    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowcat
    Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b...

A snowcat is an enclosed-cab, truck-sized, fully tracked vehicle designed to move on snow.

Snowcats used for snow grooming are also called 'piste machines', 'trail groomers' (in North American English) or 'piste bashers' (in British English) because of their use in preparing ski trails ("pistes") or snowmobile trails. Most snowcats, such as the ones produced by Bombardier or Aktiv in the past, have two sets of tracks, fitted with a Christie suspension or a Vickers suspension. Others, like the Tucker Sno-Cat and Hägglunds Bandvagn 206 vehicles, have a complex arrangement of four or more tracks.

The tracks are usually made of rubber, aluminum or steel and driven by a single sprocket on each side, and ride over rubber wheels with a solid foam interior. Their design is optimized for a snow surface, or soft grounds such as that of a peat bog. In addition to grooming snow they are used for polar expeditions, logging in marsh areas, leveling sugar beet piles, and seismic studies in the wild...

    History

The forerunners of the Snowcat were the tracked "motors" designed by Captain Scott and his engineer Reginald Skelton for the Antarctic Terra Nova Expedition of 1910-1913. These tracked motors were built by the Wolseley Tool and Motor Car Company in Birmingham. In the 1955-1958 Fuchs and Hillary Transantarctic Expedition, four modern snocats were used, produced by the Tucker Sno-Cat Corporation of Medford, Oregon. These vehicles were highly modified for the purposes of the expedition.

The name "snowcat" originates from the 1946 trademark by Tucker Sno-Cat Corporation. This specialized over-snow vehicle dominated the snow transportation market until the 1960s when other manufacturers entered the business. By then "snowcat" was such a common description that it was used to describe all over-snow vehicles (see generic trademark). Tucker is also well known for its use of four tracks on its vehicles. Tucker Sno-Cat is arguably the best known of the early manufacturers and remains in business today. Tucker Sno-Cats have been used by numerous military, governmental agencies and utilities.

Another early model was the Swedish made Aktiv Snow Trac of which 2265 were manufactured in Sweden between 1957 and 1981. NATO forces used the Snow Trac successfully during the cold war between NATO and the USSR. Numerous accounts from Antarctica related successful use of the Snow Trac by research organizations such as A.N.A.R.E. in Antarctica...

...Thiokol's Imp, Super-Imp and Spryte were popular dual-track snowcats and Thiokol's production continued under DMC and LMC. The Spryte, sold later as 1200 and 1500 series machines, are still popular in commercial and industrial use, nearly 20 years after the end of their production runs. Many of these models are still in use today in the commercial market and are popular as privately owned snowcats.

KRISTI snowcat had a limited production of two-track snowcats between 1956 and 1968 in Colorado; it never became popular and ceased production with fewer than 200 total units produced.

Aktiv Snow Trac ceased assembly in 1982 when its engine supplier (Volkswagen) ceased production of its air-cooled engines in Europe. Over 1000 Snow Tracs were imported to Canada and the USA, mostly by Canadian utilities and U.S. governmental agencies; the Snow Trac is still in common use in private ownership and to a lesser degree in commerce having produced over 2200 total machines which saw popular use all over the globe.

Bombardier still continues in business but has radically altered its business model and product selection and sold its snow grooming division and no longer makes commercial snowcats. Bombardier sold over 3000 of its popular snow bus models...

Russia as one of the snowiest countries in the world has a wide range of snowcats...

"How America's young college man spends a summer with the U.S. Army."

    "The Big Picture" episode TV-323.

Originally a public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied.
The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reserve_...
    Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b...

The Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) is a college-based program for training commissioned officers of the United States Armed Forces. ROTC officers serve in all branches of the U.S. armed forces (although the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Coast Guard do not have their own respective ROTC programs, graduates of ROTC programs do currently serve as Marine Corps and Coast Guard officers). In 2010, ROTC graduates constituted 38.5 percent of newly commissioned U.S. Army officers, 1.8 percent of newly commissioned U.S. Marine Corps officers (through NROTC), 16.7 percent of newly commissioned U.S. Navy officers, and 38.1 percent of newly commissioned U.S. Air Force officers, for a combined 30 percent of all active duty officers in the Department of Defense commissioned that year. Under ROTC, a student may receive a competitive, merit-based scholarship, covering all or part of college tuition, in return for an obligation of active military service after graduation.

