino acid that gets converted to the neurotransmitter serotonin

    Serotonin gets converted to melatonin in the pineal gland and melatonin is responsible for regulating your sleep and wake cycle (5,6)

    Afternoon/Night

    Backloading is most preferable for those who allocate their workouts towards the latter end of the day - will reap the benefits of insulin sensitive muscles (carb backloading still encourages a meal in the morning, usually protein accompanied with healthy fats)

    If you’re following a keto diet, allocating your carbs to this period could workout for you if you keep it within the respective range of acceptable carbs on keto
    Morning

    For those who workout during the morning, fasted training is more preferable

    Exercising in a fasted state increases both lipolysis (breaking down of fat cells for energy) and fat oxidation rates (the burning of this energy by cells)

    So when you exercise with your insulin at a baseline level (which they are upon waking), your body is able to both mobilize and burn more fat during your workouts than when insulin levels are elevated (4)

    Glycogen

    An average person stores enough glycogen to last for 12 to 14 hours or over 2 hours with sustained moderate intensity.

    The body stores approximately 450-550 grams of glycogen within the muscle and liver for use during exercise (3)

    It seems to be trendy to be down on humanity at the moment: we're apparently overweight, easily distracted, depressed and malnourished. Millenials are ruining anything and the current generation is the worst yet...

    I want to put forward a counter-argument: that we are the best we have ever been and that we're only going to get better. This video explains why I think there are more genuine polymaths today than every before, why society is better than it ever has been, why we are at our physical peaks (thus far).

    Ronnie Coleman is one of the most legendary bodybuilders of all time. He is known as setting the impossible new standard for what a mass monster should look like and won eight Mr. Olympia titles over his entire career (a world record tied only with Lee Haney). But Ronnie Coleman wasn't born a Mr. Olympia champion - he struggled and learned how to improve - landing low placings until he unlocked his true potential. Part of these struggles involved a moment where he thought he would stop competing. The Arnold Classic changed all of that and led him on a path to the champion we know and love today.

    In this installment of Arnold Classic Moments, Ronnie Coleman himself recounts a serious injury right before the Mr. Olympia... and the recovery that lasted months right up to the Arnold Classic. Landing low at competitions in between, such as the Iron Man competition, Ronnie believed that it was time for him to give up bodybuilding.     So as you guys have been mentioning in the comments, there haven't been many training video's and here's the reason why.
    Motivation to do something comes from a reason why.. the reason I make videos and have been able to consistently for so long is because I am obsessed with wanting to help people be their best.
    My reason for lifting weights and building my body is always changing and so it should be but with the current injury status it's been making it harder to being able to have that "thing", it's made it so difficult to train at my best let alone document it for you guy and girls.

    What's your why and what do you want to achieve for 2018?

    We're in the TIU kitchen at http://ToneItUp.com/?p=303074 and I'm sharing my go-to smoothie ~ Morning Mocha! It has espresso and it's chocolatey...because those are my faves ;)

    My trick is throwing in frozen cauliflower because it makes the texture so creamy and delicious! And I use our plant-based, non-GMO Tone It Up Protein. You can pick it up at Target so it's super convenient!

    Try the recipe below!

    Morning Mocha Smoothie
    2 scoops Chocolate Tone It Up Protein (from Target!)
    1 cup frozen cauliflower rice
    1 handful of Ice
    2 shots of espresso
    2 Tbsp. espresso beans
    2 cups unsweetened almond milk
    1 Tbsp. chocolate covered espresso beans on the top

    Blend all ingredients except chocolate covered espresso beans. Top with chocolate covered espresso beans and enjoy!
