I thought "Gone With the Wind" was okay, maybe even decent, but not great. (Better than "Oklahoma", though. ) "Casablanca" was great.

If someone is taking my vote, I would replace "Gone With the Wind" with "Blazing Saddles". Now that's a movie!

Well, being truthful, Spain [Columbus] did invade the New World. Let's be honest here. That was the way things were done back then. If the natives had better technology they would have done the same to Europe. Also we have to keep in mind the New World as a whole was no garden of Eden, in fact, it was in a almost constant state of warfare and raiding and abuse. Why are people shocked about this? Study history, it is for the most part, constant warfare and struggle everywhere on the planet, maybe the Eskimos and a few others in remote areas might be the exception.

Are the parties over? What happened
    • By Mike Krauss

The Republican and Democratic parties are in disarray.

The GOP is torn by moderates and conservatives, all dug in and unable to find terms they can agree on for important legislation.

The Dems are being torn by a collection of progressives, with whom many Americans are in sympathy, the increasingly irrelevant and very old guard of the establishment, like Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton, and an energized leftist fringe who are driving the party.

The only thing Dems agree on is obstruction of President Trump, vying with each other in a media feeding frenzy of anti-Trump vilification. No criticism, no speech is too over-the-top.

Memo to Democrat politicians and talking heads: take two valium and call me in the morning. Seriously.

    Congress is paralyzed.

What happened? The answer is that everybody guessed wrong.

Hillary guessed wrong, and so thought nothing of lying about Benghazi and destroying lap tops, emails and whatever inconvenient truth might be laying about that linked her, Bill and company to a lot of Russian money. It would all go away in her administration.

Former Attorney General Lynch guessed wrong, and it was just business as usual to meet Bill in an intended secret meeting on her aircraft, subverting an inconvenient FBI investigation, because that, too would go away in a Clinton administration, in which Lynch would stay on as AG.

The former FBI director guessed wrong, taking his cue from the AG, and decided not to forward the result of his investigation to prosecutors, letting Hillary off the hook because he wanted to keep his job in the coming Clinton administration.

Obama guessed wrong, and for two years sat on warnings of intended Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and told the world (and the FBI) in a press conference that there was nothing for which to prosecute Hillary, certain all that would just go away when Hillary was elected.

    The mainstream media guessed wrong.

Trump won. The Obama administration went into full damage control mode, setting up an utterly bogus story of Trump collusion with the Russians, as a pre-emptive counter narrative for what they knew was coming when Trump got his hands on the Justice Department and Intelligence agencies, and facts began to get out.

“Unmasking” was the weapon of choice, trolling through intelligence for anything useful, and then leaking it as widely as possible. It was a team sport. Even the Obama UN ambassador was pressed into service, making an unprecedented request for 300 un-maskings.

GOP members of Congress guessed wrong. John McCain and Lindsay Graham were ready to play the “loyal opposition” to a Clinton White House in the pivot to Russia as the new existential threat to America; and Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan were all set for a bipartisan legislative agenda led by the “Grand Bargain,” peddled from Bill to Barack: balance the budget on the backs of Social Security and Medicare. Social indifference masquerading as fiscal responsibility.

They never dreamed they would actually be called to account for seven years of promises to repeal and replace Obamacare. Oops.

So here we are; the entire American establishment which has failed the American people for more than 30 years guessed wrong.

They keep guessing wrong, certain that if they can sufficiently vilify the president, peddle narratives of his failure and impugn his character and competence, they will survive until they get a more reliable, pliable future president.

Or at the very least, divert attention away from their deplorable failure and the collapse of middle class prosperity and security.

Mitch McConnell wonders aloud if the Trump Administration is not over, beyond repair. It’s amazing. Does McConnell actually think no one will notice if Congress cannot act. Can he really believe that, “The president hurt my feelings. Now, there’s just no way I can vote for a tax cut, or infrastructure, or salvage some kind of affordable health care program,” is going to cut it with the American people?

The Dems and GOP are fractured, but there is a Trump base that is very solid. It will only grow in the face of congressional failure and anti-Trump establishment hysteria. There is an election for Congress in 2018. Trump will not be on the ballot. But he may take sides, in a bipartisan sort of way. Are the parties over? Is there a new one emerging? The independent party of Trump?

    All things Confederate-ish must go
    • By DANA MILBANK

If something is worth doing in America, it's worth overdoing.

ESPN proved this eternal truth anew this week when it announced that, in response to the violence in Charlottesville, it was removing announcer Robert Lee from broadcasting the University of Virginia football game -- because he has the same name as the Confederate commander Robert E. Lee. ESPN's Lee is Asian-American.

Similar caution just led the University of Houston to change the name of its Calhoun Lofts dorm because it shares a name with the 19th-century vice president and white supremacist John C. Calhoun, even though, a university spokeswoman told the Houston Chronicle, "the residence hall was not named in recognition of John C. Calhoun" but a nearby street.

