Compared to some other forums that I frequent, GIM2 has the fewest problems hands-down. Looks like we have the "A-Team" on the issues.

I'm not whining or complaining, as I'm sure the Mods are doing everything they can to rectify the situation.:bear_thumb:

What are the odds of restoring the lost posts from 03/14 to yesterday? There was some outstanding material in that time span and it would be a shame if it was lost permanently. Heck, I even had a couple dang good posts that I actually applied some thought to.

Had some material whacked from the Silver thread - oh well.

I think the CB's are holding our posts hostage till Irons quits finding free gold and I stop CRH.

    HH Irons, Mark

BTW I posted this to see my stats and I don't know if any is missing or not- do you all keep track in a post ledger or something?

That BTW just jumped my post total from 704 to 706.

I left about three weeks ago. No, I didn't totally leave as in gone, I went on vacation. Don't ask from what, cuz it wasn't my vacation, it was my wife who planned it all. Don't even want to go in to all the bad things that happen to on vacation. Like, for instance, a lost reservation at a motel on the beach - that got blamed on a computer, BTW, and had to make other arrangements. Arg.

When I got home, my computer, which I had properly powered down, wouldn't start. Bad power supply, also took out other parts when it spiked. So, had to buy a new computer.

More than likely all my lost posts and thanks are now stored on my old hard drive, which I have yet to recover as I have been too busy with other things to spend much time messing around with old computers.

To be honest, most of my posts seem to be here, but since I haven't kept track, I have no idea if some are gone or not. Note, as soon as I recover the data from the old PC, I'll see if that's where all the lost posts are being stored. :bear_laugh:

QWAK,B2 Stealth,Obviously no one sent you the memo about the anual GIM end of year evaluation of posters and the PRIZE of 100 ASE and a 3 day vacation in Vagus.:thumb.aspx:

It is based on a complicated equasion that compares the number of posts devided by the number of thanks recieved for them and multiplied by the number of months a poster had been a member of GIM2.:551:

All pay outs to be convertable to or in bitcoin!:23_30_104:

You should have recieved a digital packet with in 24 hours of joining GIM:hmmmm2: --- it must have been some kind of computer glitch like what happened with APMEX popcorn cans with a ASE in the bottom of each several years back.:signs14:

    Just kidding:hahaha: :cry1::36_11_6:

PS:I have not figured it out my self:hmmmm2: but to some people it is of extream importance and segnifigance.:stupido2:

Isn't it obvious? Switched servers and adding new members were the only changes...that means at least one of the new members must be a spy sent from the government! Maybe it was even a disguised government server they switched us to! They are trying to stir up trouble and pit us all against each other! :afraid: *whispers* Trust NO ONE

err, what I really meant was... All is well, keep moving, nothing to see here. :bear_thumb:

Why should we a member of gim car what is happening over at insidefutures.com unless they are on the same servers as us and their problems have migrated over to gim? Or unless you did something to insidefutures.com that you are proud of? Are they part of gim and it's now one big hiccup?

    Scorpio did you do something???????????????

Edit: Is this line of the gibberish you posted directed towards you?

firstly, no affiliation to inside at all, it was posted to show other sites having issues as well,

    current status,

the 3 weeks are still missing,
the developer and I are beyond our capabilities,
we handed the ball off to AgGal and RichG, they do db's and big iron

we are at the stage where the server swap, when it happened, pulled the db from a date, and left the rest behind

hostgator swears they didn't do anything and brought it through current, my point is, they didn't ........ and how do you prove a negative as we have no access to their end,

now we are at the point of trying to figure out how to get those three weeks without losing current,

damn near requires trying to insert those 3 weeks into the middle of a moving target

that is why everyone is stumped on how to pull it off

that is my take on it

Spawn a conspiracy theory by announcing that the forum is to be shutdown at a time certain so the three weeks worth of threads can be reinserted and that it is expected to take X amount of time. Then actually shutdown the forum at the time certain and reinsert said three weeks worth of threads into said forum and returning said forum to online status within the said X amount time.

it isn't that easy or it would be done,

because some threads current are involved,

without breaking it down line by line to see the changes current vs then, then inserting those specific items,

and spending oodles of dough to do so with a db specialist,

we are down to the least damage option now, and trying to figure that out

Scorp: I figured that you were doing just that. Just poking a fun at you.

Trying to hit a moving target isn't easy, but appreciate all your and your staffs efforts to correct this strange happenstance.

Best of luck but it sound like an almost impossible happening given the number of threads that are currently being used each day. That line I picked up on was just humorous to me.

    Best of luck.

I had only joined GIM recently and not only did I lose what little I had contributed to the threads but my whole account was deactivated.
I am to stuburn to just go away so I created a new account. I wonder how many other newbies will do the same?

