QWAK,the_shootist,What reward (?) do they pay people to watch them play foot ball? :meditation: Do they at least buy your beer? :blond:

Organised sports are for people who need something to do and have an inclination to play useless games. :oriental:

I usually agree with you Duck however; I'm a life long New England Patriots fan. I've been one since the late 1970's. I'm very fortunate to be a fan of such a successful sporting franchise. Most of us enjoy being fans simply for the thrill of it. Let me tell you, there was very precious little to cheer about for the Pats in the 70's and 80's...but it was fun to watch them, and it filled a gap in my life. Very few fans get to see their team go from seemingly endless losing seasons to 4 World Championships and a yearly trip deep into the playoffs for 15 years straight!

If you understand what context you need to take being an organized sports fan, it can be very rewarding.....it can also be very dumb and expensive if you don't....it's all in the context

Yeah, I always used to classify NE with the Bucs.... Losers. I do like Tom Brady tho. And, hell, the Bucs beat my Raiders several years ago. All this means is there is no point to football.

As someone who grew up playing football nearly every single day of my childhood and well into my teen years in the snow or nice weather, in the street or parking lot or on grass I can appreciate the athleticism that goes into playing at the professional level.

If you want to win in football you have to be smart and physical unless it is a complete mismatch.

I'm not trying to be critical. I love football, nascar, and the occasional olympic event, oh and the world cup. I don't like half time shows with a scewed message. It truly is hard to be a raiders/texans fan, hehe. Love the sport, hate the politics. Actually, thinking of boycotting SB LI because of what went on with SB L.

I'm sure you are correct. Most worthwhile pursuits require consoderable time, effort and learning to be put in before one can appreciate them.

Many years ago I watched two or three American Football games in England. A match seemed to take forever, with less play than breaks. Whenever it seemed that it was going to get exciting, some peeps threw handkerchiefs in the air and it all stopped again.

But I knew nothing of what I was watching. I was there with an ambulance to render First Aid and to transport peeps to hospital if required. The worst injury fortunately was only a broken collar bone. We were baffled as to the correct method of getting the man safely out of his body armour and had to call for expert help and advice. Even with plenty of Entonox and two experts, the patient clearly found the process very painful.

Nowadays there would be a proper risk assessment and extra training before going on such a specialised duty.

I have to agree with this. Being from across the pond I had no clue about the game or rules. Slowly learned the game and love watching it now. Unfortunately I picked the Lions to follow.

OK, just walked by this stadium, YESTERDAY.
[IMG]I walked up the far side that has the big corporate Viking Ship with the 2 story LED sail. And, I kid you NOT. I swear I heard this from inside that big crystal cathedral.:

It's in the stars. It told me Green Bay is coming to Superbowl LII in MN, but they are going to loose. Yeah. Last time this happened to me was Lambeau Field in summer of 1996 when I knew they were going to win. Can't win em all.