In Atlanta, likewise, protesters last week attempted to tear down that city's Peace Monument, apparently mistaking it for a Confederate shrine. The sculpture was erected to honor those who worked for reunification during Reconstruction.

The movement to remove Confederate monuments can be a healthy one, if done legally, according to the wishes of local citizens and in such a way that preserves this history without glorifying it. But from across this great land come reminders that nothing in America succeeds like excess.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a 90-day review of any statues on city property that could be "symbols of hate." New Yorkers are now taking aim at the Christopher Columbus statue in Columbus Circle and the tomb of Ulysses S. Grant.

Some object to the Theodore Roosevelt statue outside the Museum of Natural History, and others suggest the name "New York" itself may have to go because the Duke of York was a slave trader. New York chef Tom Colicchio dropped the name of his new restaurant because it was named after a building that was named after 19th-century publishers who had racist views.

There's a movement in Massachusetts to rename Boston's Faneuil Hall, cradle of the Revolution, because the 1742 structure was built by a slave trader and owner, Peter Faneuil.

Some may see this as a pell-mell rush to replicate George Orwell's "1984," in which "every statue and street and building has been renamed." But I don't think it goes far enough.

If we are to purge ourselves of Robert E. Lee (and ESPN's Robert Lee) we must avoid confusion by renaming or replacing all things with names similar to the Confederate general's: Bruce Lee, Tommy Lee, Spike Lee, Harper Lee, Bobby Lee, Lee jeans, Lee Majors and Lee Iacocca.

It won't do simply to rename schools named for the Confederate Gen. J.E.B. Stuart. We're going to have to rename Stuart Little, Stuart the Minion from "Despicable Me," Jon Stewart, Martha Stewart and Jeb Bush. All statues of Jubal Early must come down. So must all things that share names with this Confederate general: early-bird specials, early morning, early retirement, early voting and early NBA-draft entry.

If Confederate hero Nathan Bedford Forrest must go, so must the Redwood forest. Also the Gulf Stream waters. Fort A.P. Hill, an army base named for a Confederate general, must be renamed. So must Capitol Hill, Beacon Hill, Nob Hill, Bunker Hill, the Sugarhill Gang, Blueberry Hill, and Bill and Hill.

Let us dispense with Jefferson Davis, by all means -- but take with him Miles Davis, Sammy Davis Jr., Davis Love, the Davis Cup, the University of California at Davis, the Jefferson Hotel, Thomas Jefferson, George Jefferson, Louise "Weezy" Jefferson, Jefferson Pierce (Black Lightning) and especially Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, who also shares a name with Confederate Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard. Now that New Orleans has taken down its Beauregard statue, we're also going to have to relocate Bo Jackson, Bo Derek and Bo Diddley.

Memorials to Confederate Gen. Leonidas Polk cannot be moved without also erasing all trace of President James Polk, polka dances, polka dots, Hawaiian poke and Pokemon. Picket lines must be outlawed and picket fences flattened to avoid honoring Gen. George Pickett, and I will stonewall any attempt to disappear Gen. Thomas Jackson without also renaming Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Reggie Jackson, Percy Jackson, Action Jackson and Jackson Hole.

I regret to say we must also rename my Washington Post colleague Philip Rucker, who shares a name with (though is not related to) Confederate Gen. Edmund Rucker.

That's asking a lot of Phil, but we all must do our share. I will be demanding a new name for my public high school, Calhoun High School. It's not named for John C. but for Sanford H., a 20th-century New York school administrator who, to the best of my knowledge, did not own slaves. But you can't be too careful.

‘Racist, insensitive’: ‘Gone with the Wind’ film pulled from Tennessee theater
    RT

    Published on Aug 28, 2017
After targeting Confederate monuments, the split in U.S. society is now moving to the world of the big screen. A cinema in Memphis has stopped screening the 1939 classic 'Gone With The Wind'. The iconic film about love and the Civil War was accused of being racist and insensitive... by America's left-wing. Writer and comedian Jeffrey Mark Klein says the left is meddling with the past.

All this crap going on with statues and rioting is the left punishing the majority for rejecting their agenda and their candidate.
Wouldn't matter if it was that canadian ted cruz or any of the other 16 "republicans" that lost. This shit has been planned and funded for a couple decades at least. Our electing Trump pushed their hand to react now.

Honestly I think it's good, it was going to happen anyway let's get it over with now. They will continue to lose and throw tantrums all the way down. If they are lucky we won't be forced to shoot the fuck out of them. But lose they will.

Turning Point USA, founded by conservative activist Charlie Kirk, is an organization aimed at teaching students about “fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited governments.” Well, the president of the organization’s chapter at University of Nebraska-Lincoln received harassment as she recruited students on campus.

Worst part? PROFESSORS participated in the harassment.

