Types of People to Avoid in after SHTF or WROL. Groups not to trust
    Serious Survivor

    Published on Oct 14, 2016
By UNSTABLE at 1:04, I mean only the most Serious Mental Illness. Not the average person who may take medication for treatable illness. I am referring to those who truly cannot function, who have illnesses that truly make them dangerous. Thanks.
This is a short video about a few types of people or groups that should be avoided after SHTF or WROL. Most of the videos about survival topics I like to make focus on the types of events, people and situations you may encounter or have to deal with after s**t hits the fan. Focusing more on the things necessary for long term survival. This video focuses on the types of people that could be dangerous to be around, encounter or align ones self with. Just my opinion and this is by no means a complete list as no list ever is. There is always more that can be added to the discussion. Take what you can, leave the rest. Thanks for watching.

Vehicle Movements in Non-Permissive Environs - PART 1

There could shortly come a time when a mundane task such as driving into town to pick up a family member could become a seriously dangerous activity. Some of us are used to this concept as we performed it routinely overseas as part of a military unit or a clandestine services unit.

The military unit will for the most part roll out in a heavy or overt-profile; meaning part of the psychological strategy is visibly projecting force....the "you don't want none of this" approach. This approach may work depending on the METT-TC or environmental/situational reality. As many a soldier has learned, in a warzone, this can make you a rather juicy target. This could also be applied to a domestic "grid-down/WROL/SHTF" scenario. The clandestine operator will generally follow a policy of low-profile (or no-profile), meaning they seek to blend into the local environment as neatly as possible. This is for a couple of reasons, most of which should be obvious but lets examine a few.

    Decidedly overt ODA gun truck

    1. Unlike a military unit with air assets and support forces, the ClanOps generally have very limited, if any support (usually limited to other members of their homogeneous unit).

    2. It is usually imperative to the successful outcome of their operation that they draw little if any attention to themselves.

    3. A military vehicle patrol/convoy/truck team can have anywhere from 12 men to company strength, while the ClanOps will generally have 2 to 5 men.

    4. Military units will move in armored vehicles whenever possible (almost exclusively anymore), while a low-profile armored vehicle may not be available for the ClanOps or fit within the mission parameters.

Where am I going with all this?

The ClanOps model is a logical model for the aforementioned SHTF scenarios we may face domestically. Most of us are going to be limited in manpower to our family/friends or neighborhood defense team members. We want to avoid drawing attention and avoid getting into pitched battles as much as possible. Where as before we could simply jump in the car and head into town for groceries, in this scenario we will need to start each movement with a plan and movement brief.

Your planning area should include large and small scale maps of your AO (area of operations) and extra maps for extended movements out of area. Ideally your maps would have overlays that indicate the following:

    1. Heavy traffic areas
    2. Dead ends and choke points (avoidance of likely ambush points)
    3. Government/Military facilities
    4. Traffic cameras
    5. Medical facilities (hospitals, pharmacies, veterinary clinics)
    6. Fuel points (public, government, commercial)
    7. Resupply areas (stores, caches)
    8. Known trouble areas (to be updated daily)
    9. Lay-up points / safe-houses

It should also include a radio scanner tuned to all local emergency frequencies, base station units for your particular radio system, cell phones, computers with area webcam feeds/traffic cams and any other comms items you deem necessary.

As part of your pre-movement brief you would draw your primary route, as well as secondary and tertiary routes. You would also label your phase lines or check points as well as your timelines for departure/arrival/return. This gives your backup team/QRF a better idea of where to find you if lines of communication break down.

In the follow-on articles we will discuss:

    - Equipping the vehicles
    - Maintenance tasks
    - Emergency action plans
    - Communications
    - Personal gear/weapons configurations for low-profile
    - Quick Reaction Force duties

Vehicle Movements in Non-Permissive Environs - PART 2

    Low profile

    Method of Movement

Due to the fact that it is very difficult for a solitary vehicle to defend itself effectively we will create an SOP that all movements will consist of two vehicles, a lead/primary and a follow/secondary. The primary is tasked with accomplishing the "mission" (picking up a local supporter, etc) while the follow vehicle follows at a safe distance (will vary depending on road/traffic conditions) and provides overwatch.

