A quick review of the WRTH 2017 edition....you should buy this book!
    Oxford Shortwave Log

    Published on Dec 29, 2016
Hi there, some of you might remember my review of the the WRTH 2016 edition, last Christmas. At the time, there were numerous rumours that it might be the very last printed version, which in my opinion would have been a real shame. Here is my review of the very welcome 2017 edition and as I've said in the video, despite some really excellent on-line sources for broadcast schedules and all things radio, there are discrepancies and ambiguities within sites and when comparing data between sites. The WRTH didn't let me down once last year and it's the only source of scheduling information that I trust completely. Whether you're a newbie to DXing, or an old hand, this book is invaluable and to help protect it's future, as many of us as possible should buy it!

I wish you all a very Happy New Year!

HRN 288: Amodeo Unplugged on HamRadioNow
    HamRadioNow

    Published on Dec 31, 2016
"Last Man Standing" is a hit, prime-time TV sitcom on ABC starring Tim Allen as Mike Baxter, a husband and father of three girls, employee of Outdoor Man (an outdoor-everything store like Carbellas or Bass Pro Shop) and ham radio operator KA0XTT. Ham Radio appears in the background of every show, with a fully functional shack in Mike's Outdoor Man office. Two episodes have put ham radio right in the spotlight as a major part of the story.

"Last Man Standing" co-Executive Producer John Amodeo NN6JA has often told the story of how ham radio came to be part of this TV show. If you missed it on other ham media, he'll repeat it here, but then go in far greater depth about how ham radio does and doesn't fit into it, ham radio in general media (and why most shows get it 'wrong'), John's personal history (he thought he was going into the ski industry), and a little on ham radio's own new media.

John says that he appreciates HamRadioNow for our long-form programs. He'll really like this one, not (just) because he's on it, but because it's over 2½ hours of in-depth one-on-one with KN4AQ.

Because this is an extra-long, mostly talking-head show, we remind you that it's a good candidate for our audio podcast version — that's just the audio lifted straight off the video and presented as a classic podcast on your favorite app. Details on that here:
    https://hamradionow.tv/rss/

We've reviewed Last Man Standing episodes twice before when they aired those episodes that put ham radio front and center. Here are links:

Elecraft KX2 : Receive Audio Tweaks & Tips
    데릭피코너

    Published on Dec 31, 2016
Some hints on how you can tweak the audio on your Elecraft KX2, when receiving a weak signal on a noisy band, such as 40 meters. I cover using ATT, the Receive EQ, and FIL adjustment. Please note that, on 15m or 20m, for example, I like to use the PREamp to boost signals, then ATT.

HDSDR versus FDM-SW2: a quick signal clarity test on 6180 kHz, R N Brazilia
    Oxford Shortwave Log

    Published on Dec 31, 2016
Hi there, although I downloaded HDSDR some time ago, this is the first time I've tried it. Immediately my thoughts turned to how it compares to the Elad FDM-SW2 software. Many months ago, senderjaeger suggested I should try it, because with very weak signals, switching SDR software can sometimes make a difference in achieving the best possible audio. So here is a quick comparison with Radio Nacional Brazilia, using the same demodulation, ASG and audio bandwidth filter settings - and the result was pretty similar audio - to my ears anyway! More comparisons to come, with weaker signals, once I get my head fully around the HDSDR software. Happy New Year & 73!

Hi there, I've copied this station a couple of times previously - once with the Sony ICF-2001D on a DX'pedition and at home in the shack with the Elad/Welbrook. Althought the audio fades in and out on this recording, when it's in, it's the clearest I've ever heard from this station. Recorded in Oxford UK on 10/10/16 at 01:57 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

This time I'm looking at the Maclogger DX logging software and rig control for the Mac platform. Plus a 1 minute tour of my shack.

Dave M0OGY/26AT151 looks back at Citizens' Band Radio in 2016, the ups and downs and what we can expect in 2017.
Also in this video I operate a 1982 vintage Shogun transceiver on the new UKFM (CB27/81) net on channel 35.
It's all well and good collecting classic radios, but let's activate a few on the new net held on the first Sunday of every month.....let's keep the bands alive!!.
Again thanks to my Subscribers in 2016 for all your kind comments and I will try and be more active on my Youtube Channel in 2017.
Please feel free to comment below.
