    Rebellion (Perspective, 612kHz AM/MW band 2/24/2017)
    Jonny

    Published on Feb 24, 2017
Recorded from a Philippine AM radio segment/editorial called 'Perspective' heard in station DYHP 612 around 8 in the morning. The program is 10-15 minutes long, I think, but I only managed to record 4 minutes of it. The program talks about communist and Islamic insurgencies in the Philippines that has been going on for 47 years.

The segment is to bring light to the decades old conflict after the current President Rodrigo Duterte declared an 'all-out war' to CCP-NPA-NDF after the failed peace negotiations when NPA rebels kidnapped and executed government soldiers this month. http://cnnphilippines.com/news/2017/0...

A portable SDR solution and my brief initial thoughts on SDR#
    Oxford Shortwave Log

    Published on Feb 22, 2017
Hi there, as some of you will be aware, I've taken the Elad FDM DUO out on DXpeditions previously and it's worked great. Either as a standalone unit via the Bose Soundlink Mini 2, or as a full SDR with a laptop, it performed really well, particularly with the 200 metre Beverage antenna. On the downside, using the Elad on Dxpeditions involves packing a lot of kit and of course a power source, which right now is a 12V lead acid battery.

More recently my Dxpeditions have taken place late afternoon, early evening, on an ad hoc basis, with the PL-3120ET and most recently the Eton Satellit. I've often thought how useful it would be to be able to actually view a spectrum of the BC band I'm in and so I dug out my NooElec RTL-SDR and loaded SDR# onto my smallest laptop. The combination works great, even during testing in my noisy office. Here are my thoughts on the software and hardware. Thanks for watching.

Office DXing with RTL-SDR and and few feet of wire: WWCR Nashville 15825 kHz
    Oxford Shortwave Log

    Published on Feb 23, 2017
Hi there, here's an ok signal from Nashville using a NooElec RT-SDR and their upconverter. Offices are notoriously noisy environments and mine is no different, so I was pleased to catch WWCR with the 'dongle' and a few feet of wire. Now wondering how I can string up 100 metres of wire across the car park lol!

Office DXing wtih Boni whip: Eton Satellit vs NooElec RTL-SDR: Reach Beyond Australia 15340 kHz
    Oxford Shortwave Log

    Published on Feb 23, 2017
Hi there, although not really considered 'hard-core' DX, it still felt pretty cool to copy a signal from Australia on my laptop intially, with the RTL-SDR and then (as expected) a much better signal on the brilliant Eton Satellit - and all in a noisy office. Interestingly, the Bonito Boni Whip placed by a window manages to pull in this signal with pretty reasonable SNR considering the local environment, so I was pleased. I have to say, the Boni whip is proving to be a brilliant compact antenna to keep in the car with a 'mobile DXing' kit. Recorded in Oxford UK at 13:06 hrs UTC. Thanks for watching.

    Strangest Thing On SDR Radio

While trying to figure out SDRPlay's fancy Radio Spectrum Processor (a software defined receiver) I came across the most unusual transmission on one of the Amateur HF bands. In this video we take a look at SDR, hear some interesting samples and , of course, have some fun.

HRN 308 BS#7: ARRL New Entry Level License Survey
    HamRadioNow

    Published on Feb 28, 2017
The ARRL has launched a survey of members asking about maybe asking the FCC for a new Entry Level License.

This show brings together a Pundit Panel of Podcasters (aka Herding Cats) to kick the ideas around. If Gary KN4AQ thought he had a plan for the show (and he sort of did), it fell before the onslaught of Neal Rapp WB9VPG (HamTalkLive), Sterling Coffey N0SSC and Marty Sullaway KC1CWF (PhasingLine Podcast), and co-host David Goldenberg W0DHG.

Many words... but probably still not the Last Word!

    The survey is here: http://www.arrl.org/license-1