As an example, lets say that your primary vic (vehicle) is heading down a lightly traveled rural highway with follow vic a quarter mile or so behind. On long straight stretches of highway, follow vic would drift back and increase distance, keeping primary in sight. If the road gets congested or starts winding around, follow would close the distance as needed. The goal here is to keep primary in sight (as well as maintaining comms - we will cover that later) without giving away the fact that you are supporting the primary. You also want to stay within the range capability of your weapon systems (not to mention the operator's expertise level).

Lets say that primary vic is stopped by a local gang's roadblock or perhaps a rouge government agent executes a "pull-over". Follow vic would make comms with primary so as to keep an ear on what was happening and either pull over and prepare to support by fire, or rapidly make approach as the situation dictates. Ideally you would have a minimum of two people in each vehicle. The driver focuses on driving and the passenger/TC deals with operations.

This order of movement can also be reversed with the primary in the rear if you have a high-value person or item inside the primary. The lead vehicle would act as a probe or pointman, keeping the primary vic buffered as needed.

Once primary reaches it's target it will notify home/base (using brevity codes unless you are lucky enough to have secure comms). Follow vehicle will park in overwatch or "satellite" the area, depending on the situation. A third vehicle with your QRF (quick reaction force) would be on standby at your home/base for the duration of the mission. In the event that the primary/follow teams need support or rescue the QRF team would launch. The QRF should have your largest vehicle and should be heavily armed. The QRF may need to fill multiple roles including that of ambulance and should have the necessary medical support equipment on board.

    Equipping the Rig

We are assuming that you will have only soft-skin (non-armored) vehicles at your disposal as armored vehicles in the US are a rather expensive affair, both in initial cost and upkeep. With that in mind, remember that lacking armor - speed (or mobility) equals security.

This is a basic list for what we would keep in our rigs while operating in said environment:

    - Fire extinguisher
    - Fix-a-flat and puncture kit (x4)
    - Spare tire w/tools
    - 110ac power inverter
    - binoculars
    - seatbelt cutter/window breaker tool
    - case of drinking water
    - spare magazines for rifles/pistols
    - weapons maintenance kit
    - basic toolbox
    - large bolt cutters
    - tow strap/snap-strap
    - medical bag
    - VS-17 panel (you can make your own if needed)
    - IR/WL strobe
    - box of caltrops
    - smoke grenades (HC and colored)
    - road flares
    - aerial flare
    - spare batteries (for radios, GPS, flashlights, NVGs, etc)
    - Jump pack w/air compressor
    - compass
    - GPS unit
    - Radio (GMRS/CB/HAM whatever your unit is using)
    - Scanner/Bearcat
    - solar charger (for 12v system)
    - shovel/pick/e-tool
    - poncho liner (especially if in a cold climate)
    - lighters/matches
    - spare engine fluids
    - come-along (if vic does not have a winch)
    - gas can
    - roll of dark fabric screen or mesh and clothespins
    - windshield blocker/dash saver
    - Optional - camo netting large enough to cover rig if you need to cache
    - and of course, duck tape and 550 cord

Useful but overt bag - consider civilian bag with internal pouches

You can tailor this to fit your needs, but this will give you the basic necessities to keep the vehicle rolling in a bad situation. All "tactical" items such as magazines and long guns should be out of sight to someone walking around the outside of the vehicle. It goes without saying that tinted windows are a huge plus.

Keep in mind this list is separate from your personal go-bag, which may contain some of these items as well.

    ***

Next article will cover dressing for success.
    - Dressing around your equipment
    - Low profile fundamentals/establishing baseline
    - Long gun storage and deployment
    - Body Armor

Episode 2 - SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: Spotting Threat Indicators
    John Lovell

    Published on Oct 14, 2016
Ep.2 of SITUATIONAL AWARENESS is about how to spot threats in advance by picking up on threat threat indicators. The great danger is, that criminals and terrorists initiate attacks, so law enforcement, soldiers, or civilians have to react - meaning, they have the element of surprise and get to draw the 'first blood' so to speak. Because our chances of winning a fight and avoiding becoming a victim is greatly diminished if we are not already ready for an attack, we must put great effort, preparation, and thought into spotting attacks before they occur. The good news is that criminals and terrorists give off little clues about their next moves and intentions that someone who is paying attention can pick up on. This video details a handful of these different threat indicators so that those watching will be able to pick up on warning signs. Clenched fists, bladed stances, fixed stares, cold sweats, etc. are all examples of some of the threat indicators discussed in this video. How the Crackdown on Patriots Will Occur: “Dissent Will Become Unthinkable”

    Mac Slavo
    December 26th, 2016
    SHTFplan.com

Despite the rise of populism and a resurgence of American values, it has become more dangerous than ever to speak out. A new war on patriots has begun…

In the visible future, Americans may see real tyranny take hold at home. The deep state, which operates both inside and outside of the official channels and independently of presidents and Congress, is waging a war against the constitutional rights, financial independence and the rugged individualism that has allowed freedom to exist to a certain degree in this country.

