Budget Friendly and Awesome - Swedish Army Mess Kit with Trangia Stove – Review
    TheOutdoorGearReview

    Published on Sep 26, 2017
Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR

Today Luke is reviewing the Swedish Army Mess Kit with Trangia Stove and he is going to tell you how to purchase it for a much lower price than what you will find it for in the USA.

    By the way, it's AWESOME!

    Link : https://www.varusteleka.com/en/produc...

    Price : $22.99

    Weight :

    What is Included:
    · Swedish Issue Trangia Burner - Free from any defects
    · Swedish SPRIT 35 Bottle for fueling your Trangia Burner
    · Swedish Army Trangia Burner Windscreen
    · Reproduction Swedish Mess Kit

Why this is an excellent buy :
These cook sets are absolutely awesome because they are so versatile. You can run the alcohol stove or you can use this as a wood burning system. Here in the US, these cooksets are expensive and are typically found on ebay for well over $100. Even outside of the US, these are commonly sold for over $30 but with $25 shipping charges.

A combination of an aluminium mess tin and an alcohol stove. Perhaps not a state of the art plasma-cooker from outer space, but virtually indestructible, affordable and very effective. The mess tin is new production, made by Mil-Tec, rest is Swedish army surplus.

The small accessories pack into the mess tin and the holder slides over it. The cooking process is very simple and the system is quick to set up:

Take the mess tin out of the holder
Inside the holder there are two metal wire thingies. Open these so that when you put the mess tin back into the holder, the tin won't go all the way down. Don't put the tin in just yet.
Take the burner cup out of the mess tin, unscrew the cap, pour in some fuel, place it on the bottom of the holder (under the wire thingies) and light it by holding a burning match over it.
Put whatever you want to cook into the mess tin and slide it into the holder over the burner cup. The wire thingies should hold the mess tin over the burner.
If the instructions seem hard to understand, don't worry - when you get the product, you'll be able to figure all this by yourself. If not, you should not have been allowed to play with fire to begin with.

    Further instructions:

This is an alcohol cooker. Few countries sell pure alcohol for normal people, but there are lots of denaturated sorts made exactly for this use. We recommend either Marinol or Sinol. Marinol has a more neutral odor, but Sinol is available from us.
NO FUEL IS INCLUDED - the small, EMPTY plastic bottle is for your convenience as normally fuel is sold in unwieldly big containers. It's up to you to fill it.
The burner cup and fuel bottle are meant to be transported inside the mess tin. It's a good idea to put them into a small resealable plastic bag before putting them into the tin, as denaturated alcohol will make your food taste real bad, and it's a nuisance to get it off.
Always use the lid when cooking things. Makes stuff cook much faster and keeps you from looking like a dolt.
The wire handle has a small notch on the top to facilitate hanging the mess kit over a campfire, for example.

    1. Fill your Trangia burner with alcohol from the alcohol flask that comes with this set. For best results we recommend using denatured alcohol.
    2. Adjust the metal support posts in the windscreen to support your mess kit.
    3. Light your Trangia burner.
    4. Place windscreen over your Trangia burner.
    5. Mix your meal in your mess kit, and slide it into the windscreen.
    6. Prepare to enjoy your hot freshly cooked camp meal.
    7. Make sure your Trangia burner is cool before putting cap on to protect the rubber o-ring.

The windscreen has the three crowns which means that this is legit Swedish military
    ….
In a pinch you can use these stoves with a wood fire but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you absolutely have to. High heat remove the finish

So Close but.....Hydroblu Clear Flow Water Bottle and Filter Combo - Review
    TheOutdoorGearReview

Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR

Today Luke and Susan are reviewing the Hydroblu Clear Flow Water Bottle and Filter Combo. Has it earned our seal of approval?
    Find out now!