The U.S. Coast Guard offers a similar program to ROTC under a different name: CSPI (College Student Pre-commissioning Initiative). In addition, although the U.S. Coast Guard does not have an ROTC program, direct commissions are available for ROTC students at select colleges and universities, for ROTC graduates transferring branches, as well as for qualified military pilots.

ROTC students attend college like other students, but also receive basic military training and officer training for their chosen branch of service through the ROTC unit at or nearby the college. The students participate in regular drills during the school year, and extended training activities during the summer. Some of the summer training that is offered to cadets in the Army ROTC program are: Airborne, Air Assault, Mountain Warfare, WHINSEC, and other related schools.

Army ROTC units are organized as brigades, battalions, and companies. Air Force ROTC units are detachments with the students organized into wings, groups, squadrons, and flights. Army and Air Force ROTC students are referred to as cadets. Navy ROTC units are organized as battalions, and also include NROTC students under "Marine Option" who will eventually be commissioned as officers in the Marine Corps. Marine NROTC students may be formed in a separate company when the program includes sufficient numbers. All Navy ROTC students are referred to as midshipmen...

The concept of ROTC in the United States began with the Morrill Act of 1862 which established the land-grant colleges. Part of the federal government's requirement for these schools was that they include military tactics as part of their curriculum, forming what became known as ROTC. The college from which ROTC originated is Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. Norwich was founded in 1819 at Norwich, Vermont, as the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy.

Until the 1960s, many major universities required compulsory ROTC for all of their male students. However, because of the protests that culminated in the opposition to U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, compulsory ROTC was dropped in favor of voluntary programs. In some places ROTC was expelled from campus altogether, although it was always possible to participate in off-campus ROTC...

Before a cadet goes through commissioning, he/she must pass LDAC between their summer of becoming a senior. LDAC (Leadership Developmental and Assessment Course) is held in FT. Lewis, Washington, where each cadet will be evaluated on leadership skills. The course is set up for a month of training with other peers and evaluated by prior servicemen.

Based upon the individuals OML will determine the options for commissioning and receiving Active Duty or Reserve Component. The higher the OML score the likelier a cadet will receive their desired position as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army...

This is a fantastic example of vintage Hollywood and the prestidigitation that the audience has always just been willing to accept. Just flat out escapism, adventure, entertainment. Deadliest Battle in History (History Documentary)
    #RelaxDoc's TV

    Published on May 19, 2017
Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 was the largest troop offensive in military history. And the Battle of Stalingrad is arguably the deadliest single battle the world has ever seen.
The eventual Russian victory has long been lauded as a shining example of Stalin’s military genius. He is said to have baited a much more powerful and technologically advanced German army with a carefully executed withdrawal, then caught the Nazis unprepared in vicious city-block-by-city-block fighting that decimated the German forces. By the time the battle was over, more than 1 million lives had been lost and the course of the war had been permanently altered. But 70 years after the battle was fought, newly uncovered documents, survivor accounts, and stunning archival footage are revealing a very different picture of what took place.

Private Military Contractor [PMC] Executive Outcomes
    Luptonga

    Published on Aug 2, 2011
Executive Outcomes were one of the most well-organized and well-known Private Military Contractors that operated up until the late 1990s. Drawn mostly from the apartheid era Afrikaner ruled South African Army & Rhodesian Army after it became Zimbabwe, they played a major role in suppressing many a rebellions at the behest of autocratic African rulers & crisis situations elsewhere. They have also been accused of committing gross human rights violations or at least not giving to due regards to the concerns of human rights in their area of operation, though no prosecution has taken place against them.