Speaking out as a patriot – despite the sense of victory in the people with the election of Donald Trump – has never been more dangerous.

This is the time when people will start to disappear. But it begins digitally….

While a major event is likely to take place in the next several years that could justify red level action on the ground to raid, round-up and re-shelter patriots and prominent voices in the alternative media may well take place in an American future – and has historically taken place in several notable regimes – it is more likely to happen online.

The forum of social media on the internet is not only shutting down outlawed opinions, but it is also re-educating the populace about what is acceptable to think. It is doing more to reprogram the mind than TV ever could. Algorithms for censorship mean that dissent will no longer be heard by many people. Mere association with outlaws and undesirables will hurt social and credit scores, and society is likely to cluster around redundant groups of safe speech and like viewpoints reinforced by a narrow band of news coverage.

You will see individuals in the news who are labeled as domestic terrorists; some of them will have done nothing more than spoken out against the system. The NDAA and, now, the

    BLEACHING PUBLIC OPINION

Wash and rinse, concentrating down certain artificial attitudes, and bleaching out the undesirable ones. This has been an objective of the CIA, the State Dept., US AID and other government agencies for decades now.

Television programming, radio broadcasts, leaf-letting and other forms of propaganda are dissemintated, both here and at home, and routinely carry pro-state messages. The coordination of public thought and discourse is alarming.

Here’s a theory: Maybe the TV will only show you what you’re allowed to believe. Political pundits already have a name for this concept: the Overton window.

A shift in the “window of discourse,” known as the Overton window determines what the public will accept. Will any political question, the two opposing viewpoints, and all the middle ground, will fall within the accepted plane of thought, no matter how vehemently there are cries of right or left, yes or no, less or more, tyranny or freedom. Wikipedia summarizes:

The Overton window, also known as the window of discourse, is the range of ideas the public will accept. It is used by media pundits. The term is derived from its originator, Joseph P. Overton (1960–2003), a former vice president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, who in his description of his window claimed that an idea’s political viability depends mainly on whether it falls within the window, rather than on politicians’ individual preferences. According to Overton’s description, his window includes a range of policies considered politically acceptable in the current climate of public opinion, which a politician can recommend without being considered too extreme to gain or keep public office.

Because the public perceives that it has been offered multiple choices, individual members of the public take stake in whichever view – confined within that acceptable window – best fits theirs. But they lack perception of the shifts in direction that window has taken; they have forgotten all previous attitudes – or regard them as taboo or ridiculous.

Right now, the biggest shift in the Overton window is happening on social media. Facebook and Google are leading the charge, hiring new hit teams to flag and censor news.

Because it all works on algorithms, the “window” effect becomes literal, rather than just figurative. News and information that falls outside of the acceptable range of view is simply not seen by the public – it is hidden from view, and omitted from search results.

Yet increasingly, Facebook accounts, Google credentials and etc. are needed for identification, transactions, etc. Banking and commerce is leaning towards becoming completely digital. Cash controls have begun in the United States and abroad.

This is where prepping, patriotism and independence has begun to be outlawed. Politically-correct speech is now just programmed into the system.

Electricity and data are now intertwined. Smart meters, smart grids and smart appliances go together and make tracking built in. The concept of digital footprints expands…

    OUTLAWING DISSENT & INDEPENDENCE

In the next two decades – independence will be ferreted out.

While a truly free spirit can never be crushed, they are making it harder than ever to go rogue in occupied America.

Living off the grid has been criminalized in many places, and strongly discouraged in most, with codes leading to conformity in the real world. True individuals are few and far between, but the struggle goes on.

Pockets of resistance continue to be met with public relations problems and threats of government raids. Malheur and Bundy Ranch have offered a glimpse into what may be ahead; Waco and Ruby Ridge provide examples from the past.

