MAN CHOKED UNTIL HE CRAPPED HIS PANTS FOR TRYING TO PAY TICKET WITH PENNIES

Every so often a story comes along where a fed-up citizen pays off a silly municipal fine or tax with pennies. The general reaction is usually, “Good. Stick it to those pain-in-the-ass civil servants.” One of these stories happened in Michigan, but I’m sure your reaction will be much different. A man tried to pay off a traffic ticket with pennies, but the court officers ended up choking him until he crapped his pants.

WJBK reports that Anthony Sevy got a $10 parking ticket in Royal Oak, MI. When he went to the court to pay his fine with a credit card they told him that a $1.75 service charge would be added. Out of principal, Sevy refused to pay that additional sum and said he would return with cash.

That cash turned out to be rolls of pennies. Mind you, these pennies were rolled, not loose and it was only 10 bucks so that’s 20 rolls. The court clerk refused to take the pennies, which I’m pretty sure is a crime. This is legal US currency we are talking about here.

“He wasn’t happy about it so, in symbolic protest, he brought back penny rolls to pay for his ticket. The clerk wasn’t too happy about that, they refused to allow him to pay with penny rolls,” said Sevy’s attorney.

Sevy exchanged words with the court clerk and then turned to walk out. Two court officers came after Sevy and attacked him from behind.

“As he was leaving the court house with his back to the officer, the court officer began to choke him out, grabbing him, brought him to the ground. Mr. Sevy passed out and defecated himself,” Sevy’s attorney said.

Damn, he literally had the shit choked out of him for trying to pay a traffic ticket with real money. From there, Sevy was arrested and thrown in jail. He was charged with assaulting or obstructing a police officer and disturbing the peace. He plead no contest to disturbing the peace and the assault charges were eventually dropped.

As you can imagine, Sevy is suing the Royal Oak court officers.

“I don’t think anyone paying in penny rolls, whether it’s a preferred thing to do for a court clerk, warrants this type of this assaultive behavior and violation of constitutional rights,” said his attorney.

"His attorney says you can plainly see from the video that his client was the victim and suffered more than just physical injuries."

“I think the more profound and long-lasting injury is the psychological injuries he’s suffering as a result of this. He’s supposed to be in a safe place,” he said.

In video of the incident, it’s clear that Sevy didn’t do anything but attempt to walk out of the court. Two court officers followed him out and wrestled him to the ground. I’d say he has a pretty good case against the court. The dude shit his pants. That’s gotta be worth something. What would make this story completely bonkers would be if the city settled with Sevy and paid him in pennies.

Pennies are legal tender. If the court clerk had any brains, they would accept them and later sort through them for the Canadian pennies (that the Canadian mint is now recalling to melt down) and for wheat pennies. Being in Michigan state, which is close to the border, there has to be some Canadian pennies and wheat pennies.
