Official: At least 3 people killed, 2 kids hurt in Northern California shooting
Jim Schultz, Record Searchlight , TEGNA 11:37 AM. MST November 14, 2017

At least three people have been killed and two children wounded in a shooting in a small northern California community, according to a Tehama County sheriff's deputy at the scene.

The shooting started shortly after 8 a.m., according to a Tehama County sheriff's deputy, who confirmed two children have been hospitalized with gunshot wounds and three people were killed in the shooting.

"Multiple shots were fired in Rancho Tehama, with multiple victims. I am told the suspected shooter is deceased from law enforcement bullets," the deputy said at the scene.

The deputy said he had no information on victims at the school, but children from Rancho Tehama Elementary School have been taken to a safe location, said the deputy, whose name was not provided.

"It's a very sad day for us in Tehama County," said the deputy, who was visibly shaken by events.

There were at least 100 law enforcement officers at the scene, with "multiple scenes. We have at least 5 scenes right now," the deputy said.

A helicopter medical crew reported they were transporting a 6-year-old victim to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. The child had two gunshot wounds, according to emergency scanner traffic.

A second child also was reported to have been shot in the right leg, according to emergency dispatch reports.

A 30-year-old man was also being taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the right thigh, according to emergency dispatch reports.

Initial reports said somebody was barricaded in a structure and there were multiple victims, including one who was dead.

Katrina Gierman, who lives on Rancho Tehama near the elementary school, said she went outside and heard gunshots.

"I have not left my house because I am with my newborn son," Gierman said. "Very scary moment."

"I have the right to bear arms, and I will protect my son if i have to," she said.

Jose Garcia, who owns the La Fortuna Market, about a half-mile from the school, said he heard "a lot of shooting" near the school shortly after 8 a.m.

He heard there were people injured, but those were unconfirmed reports.

An official at the Corning Elementary School District confirmed the elementary school in Rancho Tehama is on lockdown. Rancho Tehama is southwest of Red Bluff.

The nearby Rancho Tehama Airport is also on lockdown.

No one answered the phone at the elementary school, and an official speaking for Rich DuVarney, Tehama County superintendent of schools, said he was trying to find out what was happening.

The Tehama County Sheriff's Office escorted a busload of children from the school to the local Rancho Tehama Association, located at the entrance of the neighborhood.

Rosie DeOliveira, administrative assistant at the association, said that deputies have instructed the community to "shelter in place," stay indoors and stay low.

"Our doors are locked," she said.

Record Searchlight reporters are at the scene.

and nobody called the cops on him?

This is a developing story. Please refresh the page for the latest information.

An apparent felon who had been shooting hundreds of rounds of bullets in recent days in a small community in Northern California began firing at random Tuesday, killing at least four people and wounding 10 others.

The gunman, whom officers also killed, shot randomly at people and property in seven locations, and more victims may be discovered, said Undersheriff Phil Johnston of the Tehama County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office has not released the shooter's name nor his motive.

Tehama County Superintendent of Schools Rich DuVarney there were no student or staff fatalities.

Johnston at a 1 p.m. press conference said one child was shot at the school, while a second child was in a car with his mother when the gunman opened fire. The child's wound was not life-threatening, but the mother's injuries are, he said.

Ten shooting victims were taken to various hospitals around the North State.

It was not immediately clear whether more victims had been hospitalized.

The rampage all started shortly after 8 a.m. near Bobcat and Fawn lanes, where the gunman reportedly stole two different vehicles.

It ended in a shootout with two sheriff's deputies. The deputies, who weren't injured, found the gunman dead inside a car, and they also found the semiautomatic rifle and two handguns they say he used.

There were at least 100 law enforcement officers at the scene, the deputy said. The FBI also "is sending some teams up to assist at the request of Tehama County authorities," said Jason Wandel, chief division counsel at the FBI's Sacramento field office.

"Multiple shots were fired in Rancho Tehama. That evolved into multiple victims and multiple shots at the school," said the deputy. "I am told the suspected shooter is deceased from law enforcement bullets."

    The scene described
It's still unclear what the shooter's motive was, but officials at the press conference said there was a history of neighborhood issues with him.

The identity of the shooter is not yet known, but Johnston said the suspect was involved in a domestic-violence situation Monday and, a few months earlier, a stabbing.

Rancho Tehama resident Salvador Tello said he was taking his three children to Rancho Tehama Elementary School when the gunman fired at a truck in front of him.

He said he saw bullets hit the truck in front of him, so he made his children get down and put his truck in reverse.

Tello said that, as he left, he saw a woman lying dead in the street with her husband next to her, apparently wounded.

Jose Garcia, who owns the La Fortuna Market, about a half-mile from the school, also said he heard "a lot of shooting" near the school shortly after 8 a.m.

    Children among the gunshot victims
Deputies helped transport a busload of children from the school to the Rancho Tehama Association.

Rosie DeOliveira, administrative assistant at the association, said that deputies instructed the community to "shelter in place," stay indoors and stay low.

"Our doors are locked," she said to the Record Searchlight Tuesday morning.

Earlier, an official at the Corning Elementary School District confirmed the school is on lockdown. The nearby Rancho Tehama Airport is also on lockdown.

It isn't the first time the school had a gun scare.

In December 2015, a then-43-year-old woman was arrested after a school employee called law enforcement because she allegedly was walking around with a sawed-off shotgun. The woman also was arrested, in part, because deputies said they found a stolen pickup in her yard.