Patriots will endure… but in the coming years, they will either work inside the system – where hackers and whistle blowers have become traitors – or operate outside of its boundaries altogether. Patriots will need people on the inside and outside.

Individuals will be rounded up through police encounters; speech will flag people as dangerous, and arrests will be made in conjunction with domestic disputes, nosy neighbors, false reports, etc. Database “pings” will pre-mark dissenters for detention or prison.

Patriots have been marked for suspicion, and so have the symbols that express those positions. Beware in how you are seen, particularly, if there is a need to stay below the radar and avoid detection. Unless you have shielded your identity, your past actions and words could give you away.

The system places patriots under suspicion, and closely monitors independent, unaccountable actions… because they are control freaks.

    A COMING CIVIL WAR

A civil war is being created as a response from the system to maintain long-term dominance through banking and information management.

Meanwhile, they will be coming for those who are speaking out. The only question is when.

    As Michael Snyder reported:

According to a senior government official who served with high-level security clearances in five administrations, “There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived ‘enemies of the state’ almost instantaneously.” He and other sources tell Radar that the database is sometimes referred to by the code name Main Core. One knowledgeable source claims that 8 million Americans are now listed in Main Core as potentially suspect. In the event of a national emergency, these people could be subject to everything from heightened surveillance and tracking to direct questioning and possibly even detention.

War will be asymmetrical, and physical conflict will be balanced with cyber engagement of public perception.

As resistance continues, the liberty contingent will have to be wary of an evolving threat matrix that seeks to use technology as a means of control.

Above all, recognize that the system will phase in their control gradually – it is this seamless shift of perception, stretched out over time, that is its greatest weapon.

    HOW TO DISAPPEAR COMPLETELY

Identity protection will be crucial, and use of technology should reflect the state of the art of surveillance.

If you want to get yourself totally outside of the system, and stay there, it will be increasingly difficult to do, but not impossible.

Sargent Survival at BeSurvival.com has some very solid tips for making this a reality. Here are just a few, but read them all and be thorough about your process:

    • There are 30 million plus surveillance cameras on the US, one camera for every ten Americans.
    • The average American is in 200 databases.
    • Putting a plan in motion to keep you from being tracked is a good idea if you want to devise a new life for yourself
    • Right before you leave, change your appearance significantly
    • Before you leave, terminate all of your accounts (email, bank accounts, credit cards, etc).
    • Don’t terminate your social network sites as you can use these sites to provide disinformation.
    • Before you leave, delete all of your computer files and get rid of your computer’s hard drive – boil; smash; run a Degausser/ electromagnetic wand
    • Get rid of all of your personal items like photos, trophies, mementos, etc. that could tie you to your old life.
    • Get rid of your cell phone or tablet as these can be easily used to track your location
    • Break your normal patterns (what you eat, where you frequent, how you shop, the kind of work you do, etc).
    • Completely change your lifestyle [and employment]
    • Pay for everything with cash.
    • Avoid frequenting your usual places
    • Ditch your car and find a substitute; get rid of the toll pass which can track your movements
    • To determine the best place to resettle, choose a mid-sized city in a not overly cold place. Big cities and small towns are not good places for anonymity because of all the cameras.
    • To change your identity … petition the court to change your name legally to a new–and common–name.
    • Apply for a driver’s license under your new name.
    • Buy a basic pre-paid cell phone (not a smart phone). Replace the pre-paid phone frequently, about every 2 weeks.
When you are not using the cell phone, remove the battery
    • To get back online use a new laptop. Stay away from libraries!
    • Always use a hard wire to your laptop and turn off the wi-fi; reroute your ip address so your location can’t be determined
    • Be aware of the NSA spying and the ECHELON program in the US which monitors phone and computer transmissions for keywords and messages.
    • The police now consider common activities suspicious such as bird watching, sketching or painting, or taking photographs in public.
    • There are 70+ FUSION centers in the US which coordinate surveillance and other information.
    • Technology is now available to identify you by the way you walk, your facial measurements and biometrics
    • It will be 7 to 10 years before your old identity drops off of databases, if ever.
    • The less you interface with technology, the better off you will be.
In the next few years, you must make careful decisions about when you will and will not engage the system, use technology, or participate in society.

Freedom will not be compatible with the digital control grid; it will endure in ways that out think the constraints that have been placed on us, in whatever way it can.

