(CNSNews.com) - In the period May 17, 2017 through September 30, 2017, the Special Counsel's office has spent a total of $3,213,695 on its investigation into Russian interference in the U.S. election -- "and related matters" -- the U.S. Justice Department announced on Tuesday.

Robert Mueller was appointed as special counsel by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on May 17, and his investigation continues to this day.

The total expenditure of $3,213,695 in taxpayer money includes $1,709,597 in "Personnel Compensation and Benefits"; $223,643 in "Travel and Transportation of Persons"; $156 in "Transportation of Things"; $362,550 in rent, communications and utilities; $157,339 in contractual services, such as IT and transcripts; $26,442 in supplies and materials; and $733,969 in acquisition of equipment.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller to investigate "any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump," as well as "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation."

According to the order signed by Rosenstein, "If the Special Counsel believes it is necessary and appropriate, the Special Counsel is authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters."

Last week, Trump's former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to one count of lying to the FBI and agreed to cooperate with Mueller's investigation.

In addition to Flynn, three other people have been charged as a result of the FBI investigation, but so far no one has been charged with coordinating with Russia to throw the election to Trump.

Another liberal ripoff. They are manufacturing a case based on procedure rather than evidence based on misconduct. The system is rigged and Trump needs to start using that word again.