Link Official Web Site : http://hydroblu.com/index.php/product...
    Link : https://www.amazon.com/Clear-Flow-Wat...
    Price : $21.95
    Weight when Empty :
    Easy to collect water
    Easy to clean

    Pros :
Easy to use; couldn’t be any easier.
No issues even when drinking from questionable water sources. We’ve carried these bottles all around the state of Colorado as well as NC; have drank from rivers, lakes, ditches and creeks without getting sick.
Pulling water through the bit valve isn’t all that hard. It does take some sucking power but it isn’t overly hard. I’ve certainly used filter which are much harder.
Fits easily in the side pockets of backpacks.
    Lightweight when empty

    Cons :
There was a plastic taste with the initial draws but it dissipated after use.
Had some issues with leaking unless the lid was screwed on exceedingly tight. This seems to be a common issue which I have seen mentioned with other online reviews.
you can only fill the water bottle about 75% because the filter decreases the total space.
I mentioned that it is easy to get water from the straw for us but I have seen countless reviews which stated the opposite.
While we haven’t had any issues with the water filter coming detached from the straw it does seem like an area of weakness. I would like to see the filter screw into the straw
There seems to be some confusion at Hydroblu on how much water that these bottles can filter. Their web site states 1,500, the amazon listing states 1,000.

    Who is it for :
Backpackers, hikers, preppers, emergency use, mission and aid workers and so on.
    Anyone who needs clean water.

    Advice to the Company :
Pay attention to the details – is this a 1500 liter or 1000 liter filter?
Quality control is very, very important. There are a lot of issues which we have read about online. Leaks, filters coming loose from the straw, etc.
The reviews on the web site seem to be a combination of positive reviews taken from amazon and those which might be completely fake. Some of the reviews are duplicates of each other but with different names being used.

It has become increasingly clear to me over the last couple of months that there are a lot of people who are seeking out inexpensive shelter options which offer full protection and are of good quality. A shelter system for backpacking, camping, bugging out and even bushcraft doesn’t have to be expensive and this is one of those options.

    More to come!

    ....

    Video Links :

This is one of those options

    Tarp Video : https://youtu.be/HhqjJQnK3eQ

Should easily be able to put it together for around $120 give or take.

Total weight of the system minus guy lines and stakes will be around 4lbs

This system provides full bug protection and full weather protection at a decent cost. With the proper knowledge on tarp setups, you can enjoy the full benefits of a tent setup but with the variety and versatility of a tarp.

    Small Form factor.

The Improved Bed Net System (IBNS) was originally designed to fit securely onto a military cot with webbing and side release buckles on all four corners. After initial fielding, we were informed that Marines liked the product so much that they were deploying it in the field as well. In response, we ruggedized the design, creating the capability to add a rainfly. We have since delivered hundreds of thousands on contract. After yet another round of improvements, we are proud to re-introduce the Burrow™ IBNS with enhanced capability, more user friendly features, and improved parts and fittings.

The Burrow’s instant deployment and cot compatibility make it an efficient, fast-access shelter to protect users from insects and a great shelter for medical patients in the field. It is EPA registered and has Permethrin bonded to the material for insect repellency. The Burrow is supported by a strong and ultra-light .134” diameter pultruded fiberglass rod which winds through the shelter, expanding it to its given shape. When the rolled up Burrow’s cinch strap is removed, the shelter is released and snaps into shape automatically. No assembly or set-up is required.

Can be turned into a tent with some rather pricey additional purchases.
    ……..

    British Military Basha Tarp :

MRE Mountain ~ Another Great Source for MREs and International Rations!

    Visit MRE Mountain at www.mremountain.com

And here's their store on eBay (which is still open as of October 2017): http://stores.ebay.com/mremountain/

    Visit gschultz9 on Facebook: www.facebook.com/gschultz9

So, in the time between when I filmed this video and when it went live, MRE Mountain changed up how they do business a bit. You can now order directly from the website (though the eBay store is still open for business as of October 2017).

MRE Mountain is yet another resource for people looking to purchase MREs, other U.S. rations and all kinds of cool international rations. Check out the website to see their current selection. I ordered an MRE from them and it arrived very quickly. I was very satisfied with their service and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others (thus this video!).