Most people do situation awareness at some point and then forget it, it's human nature, and as you said it takes discipline which most of us don't have. A good way to go about is the baby step, as I call it. A baby starts with one step or two, then goes back to crawling, then steps, then crawls. Eventually the baby realizes it can cause more destruction faster by walking than crawling and off it goes on two wobbly legs. It's a natural progression based on repetition

I began by sticking the picture of an eye inside my front door so that every day as I left home I would remember and take care as I opened the door. I'd look around, see if their was anyone nearby waiting to bash me on the head. Baby steps. Then as I arrived home I'd remember the eye and be on the alert as I entered the door. I only relaxed after I has done a quick scout of the rooms to see if anyone was there and all was as I left it. that's all I did for a while, then I began to do it leaving and entering the car, a natural extension of the home thing. Now I do it most times I see someone near me and I usually nod or smile out of politeness, after all I am watching them, and also I want to gauge their reaction to my observance. Someone who is a threat will not usually respond in a similar manner.

The hardest part of situational awareness is avoiding the superiority mindset, where you start to suspect everyone around you in you're daily life is a drone or idiot. Unfortunately I never avoided that. I consider nearly everyone I see as a useless eater, cannon fodder, drone lol.

The Surveillance State Did Not Disappear With The Trump Victory: “It Is Still Lurking And Completely Intact”

    Jeremiah Johnson
    January 7th, 2017
    SHTFplan.com

One of the things Donald Trump has really done correctly is to assess his future arena in the areas of intelligence-gathering and operational security. Trump wants to return to a “courier” method of transmitting sensitive information and classified documents for the purpose of reducing the amount of material that can be hacked or stolen. There is a subtlety about this for a caveat, in case the compliment has bloomed flowers in your thoughts: the NSA $50 billion facility for collection and storage of data in Utah won’t be shutting down anytime soon.

As Snowden’s exposes clearly pointed out, the government has clearly followed Petraeus’ glowing “internet of things” yellow brick road to form an integrated, interconnected surveillance state. All CCTV (closed circuit television) systems, all merchants with cameras, all law enforcement cameras…all of the camera surveillance systems everywhere are either tied into data collection immediately or can be accessed for use at a later time.

The latest “Jason Bourne” movie clearly illustrates how the government can utilize devices such as cellular telephones (especially the ones with cameras) to track movements, record conversations, and be a “piggyback” to relay information to a nearby computer or a camera. This isn’t the future: this is now.

There is an older piece written by Michael Snyder in June of 2013 entitled 27 Edward Snowden Quotes About U.S. Government Spying That Should Send a Chill Up Your Spine. The information in this article is directly from Edward Snowden that revealed exactly what the government has been doing regarding their total surveillance program. The surveillance did not occur overnight, and in the manner of the “frog in the cold-water kettle” by stretching out the time for putting it all into place, the stultified public’s focus was either diverted or bypassed entirely.

Here are a few other pieces worth reading over regarding the government’s total information awareness and the (ongoing) growth of the surveillance state:
As can be seen, all of these developments require time, and the bypassing of the public awareness/consciousness. Time is necessary to inculcate these changes; however, time also serves as a tool to insulate their actions from what would normally draw outcry if all the actions were taken at once. A couple of pieces that illustrate this concept are as such:
These two pieces are extremely significant. They show how the transfer of the Internet to U.N. control has been pushed for quite some time, now. Guess what? It has been done. Obama did it in October when he handed off the control (through his Commerce Department) to ICANN, the multinational firm assigning names and numbers to Internet users and controlling content.

See, Obama quietly did this just before the election in November, and barely anyone took notice of it. Now, legislation has been passed to “combat disinformation and ‘false’ news and propaganda,” in essence, targeting independent news media sites. Back in 2012 when those last two cited articles were written, the country had already suffered for four years under Obama with no sign of a let-up. The UN was coming for the guns (John Kerry’s signing the Small Arms Treaty), coming for the wilderness areas (the Agenda 21 and EPA assault on private property and public lands), and now the internet.

It wouldn’t have been tolerated and may have thrown things off for the election in the fall of 2012 for Obama. Quietly in October of 2016, Obama sneaked it through the back door of transferring control to a corporation…the public consciousness is bypassed…and the UN-controlled corporation now has control of the Internet. Now is the time to marginalize and criminalize public and journalist opinion to clamp down on independent thought and alternative news sources.

