400 Year old Musket Balls - How deadly were they?
    TAOFLEDERMAUS

    Published on Jun 2, 2017
Simon from England offered to send us some VERY old musket balls he found while metal detecting. He sent 12 ga. sized balls from his large collection. From the location these were found, the caliber, and the amount of lead oxide covering the lead, it is estimated these are nearly 400 years old. There is a good chance these were used during the English Civil War. These balls did not look like they were EVER shot and may have dropped on the battlefield.

Music info, as always, it credited in the video.

Aguila MINISHELL Tiny Shotgun Slugs - Ballistic Testing (correction)
    TAOFLEDERMAUS

    Published on May 31, 2017
I was SO wrong in the earlier video I posted regarding the price of these slugs, that I decided to make corrections and upload it again. (otherwise I would be doomed to correcting myself in the comment section!)
Danny brought along some of his Aguila Minishells for us to test out. These cost a hair more than the "Walmart foster slugs, but you can fit a lot more into your tube magazine. They are a lighter, slower slug and you lose almost HALF of the muzzle energy. Is the sacrifice in performance worth it?

    Shooting the Remington 870 Express Tac-14 12 Gauge “Firearm” - Gunblast.com
    Gunblastdotcom

    Published on Jun 3, 2017
    FOR MORE INFO: http://www.gunblast.com/Remington-Tac...

    Jeff Quinn ( http://www.gunblast.com ) tests the Remington 870 Express Tac-14 12 Gauge “Firearm”.

I tested the TAC-14 using several types of 12-gauge ammunition, from light target loads to heavy magnum buckshot loads, as well as the aforementioned Broadhead and Foster-type slugs. Every shell fed from the magazine smoothly, fired without fail, and ejected flawlessly. The TAC-14 is as reliable as an 870, because it is an 870. Perfect. Since I know the question will be asked, no, the TAC-14 does not function with the short Aguila Mini-Shells, nor was it intended to do so. However, any 2 ¾ or 3 inch 12-gauge shotgun shell will work in the Tac-14. Recoil was about what would be expected from a sub-six-pound 12-gauge, but the shape of the grip and forearm makes the weapon easy to handle. Recoil with three-inch magnum loads can be heavy, but again, for an experienced shooter, it is not a problem to control. A novice would be better-served to begin with a different weapon. However, when a lot of power is needed in a relatively compact package, the TAC-14 is hard to beat. As of the date of this review, the suggested retail price of the Remington TAC-14 is $443.05 US. The Remington TAC-14 has a Limited Lifetime Warranty and is made in the USA.

Check out the TAC-14 and other Remington products at

Homemade German Steel Slugs - Tumbling Terror!
    TAOFLEDERMAUS

    Published on Jun 5, 2017
A German viewer named Robin sent us some slug that he made. These are made out of steel and some had a cavity in the back, while a couple were just solid. It was interesting to see how these flew though the air.

Warning! Lots of horrific stereotyping in this video. (based on MY distorted perception of late 20th century Germany)

    Handmade Kalashnikov AK Rifles
    TFB TV

    Published on Jun 7, 2017
In our third episode about the handmade small arms from the gunsmiths of Darra Adam Khel in the FATA region of northwestern Pakistan, Miles takes a look at some of the Kalashnikov variants produced by these talented craftsmen. With the Kalashnikovs (AK-47, AKM, AK-74 etc.) some of the copying begins to show because of the more modern production techniques that stamping involves. However even with this challenge, villagers are able to put together almost exact copies of these rifles.

    Banshee Moon

    Published on Jun 7, 2017
50 year old youtube star, Farm Girl and Exoman shoot the .50 caliber Smith and Wesson and the Glock 19. It is ridiculous how large the ammunition is for the S&W 500. They are almost as big as the .22 revolver! It's a good thing that the large gun has soft comfortable grip for the shock and recoil.