The 1967 U.S. Army training film, Individual Camouflage (TF 5-3881), produced by the Army Pictorial Center, is a training video used to teach the factors of recognition and basic techniques of camouflaging for hiding, blending, and moving with near invisibility. The film begins by identifying the six “Factors of Recognition” (02:07): movement, position, shape, shadow, texture, and color. Camouflage allows for the manipulation of these factors to create near invisibility. One key device used for camouflage is dispersion (05:48), or the breaking up of patterns. The film discusses the importance of using natural terrain for concealment whenever possible, staying low to the ground and avoiding disturbing the terrain. With this knowledge, a soldier can plan a route based on the best cover and move across open areas undetected (07:53). While completely hiding is useful (09:30), blending is the most useful technique with camouflage, regardless of the environment or terrain. Adding camouflage to uniforms and helmets (10:00) is critical, and the film provides directions on how to create a helmet cover from scratch when an army-issued cover isn’t available (11:00). Properly applied paint sticks camouflage the hands and face (12:45) by toning down features of the face and blending color. Equipment should also be camouflaged (15:36) with tape, paint, or other materials; disciplined precautions, such as keeping a metal mess kit from reflecting sunlight, is another way to ensure a soldier’s invisibility. The final preparation, according to the film, is the informed and constant awareness of the need for camouflage, factoring in both ground and aerial enemy perspectives (aerial photography is used to identify tracks on the ground or where trees or foliage has been cut down). The training film notes that the same rules for daytime camouflage apply during nighttime as well, then it concludes with a quick recap of the factors and techniques that must be understood to successfully use camouflage.

Product Review: CyberPower GX1325U True Sine Wave Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
    uxwbill

    Published on Oct 9, 2017
Here's a very in-depth and honest look at CyberPower Systems' GX1325U sine wave uninterruptible power supply. It's the model to buy if you need such a thing, but there isn't much competition.

    The good:
    1. Yes, it really has a true sine wave output. And that output *stays* clean even under heavy, highly inductive loads. I didn't expect it to do nearly as well as it did!
    2. It passed my brutal "furnace fan" test and kept a Power Macintosh G5's very picky power supply happy.
    3. It has a serial port, though presumably only for simple signaling.
    4. You can use it to provide a power backup for almost anything that plugs into an outlet, so long as you don't exceed the ratings.
    5. Pricing is very competitive with other UPSes having only a "stepped" sine wave output.
    6. It's basically the only UPS having a true sine wave output at this price point.
    7. The alarm beeper can be silenced, and the status display made to illuminate constantly.
    8. Three year warranty.

    The bad:
    1. Automatic voltage regulation only boosts low line voltage. High line voltage conditions require this UPS switch to its battery.
    2. Line voltage reaches approximately 140 volts AC before the UPS intervenes and switches over to battery. Most anything should stand this for a little while, but it's stressful and I could see some devices not taking it so well.
    3. Batteries appear to be custom-made for CyberPower, thus locking you in to their replacements (at least for now). Given some time, I am sure the aftermarket will come through and you could always modify the unit to run with external batteries.
    4. An equipment protection policy having some ridiculous claimed value is provided should a failure of this product damage your equipment. Just read the fine print, expect technicalities galore if you ever should file a claim and be prepared to provide superlative proof that everything was in order.
    5. CyberPower doesn't discuss the serial port or what you can use it for in their documentation. (Maybe it's on their web site.)
    6. Adjustments of the unit's operational characteristics don't seem to be possible through its front panel interface, beyond the most basic settings (display constantly on and beeper muted).

Brent & Bruce train at One Shepherd
    Brent0331

    Published on Oct 14, 2017
A few months back Bruce and I were invited to partake in some training at the One Shepherd Leadership Institute in Missouri. After reading through One Shepherd’s website and checking out some of the videos they have posted on their Youtube Channel, we were more than excited to check out these guy’s facility and see how their training was.