Obama had an eight-year ride akin to a sled going downhill: unchecked and unstopped, except for his term expiring. Now (just as with the Overton Window principle), the paradigm shift takes a breather with Trump, who will continue the course, but at a slower pace.

The U.S. is still pointed in the direction of losing its national sovereignty and heading toward global governance, but the angle of descent is not so steep or the speed so high: this “deadens” the public’s awareness to lull them into thinking the bad years are behind us and the struggle is done with Trump’s win.

It hasn’t stopped, that sled of paradigm shift: it is still creeping forward. If we are not vigilant, the machine that has come into creation this past decade will tighten its own screws and proceed on the course to global governance quietly, while no one notices.

It is not so much giving the people what they want, as making them believe they’re getting what they want.

Bush Jr. and Obama laid the groundwork, and the surveillance state as exposed by Snowden did not disappear with the Trump victory. It is still lurking, completely intact just below the surface of visibility. Where the ship will be taken will be largely in Trump’s hands, and there will be others that will influence him both where and how to steer the ship. Guess (to paraphrase Pelosi) we’ll have to wait and see where we’ve gone to after the ship has docked.

Mr. Johnson is also a Gunsmith, a Certified Master Herbalist, a Montana Master Food Preserver, and a graduate of the U.S. Army’s SERE school (Survival Evasion Resistance Escape). He lives in a cabin in the mountains of Western Montana with his wife and three cats. You can follow Jeremiah’s regular writings at SHTFplan.com or contact him here.

"This film focuses on the interviewers, interpreters, and photo reviewer specialists that comprise G-2 military intelligence." Although an Army film, it entered the National Archives from the CIA film collection.

Lip sync was lost in a few places in this film. It was this way on the original, and is too inconsistent to be worth the effort to try to correct it.

Reupload of a previously uploaded film, in one piece instead of multiple parts, and with improved video & sound.

Public domain film from the US National Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied.
The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original).

Military intelligence is a military discipline that exploits a number of information collection and analysis approaches to provide guidance and direction to commanders in support of their decisions. This is achieved by providing an assessment of available data from a wide range of sources, directed towards the commanders' mission requirements or responding to focused questions as part of the operational or campaign planning activity. In order to provide an informed analysis, the commander's information requirements are first identified. These information requirements are then incorporated into a process of intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination.

Areas of study may include the operational environment, hostile, friendly and neutral forces, the civilian population in an area of combat operations, and other, broader areas of interest . Intelligence activities are conducted at all levels, from tactical to strategic, in peacetime, the period of transition to war, and during a war itself.

Most governments maintain a military intelligence capability to provide analytical and information collection personnel in both specialist units and from other arms and services. The military intelligence capabilities will interact with civilian intelligence capabilities to inform the spectrum of political and military activities.

Personnel selected for intelligence duties may be selected for their analytical abilities and personal intelligence before receiving formal training...

Many of the most important facts are well known, or may be gathered from public sources. This form of information collection is known as open source intelligence. For example, the population, ethnic make-up and main industries of a region are extremely important to military commanders, and this information is usually public...

The tonnage and basic weaponry of most capital ships and aircraft are also public, and their speeds and ranges can often be reasonably estimated by experts, often just from photographs. Ordinary facts like the lunar phase on particular days, or the ballistic range of common military weapons are also very valuable to planning, and are habitually collected in an intelligence library.

A great deal of useful intelligence can be gathered from photointerpretation of detailed high-altitude pictures of a country. Photointerpreters generally maintain catalogs of munitions factories, military bases and crate designs, in order to interpret munition shipments and inventories.

Most intelligence services maintain or support groups whose only purpose is to keep maps...

It is commonplace for the intelligence services of large countries to read every published journal of the nations in which it is interested, and the main newspapers and journals of every nation. This is a basic source of intelligence.

It is also common for diplomatic and journalistic personnel to have a secondary goal of collecting military intelligence...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_...

The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) is a member of the Intelligence Community of the United States, and is the central producer and manager of military intelligence for the United States Department of Defense, employing over 16,500 U.S. military and civilian employees worldwide. The Defense Intelligence Community is headed by the DIA... The DIA, designated in 1986 as a Defense Department combat support agency, was established in 1961 as a result of a decision by Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, under President John F. Kennedy. The Department of Defense created the DIA with the publication of Directive 5105.21, "Defense Intelligence Agency" on 1 August, effective 1 October 1961...