According to chapter President Katie Mullen, at least three professors circled the table while carrying signs and yelling things like “f**k Charlie Kirk” and “TPUSA Nazis.”

Graduate teaching assistant Courtney Lawton was recorded yelling “Neo-fascist Becky right here. Wants to destroy public schools, public universities, hates DACA kids,” while giving the middle finger to the camera.

Associate Professor Amanda Gailey was pictured holding a sign that stated “Turning Point: please put me on your watchlist,” even signing her name to the impromptu appeal.

Mullen told Campus Reform that a university administrator eventually came out and told her she could not table because she was in a free speech zone. Campus police were called, however, and after assessing the situation they informed Mullen that she had the right to stay and table.

“I was honestly shocked and scared. I was there for a couple hours and had no real issues but a couple debates,” Mullen told Campus Reform. “They came with posters screaming profanities at me and people passing by.”

“I didn’t even engage, but I kept tabling as I wasn’t going to let them silence me,” she continued, but conceded that after a while, “I got overwhelmed and scared and started to cry,” at which point the professors “screamed [that] I was crying for attention.”

“It shocks me that these are professors that are supposed to teach and support students and they were bullying me,” she remarked.

Despite the furor, however, Mullen claims that her TPUSA chapter attracted 56 new sign-ups over the course of the day.

Way back in 2014, I urged everyone to run out and purchase a copy of Blazing Saddles, not just because it is awesome but because eventually the left will ban it, will do to the Mel Brooks masterpiece what has already been done to the Disney classic Song of the South — disappear it forever. Oh, how the Leftists pointed and laughed at my reactionary, rightwing fear-mongering.

    Restore sanity; remove Trump

We are, as a nation, faced with the prospect of surviving a president who is at best a reckless incompetent and who at worst may be emotionally unbalanced.

Elected representatives who enabled and even supported Donald Trumps election, by either their action or inaction, have put this nation at risk. History will remember them in this time of crisis, and will more certainly remember what they do next.

We have trusted each of them to show courage and leadership; not to cower in the background protecting their careers and interests while Trump unravels our republic and, in the kindest terms I can muster, soils the honor of our nation.

Indeed, we have become a laughingstock to our enemies and an embarrassment to our allies.

Though the startling gullibility of American voters is disturbing and our collective inability to see the truth behind the tyrant is a source of humiliation, we cannot effect change alone until the mid-term elections. And we will remember each of you -- the ones elected to protect us.

In the name of honor, democracy and the truth, reach across the aisle and demonstrate the kind of bipartisan support to which we have heard you all pay lip service during campaigns and elections.

Remove Donald Trump, his profoundly unqualified appointees and his family from the White House and restore sanity to our nation.

It does make one wonder how the right never managed to drum up so much vitriol while Obie was in office.

CNN Reporter Exits Bubble, Discovers Just How Much Texas Hates CNN

The bubble is real. The bubble explains so much. You need not live in DC or New York or Los Angeles to be bubbled. Out here in the wilds of North Carolina, you can still lose touch. Just stay online, watch cable news and monitor Twitter. This will completely warp your view of the way things really are.

I know this because it has happened to me. But never, not once, have I ever been so bubbled that I was unaware of just how much America freakin’ hates CNN. With that in mind, try to imagine just how out-of-touch CNN correspondent Nick Valencia is:

I just walked on the tarmac to cover @realDonaldTrump' visit to Corpus and was heckled by a crowd shouting derogatory things. Unbelievable.

    11:19 AM - Aug 29, 2017

*covers mouth to hold back burst of laughter* CNN dude is shocked to discover everyone hates CNN! *laughter bursts forth*

Awwww, is the little CNN snowflake gunna cry now?

What exactly did Valencia expect to find in, of all places, TEXAS?

Good heavens, he works for a hate network devoted to destroying everything most Texans stand for, live for, believe in and cherish: faith, family and freedom.

The last place-CNN has never even tried to disguise its unbridled hate for all things southern and Texan. CNN’s cultural supremacists are constantly smearing Christians and conservatives and southerners as backwards bigots. And everyone knows that the only reason CNN is even paying attention to a natural disaster in a Red State is in the hopes that the president they are hoping to oust through fake news will do something the leftwing network can turn into a “Katrina moment.”

Let me put it this way, Nick…

    Texans don’t hate CNN.

    Texans are hating CNN back.

    There’s a difference.

    You started it.

    You built that.

Nobody was paying us to act all offended and break stuff.
Besides we work for a living and weekends off work are better spent with friends and family. Marching around yelling shit is for losers.

Report: NBC Executives “Total Panic” People Won’t Watch Megyn Kelly Morning Show…
Posted on August 30, 2017 by sundance

Well, duh. Think about it. Most women don’t like her, except for her BFF Sheryl Sandberg, and most men can’t stand her, so who exactly is her target audience? It’s a little challenging to build an entire morning broadcast audience around people who don’t like you. The pending mega-fail is transparently predictable…
