    Making A Steel Bar Clamp

I made another edit of this video, called the "heavy metal" version:
    https://youtu.be/WGux8KA97rc

I'm welding using flux core wire that requires no welding gas. It is not as clean as mig with gas, but it gets the job done.
The clamp won't win any beauty awards, but the design is solid and lean - it's VERY light, but can deliver a lot of force. It's also super fast to adjust.

Last SNS for 2016! Happy Near Years Everyone!
In this episode we continue the machining of a 12" 4140 shaft. I start roughing in the shaft using one of my Iscar turning tools designed for heavy depth of cuts and fast feed rates.
I also give a short update on the carport issue.

Turning a Taper using the Monarch Taper Attachment Part 1
    Abom79

    Published on Dec 31, 2016
This is a two part series about the use of the taper attachment on the Monarch lathe. John Saunders of NYC CNC asked me if I'd be interested in making a custom tapered mandrel for him which turned out to be a great job to show and talk about tapers and using the taper attachment on the lathe.
In this first video i go over the taper attachment on my Monarch lathe, and then I get it set and indicated to the required .900" taper per foot.
I also start the machining of the mandrel in the Victor lathe getting one end turned and the centers drilled.

Turning a Taper using the Monarch Taper Attachment Part 2
    Abom79

    Published on Dec 31, 2016
After getting the taper attachment dialed in where we want it, it's now time to turn the shaft. I use a 5C collet chuck in the 4 jaw chuck to hold the shaft for turning, and proceed to make some light passes to ensure the op is going to perform the way I want it. We use flood coolant to keep the work piece and the tool cool and lubricated.

This was a job I did for John Saunders of NYC CNC, so be sure to check out his channel too. https://www.youtube.com/user/saunixcomp

This week on SNS I have the finishing lathe work on the big 12" gearbox shaft. After it's finished up i weigh it using the load cell since we have all been curious as to what it really weighs.
Also in the mix is some holiday viewer mail, a really nice Starrett tooling score, and chasing some threads on a tie rod using one of my chasing tools.

Taper Attachment & How It Works
    Abom79

    Published on Jan 7, 2017
This is a follow up video on the taper attachment on the Monarch lathe. I had many viewers ask me about how the taper attachment and cross slide is working when it's being used so I will try to get the camera in there close to show what all is going on, and how the cross feed screw is not being turned while the taper is being cut.

Also in the mix is some answers about something other things people noticed in the video, like what's hanging on the wall, and what indicators I was using.

I started a GoFundme campaign for my brother Kevin to try and help him with his medical needs. Please take a minute to check it out. Thank you. https://www.gofundme.com/kevinbooth

Laura´s Wooden Projector Cabinet (aka Wellness Box)

I love my Projector but I don´t like to have the setup visible at all times.
Especially because the cables look so messy and collect lots of dust.
This week I came up with a solution for that.

The Projector Cabinet...aka Wellness Box :)
I used Flightcase fitting for all the cable connections.
An electrician helped me with the power supply via a "powercon" system.

I am super happy with this solution!
Also this was my first time making handcut dovetails-super rewarding when everything fits together nice and snug.

A BIG "Thank You" to Rockler for sponsoring this Video! They sent me all these great handtools so I can improve my skills!

DEWALT SAWS IN WORLD WAR II PROMOTIONAL FILM 50674
    PeriscopeFilm

    Published on Jan 18, 2017
“DeWalt Saws In The War Program” is a World War II era black-and-white promotional film touting the use of the power tools to combat Axis forces. A scroll beginning at mark 00:35 explains how the United States “is creating the most efficient and finest Army and Navy personnel, equipping them with the best ships, planes, tanks, and guns of history.” Such objectives require the quick construction of training bases — leading the DeWalt company to develop new machines to meet the need. Several minutes of the film are dedicated to detailing the types of saws and their methods of operation. The design and speed of DeWalt saws quickens the process, the narrator reminds us at mark 04:38, “hour after hour, cut after cut, each as accurate as the first.” The film continues as the cutting process is painstakingly described. We see how saw blades are cared for and filed (mark 10:24) before returning to a lengthy parade of construction scenes of the barracks. DeWalt products are also used to create drill halls (mark 21:45) and to cut lumber used in the construction of the Lake Washington Floating Bridge (also known as the Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge), and shipyard construction in Puget Sound. “The world will know that here was a machine that in its humble way, but in no small way, had helped in final victory,” the narrator concludes.

DeWalt (trademarked as DᴇWALT) is an American worldwide brand of power tools and hand tools for the construction, manufacturing and woodworking industries. It is a subsidiary of Stanley Black & Decker.

The original company was started in 1924 by Raymond E. DeWalt, the inventor of the radial arm saw. The company grew quickly and was reorganized and re-incorporated in 1947 as DeWalt Inc.

After buying the company in 1949, American Machine & Foundry Co., Inc. sold it to Black & Decker in 1960.

Super easy pallet wood end table! The end result is a beautiful, rustic , one of a kind table made with your own hands. Make a matching coffee table using the same design for a gorgeous complete set! The ground is frozen, so no metal detecting for the next few months. This is my second hobby that keeps me occupied in the winter. Let me know in the comments if you would like to see more reclaimed wood project tutorials. Thank you for watching!
