    No dimes yesterday. Picked up my 2 boxes of halves though and one had a 40% ender. Anyways had a vet appt out of town afternoon, not good news- Maggie has blowed out her knee completely and the only thing they can do is surgery to the tune of $2800 which is really no better than keeping her still and letting the scar tissue form and replace the cartiledge (sp). Unless I can teach her to walk up a ramp into the back seat of the truck her riding days are over for a long time- she is good security when I'm doing my banking.
    Anyways before heading home I hit up most of the banks out there and came up with $40 in loose and rolled halves- I hadn't been out there for a couple years since I used to pick up bags out there from one bank- wouldn't you know it most all the same tellers too with "Haven't seen you in a long time" ha. Got (5) 40% too. Then last night I did the boxes and got 5 more 40%ers and a Walker. HH all, Mark

    Cold as ice here. 1-90% Ken and 1-40% out of 8 boxes for the month. To add insult to injury, I've been skunked 15 of my last 22 boxes going back to my last "good" box 2.5 months ago. If this skunk streak continues, it might be time to quit this prospecting gig. I guess my dreams of retiring a rich man on an island will have to be postponed a bit longer.

    Good luck out there folks.

    I know it ain't no fun when your not finding anything. I hope the cycle turns for you soon. I would switch to dimes for 2-4 weeks before throwing in the towel- that is if they will order you 4 boxes dimes instead of 2 halves.

    Remember my first sabatical in '08, one bank was ordering ME 12 boxes of halves- when I switched it to dimes for the last pickup she didn't see any difference (still $6K) till the order came in. 24 boxes, she asked ME if I was crazy- I told her she was lucky I didn't order cents or it would have been 240 boxes, she almost fainted.

    My bag bank didn't have anything for ME yesterday so I went and got 4 dime boxes to play with- only got one sliver but better than nothin. I try to get a piece every day when I'm home hunting.

    Only 2 more silver shopping days left for this year- for ME anyways cause I gots banks open tomarrow too. Just a matter of how many more dime boxes I can get my mitts on.
    Last night I got 12 slivers out of 14 boxes and tonight I got 16 out of 9. Total now is at 1112 dimes. HH all, Mark

    Slim pickins today- 1 Merc and 6 Roos out of 9 boxes. Still got 3 and plan to pick up 2 or 3 more tomarrow- then hopefully the bag bank will have had a dime bag dropped. That be it for 2012. Maybe I'll do a little freestylin tomarrow as well.

    All out of coin to search for silva so I guess thas it for 2012. Was hoping to go out with a bang but.......... I hit a couple of my old haunts this morning but when I couldn't even come up with clad halves I decided to not waste any more gas and went home. Did get 2 more dime boxes and the dime bag did get filled- silva for today was 1 Merc and 4 Roos.
    2012 totals include
    Dimes= 1124 (1 Barber, 64 Mercs, and 1059 Roos)
    Quarters= 3 Washingtons
    90% Halves= 21 (2 Walkers, 7 Bens, and 12 Kens)
    40% Halves= 159 (1 being a 1970D)
    War Nicks= 80

    Not bad for 7 monthes of silva hunting doing mainly dimes.

    Happy New Year all, Mark

    It was one of those "oh boy oh boy oh boy!" boxes. The first roll had a 90%, the next a 40%, and so on. In all, 16 rolls had a winner. What's funny is I had just told my teller that this would probably be my last box of halves and would be sticking with dimes. HA!

    One interesting note. Generally, the boxes I get are just plain ole half-dollar boxes from Garda. This was exactly the same, except it had a stamp on the bottom that said "Inspected By _____" and the date inspected (12/10/12) with the initials of the inspector, I presume. I inspected a bunch of my loser boxes I have stacked up and not a single one of them had this stamp. Hmmmm.

    My devious little plan was to wait until just after the holidays to order a box or two of halves. My thinking is that people would be cashing in their piggy banks to fund their plastic toy fetish at walmart and those old silva's would be hitting the street soon afterwards.

    Best night I had at the silva mine in awhile. 4 boxes of halves gave up a "trifecta" of 90% halves- 1 Walker, 1 Ben, 4 1964's, and 2 40%. Also got 8 Roo slivers out of 5 boxes. Dam its fun when your finding silva- this could get addicting haha.:banana:

    Another good hunt for dimes, 6 boxes gave up 12 slivers. 6 Mercs all from one box (no key dates but did fill a spot in my #1 book and one in my #2 folder), a 1916 Canuck, and 5 Roos bringing my total up to 26 already.

    Almost the same identical report as last night- again with 12 slivers but took 8 boxes. 6 Mercs all from the same box (same markings on the box as before- I hope to find some more of them tomarrow), only filled a spot in #2 folder. Another Canuck this one a 1956, and 5 more Roos- total bumps to 38.
    I hope to have another dejavu hunt again tomarrow, HH Mark

    Not as good a night for me as last time, but still enough to keep on rolling. 1 '64, 1 '65, and 1 '68. Back to watching Notre Dame getting their a$$es kicked by Bama.

    Here are my 2012 years results;
    I buy 1 box of halves a week at my bank & have to pay a $3.00 fee to get it.
    So besides the time involved, this years cost was $150.00

    35 - Skunk boxes
    40 - 40% halves ................ ($178.00 current coinflation rate)
    12 - 90% halves..................($130.00 current coinflation rate)

    So I doubled my money, but one could make the case that my time would be better spent.
    Still, it's fun...:cheerful:

    As long as its still fun its all good. Remember what you used to spend on "fun"? I do, and it was a ton more than now.
    Its like buying 500 lottery tickets only you always get your $$$ back minus $3 and gas.

    I'm strictly an edge searcher. I nick the inside edge where the roll tucks under the coins on each roll and it just unrolls, leaving the coins in a nice, neat line. With Halves, I can even pull out proofs and modern (2000 - 2012) just from the edge search. My 8-year old is a pro at searching silver, but doesn't quite have the knack for proofs yet. My 10 year old asked to help last night, but my 8 year old told him "you don't know how, and we don't have the time to teach you." Funny how he doesn't want to share. Although he did want me profits for the coins he found :) Smart kid.

    I just edge search dimes as well. Halves I edge search and then drop them one by one into a pile (let them slide off my hand one by one), very rarely do I hear a silver sing but sometimes do.

    Interesting day. I seem to be in a rut of getting 6 slivers out of 3 boxes but I ain't complainin. On a sad note one of my banks I get $2K/week said today that they are sposed to be charging ME for boxes, so may have to say bye bye to them. Not as easy to replace banks/branches as it used to be.
    On a positive note, I sold my #2 Franklin set and a set of Rosies today for much more than melt. Also got a guy on the line for a slabbed MS62 1927 double eagle I've got for sale but we'll see.
    Couple boxes of halves to get tomarow and probly more dimes to go with the 8 I still have.

    Cashed in this past weekend.

    I got 92% face on the 40% and about 97% on face for my 90% at the Orlando F.U.N. Show. Then I bought some silver rounds.

    I was smiling the whole day.

    Starting over again this week.

    Love this prospecting.