What is One Shepherd you might ask? Well… It’s a non-profit organization which means all the staff there are volunteers that do not get paid of their work. They’re there purely for the love of what they do. Just like a military NCO school, they teach leadership through military oriented training. From my experience there, One Shepherd is what you want to make of it. If your goal is to go out and receive a few days of training on military oriented subjects and then see what it’s like to be a riflemen in a fire team through a 3 day final exercise, so be it. If your aim is higher and you want to become a proficient leader of men, you can get that opportunity as well. After going through some of One Shepherd’s training semesters in their leadership program, you will eventually get the opportunity to lead a fire team and ultimately become a patrol leader. As the patrol leader you’ll be in charge of either the BLUEFOR or OPFOR where you receive orders from higher. At that point its then incumbent on you to achieve those objectives through the tactics and orders you provide to your unit.

One Shepherd is a unique in the fact that they use MILES gear for combat simulations. Unlike the other combat simulation systems out there, MILES uses real weapons which have real life engagement ranges unlike SIM rounds, air soft, paint ball, etc. One Shepherd is the ONLY organization that provides MILES training systems to the civilian public. MILES gear is utilized by the U.S. and other foreign military for combat training due to the fact that it is the only system that incorporate everything into the fight with real engagement ranges. Troops, tanks, vehicles, helicopters, etc. can all be outfitted with its respective MILES equipment for force on force training.

Both Bruce and I highly enjoyed our time up there training with one shepherd. The training, people and over all experience there was all first rate. We highly encourage you guys to check them out and look into their training opportunities.

The Ultimate Base Camp Solar Panel - The Powerfilm 60 Watt Folding Solar Panel
    FullSpectrumSurvival

    Published on Oct 18, 2017
What is the ultimate base camp solution to recharge your electrical needs? What happens when your cell runs out of battery? When your flashlights dim or when your communications (ham radios...) lose their charge? Without a portable charging solution, you will be left in the dark and unable to continue your trek for recreation or for security.

The Powerfilm 60 watt solar panel is one of the most technologically advanced panels that I have seen. You can beat it up, leave it out in the elements, and it just keeps on charging your batteries.

Take a look at this unit and see if it is something that you might be interested in.

    Review the system here:
    http://amzn.to/2zkFMHc

It does have a steep economical curve. But many things worth their weight do. If you are in a position to build a base camp solution or if you want a mobile recharging station for your home, truck, or RV, this may be the option that you have been looking for.

    From the manufacturer:
Compact solar panel that is easy to transport, use and store
Lightweight weather-resistant fabric easily folds and unfolds
Durable for use in even the harshest environments
    Easily compatible with other devices
Package includes an RA-2 (female 12V CLA) and RA-16 (4.75mm barrel connector; connect to Goal Zero Yeti 150 and Yeti 400)

The Survival Russia Channel is about "The Reality Of Survival". I live on a Homestead in far away Russian wild nature. Here is no room for "TV" Survival.
Only Reality counts here. Survival Russia promotes the philosophy of always carrying equipment and never to be parted from equipment which will affect chances of Survival.
So did the old timers and pioneers of both the East and the West.

WWII BRITISH CIVIL DEFENSE FILM TEAM TRAINING OF RESCUE PARTIES 29064
    PeriscopeFilm

    Published on Oct 24, 2017
Dating to the dark days of the Blitz in WWII, and apparently shot on a real location near Trafalgar Square, this Ministry of Home Security film TEAM TRAINING OF RESCUE PARTIES shows how debris can be safely moved, so as to rescue victims of an air raid from collapsed structures. The film shows a rescue party arriving at the scene of a damaged building, with the leader making a strategic assessment of the integrity of the structure and coming up with a plan of action before beginning work. In this instance, since the stairs are not considered safe, a ladder is erected at the outside of the building (4:23). At 5;25 a casualty is evacuated from the cellar across a bomb crater. At 6:03, three more victims are found in the upper floors and evacuated by ladder. At 11:30, civilians are asked to pitch in to help in the clean-up effort so that coal plates (covers of chutes used to load coal into a building's basement) can be located and opened. The chute opening are used to communicate with people trapped in the building's basement. At 13:00, a carpenter works to shore up the building so the rescue effort can continue.