WHY we don't use a Break-Action Shotgun -You probably didn't think of this
    TAOFLEDERMAUS

    Published on Jun 7, 2017
We attempted to shoot some Russian slugs called "Bulava" in this video. We decided to shoot them through a break-action shotgun- also made in Russia. We had nothing but problems with this combination. Break-action shotguns are built with economy in mind and are not made for slug shooting. To improve their performance for skeet and bird shooting - they come with a permanent, tapered barrel. If they made them cylinder-bored, they'd be LOUSY for shooting bird shot. (most-common use) It makes no sense to buy a break-action that we'd have to chop off the end of barrel, when we have shotguns that have threaded chokes to give us the flexibility we need. When we have rounds too LONG to load normally, we just remove the barrel which takes about 20 seconds. It's not a problem.

CEREAL Shot from a Shotgun - Is it deadly?
    TAOFLEDERMAUS

    Published on Jun 13, 2017
Chances are you heard about the guy that shot his buddy with a shotgun shell full of rice krispies cereal. I have a feeling it was just two knuckleheads messing around but it resulted in the shooter getting arrested. Just because you think it would be harmless to shoot someone with a round full of cereal, marshmallows, etc. it is a horrible idea still. The cereal really did nothing, but the plastic wadding can be quite dangerous, even at these LOW velocities.

You have seen them everywhere. I mean Fidget spinners are even in our back-water grocery store. ADD and ADHD are real things, but then you grow up, and learn to cope. The hand spinner is being used as an EDC item, just look at instagram. Adults wasting their time that could have otherwise been productively used. It's a shame. We just have one question, will a fidget toy be enough to set off the incendiary on the .50 BMG?

    Giving away a 50!?

    WWSD - VLOG Status Update 1 - Yesterday's DMR is today's Rifleman
    InRangeTV

    Published on Jun 17, 2017
The WWSD project is a work in progress. We've made great success towards our end goals but still are experimenting with specifics, as well as readdressing the 18" rifle's role entirely.

We discuss what has gone right, what is in the middle, and where we plan to go with the WWSD project going forward.

This is a long term project for InRangeTV and we hope you'll enjoy coming along for the ride!

Spot-Welder Shotgun Slugs - Electrifying Results!
    TAOFLEDERMAUS

    Published on Jun 18, 2017
I get a lot of people who offer to send me stuff. They contact us on Facebook, by email, and the clunky YouTube private messages. I think a lot of people just mess with us--- 95% of the time they never send us stuff so after a few weeks, I delete their emails, PM's and other messages. I've spent hours trying to find out who sent these slugs to me and just can't find them- there was no name at all on or in the package. These are pure copper electrodes and are used for spot welding. They certainly look like they'd make decent shotgun slugs. The outside diameters were just a bit small, but that is ALWAYS better than having too-large of a diameter!
--- Update!--- Sunshine from Ontario Canada contacted me and he is the person who sent these. Thank you!!

Speer .45 Auto 230 gr Gold Dot gel test and review
    TFB TV

    Published on Jun 19, 2017
Take a look at our test of Speer's .45 Auto 230 Gold Dot. The Gold Dot is not technically a bonded bullet, but rather a plated one. Nevertheless, it tends to perform like bonded bullets and the plated construction is essentially the same as a bonded bullet in that core and "jacket" are chemically bonded to each other, resulting in high weight retention. This bullet lives up to its reputation as one of the very best defense loads by expanding well and penetrating perfectly in both bare gel and when fired through heavy clothing. The moderate velocity of approximately 830 fps proved adequate to initiate expansion and the bullet was able to perform properly even when fired through four layers of denim. The IWBA standard of four layers of denim is a more difficult protocol to pass than the more realistic FBI heavy clothing standard. The IWBA heavy clothing test is not intended to simulate real world clothing, but rather to present a worst case scenario of many, closely packed, dense fibers which can clog the cavity of some hollow point ammunition, preventing expansion. Having performed well even in this worst case scenario, the Gold Dot proves to be an outstanding choice for personal defense and the more rounded nose tends to feed better in unmodified 1911A1 pistols than some other hollow point designs. Not only was the bullet able to expand adequately in adverse conditions, it was also able to penetrate to an appropriate depth. The variation in penetration depth was also extremely consistent, with only a small difference between bare gel and heavy clothing. Retained weight was also 100% for every bullet and expansion measurements varied little from bullet to bullet. This highly consistent performance indicates excellent quality and speaks to superior performance across a range of other conditions not evaluated in this test.