    Politicians react to 'senseless violence'
California politicians started weighing in on the shooting Tuesday, including the governeor and local representatives.

Gov. Jerry Brown said in a statement on his website that he was "saddened to hear about today’s violence in Tehama County, which shockingly involved schoolchildren."

"We offer our condolences to the families who lost loved ones and unite with all Californians in grief," the statement reads.

California Senator Jim Nielsen, who oversees the area of the shooting, said in a statement that his "heart goes out to the victims and loved ones affected by Tuesday morning’s horrific shooting in Rancho Tehama," calling the incident "senseless violence."

“We ... will be praying for the speedy recovery of those injured and for the emotional peace for those affected," the statement reads. “We lift up in prayer those killed and wounded, their families and loved ones, and the first responders and others who put their lives on the line to protect and save innocent lives.”

California Assemblyman Brian Dahle wrote on Twitter that his "prayers are with the innocent victims, their families, and those who are hospitalized from the Tehama Shootings."

"Let our Northern California community come together as one for those affected in this horrible time," he wrote, using the hashtag #TehamaStrong.

California Treasurer John Chiang — who's running for governor — said on Twitter there's "nothing more horrifying than people, especially children, dying from a gun shooting because this can and should be prevented."

"While we grieve today for the innocent victims, tomorrow we will honor them by working even harder at making CA a safer place for all," he wrote.

Former California Attorney General and current U.S. Senator Kamala Harris also weighed in, saying on Twitter that she was "heartbroken" about the shooting and "closely monitoring the situation."

"Grateful to the officers and first responders on the scene," she tweeted.

Living next to alleged gunman was 'hell'
The Rancho Tehama Reserve — a subdivision home to about 1,485 people — is described on its website as a “quiet private country community” located 12 miles west of Interstate 5 between Red Bluff and Corning. The community is a place “where people are friendly and the pace is relaxed," the website reads.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, it was 86.3 percent white in 2010 and had a poverty rate of 43 percent.

Resident Brian Flint said he got a call in the morning that his roommate was injured and that his truck had been stolen. It turned out his neighbor was the gunman, Flint said.

“The crazy thing is that the neighbor has been shooting a lot of bullets lately, hundreds of rounds, large magazines,” Flint said. “We made it aware that this guy is crazy and he’s been threatening us.”

Living near the gunman was "hell," Flint said, and the man was a known felon who often harassed him and his neighbors.

Katrina Gierman, who lives near the elementary school, said she heard gunshots when she went outside.

"I have not left my house because I am with my newborn son," Gierman said. "Very scary moment."

"I have the right to bear arms, and I will protect my son if I have to," she said.

Shootings at multiple sites in Northern California kill 4, wound 2 kids at school
POSTED 1:41 PM, NOVEMBER 14, 2017, BY ASSOCIATED PRESS, UPDATED AT 03:01PM, NOVEMBER 14, 2017

RED BLUFF, Calif. — Authorities say shootings in rural Northern California have killed four people. Two children are wounded.

    The shooter is also dead.

Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston tells a TV station in the city of Chico that officers are investigating at least five crime scenes in and around the school in Rancho Tehama Reserve, about 130 miles north of Sacramento.

Jeanine Quist, an administrative assistant with the Corning Union Elementary School District, says no one was killed at the school but a "number" of students were shot and wounded. Police say the number of wounded children is two.

The gunman appeared to have selecedt his targets randomly: a mother driving with her children, a squat schoolhouse in rural Northern California, where students and teachers were starting their day.

At least five people are dead, including the attacker, after shootings Tuesday morning in at least seven locations in remote Tehama County, about 125 northwest of Sacramento, Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston said.

Police fatally shot the lone gunman after a killing spree that appears to have begun with a domestic dispute and spread rapidly to Rancho Tehama Elementary School before ending in a roadside gunfight with police, Johnston said.

The victims included a mother driving her children to school when the unidentified attacker opened fire on them "without provocation or warning," the assistant sheriff said.

The mother was being treated for life-threatening injuries; her child was not seriously wounded, according to Johnston.

Hours into an investigation that involves the FBI, the ATF and California Highway Patrol, the motive for the shootings remains unclear.

"We have no known motive," Johnston told reporters. "We know of no real connection to any of the victims. Most of the victims in this case appear to be random selections."

"This is a sad day for us here in Tehama County," a visibly shaken Johnston told reporters.

"Anne and I are saddened to hear about today's violence in Tehama County, which shockingly involved schoolchildren," Gov. Jerry Brown said in a statement. "We offer our condolences to the families who lost loved ones and unite with all Californians in grief."

Just domestic violence. The medical field needs to send out a health bulletin to advise to double the dose of Paxil to their patients to reduce the potential for these type of events in the future! Nothing to worry about!

Hint: its a lie folks....a big fat lie and we're all eating it up like candy. Big pharma bears the responsibility for this shit!

Their "airport" is a field of grass. I flew in there once in my C150 to see my grandparents. There was a C205 parked there. That's it. Some guy came out to challenge me for landing on a private field, but I pushed back that I was invited to see my relatives. He gave way.
This is (or was) a retirement community, Retired people with no income are in "poverty". I don't think this is useful information.

They are trying to tell you that the shooter was trailer trash, and yes, this is yet another good reason to be armed and ready.