I'm not a DB specialist, just tossing out an idea:

How about creating a 'The Lost Three Weeks' forum that archives all of the posts and their threads of those three weeks? At least the posts would be preserved and accessible. Any reintegration of threads could be done as needed and a thread at a time instead of a mass migration.

I'm no expert, but I have some experience with database problems and have had to reinsert records into a live database before. (I speak SQL if you want to PM me AuAgGal/RichG) Without knowing the table structures and what defines distinct records and so on I bet the "easiest" (which isn't likely to be very easy) would be to move all records since the backup date to temporary tables, then reinsert the missing records, then re-insert the posts over the last few days. Sounds easy peasy, but it ain't ;):(... Regardless of whether or not the missing data is restored, thanks to all who have been working on it trying to make it happen .

On a related note, isn't "Dude" a full-time DB guy? I know we have a few coders here so hopefully someone more knowledgeable than myself steps up to the plate...

Don't know if this will be helpful to Scorp or not, but...

The relatively quiet thread of Feedback for PM Dealers, Provident Metals, in particular lost all posts after 3-11-13. I made a post on 3-14 and it is gone. I think the last post was #215 on 3-11-13.

This is just me, but typically I provide Thanks when the post entails something I might have been forced to type with my own fingers, and then of course, there are just some posts which are so awesome, I have to give Thanks!

In the grand scheme of life and the universe, a three week data disappearance is not such a bad thing.

Thanks Scorpio and mods working on this issue!

FWIW, private messaging and "friends" is acting strange as well. Lost a couple of friends since 03/13. PM's since that date have disappeared, but some old ones that I think I cleared out have resurfaced, including a really entertaining one from the DUCK (something about soap in the duck pond) de ja vu.

I just saw this thread. I blame the missing threads on an Obama drone strike. I'm only half-kidding.

Noticed that too. I had well over 500 posts but many have disappeared (along with the thanks).

    Sorry guys,

Here is what I figured happened,

Hostgator decided we needed to be switched to a different server
I didn't think we needed to as we were fine on capacity and so on, no issues, so didn't pay it much heed.

Turns out it was a mandatory switch for whatever reason, whether they were switching farms or whatever with their customers. We have no idea.

Anyway, they chose a date, exported our data to the new server, then told us to switch ip's as our server location had changed. Some cubicle artist pulls the data off our site, and takes it over to a new server. Then it sits there, waiting.

Problem is, from the time they loaded the info on the new server, and we started getting error emails, was basically that 3 weeks.

That was that burp on the Sat night, they killed the old server, and went hot live new

We cannot prove any of this, and they aren't giving us straight answers.

We do not even know yet if that data exists on the old server as of yet, where it can be accessed.

    How did this happen?

--one, we mirror our storage so we have a 'live hot' backup ready to go at anytime should a hardware failure happen to tower 1.
--doing this provides sort of a backup, but not a complete backup because what is happening on tower 1 also goes to the mirror on tower 2, which means if 3 weeks of data disappear from the main, it will eventually disappear from the mirror also.
--there was no 'additional' backup procedures other than prior to making changes, we do a additional backup at that point, just in case it all crashes. Didn't see the necessity in paying for a backup we don't use, as we already had coverage with the mirror.

--now if we had a additional backup, the whole thing with the 3 weeks could have been imported, and we would have only lost a couple of days, whatever. Not near the damage done.

--yet, my logic was simple. We were fine, leave us alone. Hardware is doing fine, no need to move us around.

--We will never get a straight answer from Hostgator about all of this.

    OPTIONS:

--see if the data exists on the old server first
--if it does, access it and back that up externally of hostgator
--have a db specialist insert it into the forum, so we don't lose all the days since this started last Sat
--then we would retrieve 80-90% of that data, as I am sure that some would still be lost in the flop.

--second option is to just move on, and look at other hosting alternatives.
--also have assigned a Gim'er to watch the server activity more closely than I was.

--third option is to sue the heck out of hostgator and tell them it is their fault
--chances of that being successful are just about zero, as they will claim some issue or other allows them to do whatever.

--fourth option is to go independent of corporate hosts
--wherein gim would he held on a server farm, with no corporate support of any type. They provide a box and a portal with capacity to the net.
--we would be responsible for all server work/maintenance/activity.

    WHERE WE STAND:
-we are currently at Option 2, and we are researching Option 4 at this time.
-our goal is to become totally independent of these pos corporations and their bs.

    Scorp

Never let my appreciation go unsaid. Can imagine it's alot of work keeping the site up even with a corporate host.

Hope the pay is good. :bear_blink:

    Thanks Scorp.