The U.S military awards contracts worth billions of dollars each year to such Private Military Contractors to operate in conflict areas like Pakistan, Afghanistan etc., performing peripheral & support duties, that would otherwise have to be performed by the regular soldiers of the U.S. Military. In this way, U.S is able to show lowered number of troops in these conflict zones.

HEAT - The Real Neil McCauley and the Making of Heat Film (1995) Documentary
    Organized Crime Channel

    Published on Aug 25, 2017
The Making of Heat (1995) Film Documentary The Real Neil McCauley and the Making of Micahel Mann's Heat Movie (1995) Documentary.

Heat is a American crime film written, produced and directed by Michael Mann in released in 1995. The Main Actors were Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Val Kilmer. De Niro plays Neil McCauley, a professional thief, while Pacino plays Lt. Vincent Hanna, a LAPD robbery-homicide detective tracking down McCauley's crew. The story is based on the former Chicago police officer Chuck Adamson's pursuit during the 1960s of the real life criminal named McCauley, after whom De Niro's character is named after.

Thought to be one of the best crime heist movies ever made it was a commercial and critical success on every level grossing over $295 Million as of 2017..

Heat is based on the true story of a real life gangster Neil McCauley, a calculating criminal and ex-Alcatraz inmate who was tracked down by Detective Chuck Adamson in 1964. Neil McCauley was raised in Wisconsin where his father worked as steam fitter to provide his family with a middle-class life. The normalcy of Neil's youth faded following the adoption of another child and his father's death in 1928. At 14, he quit school to find work to support his mother and five siblings. The McCauleys soon relocated to Chicago. In Chicago, McCauley began his criminal career after his mother began drinking heavily. By the time he was 20, he had already done three stints in county jail for larceny.

In 1961, McCauley was transferred from Alcatraz to McNeil, as mentioned in the film, and he was released in 1962. Upon his release, he immediately began planning new heists. With ex-cons Michael Parille and William Pinkerton they used bolt cutters and drills to burglarize a manufacturing company of diamond drill bits, a scene which is closely recreated in the film. Detective Chuck Adamson, upon whom Al Pacino's character is largely based, began keeping tabs on McCauley’s crew around this time, knowing that he had become active again. The two even met for coffee once, just as portrayed in the film. Their dialogue in the script was almost exactly word for word the conversation that McCauley and Adamson had. The next time the two would meet, guns would be drawn, just as the movie portrays.

On March 25, 1964, McCauley and members of his regular crew followed an armored car that delivered money to a Chicago grocery store. Once the drop was made, three of the robbers entered the store. They threatened the clerks and stole money bags worth $10,000 before they sped off amid a hail of police gunfire.

McCauley's crew was unaware that Adamson and eight other detectives had blocked off all potential exits, and when the getaway car turned down an alley and the bandits saw the blockade, they realized they were trapped. All four suspects exited the vehicle and began firing. Two of his crew, men named Breaden and Parille, were slain in an alley while a third man, Polesti (on whom Chris Shiherlis is very loosely based), shot his way out and escaped. McCauley was shot to death on the lawn of a nearby home. He was 50 years old and the prime suspect in several burglaries.Polesti was caught days later and sent to prison. As of 2011 Polesti was still alive.

Adamson went on to a successful career as a television and film producer, and died in 2008 at age 71. Michael Mann's 2009 film Public Enemies stated in its end credits "In memory of Chuck Adamson". As an additional inspiration for Hanna, in an 1995 interview Mann cited an unnamed man working internationally against drug cartels.

Additionally, the character of Nate, played by Jon Voight, is closely based on real-life former career criminal and fence turned writer Edward Bunker, who served as a consultant to Mann on the film.

The East Coast La Cosa Nostra Busted by Authorities shows that the American Mafia in todays society is alive and well raking in Millions as usual.

New York federal prosecutors have unveiled an indictment charging nearly four dozen suspects of operating a massive East Coast syndicate. On Thursday Prosecutors announced that the 46 defendants had committed crimes ranging from extortion to illegal gambling, in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Florida. Onetime Philadelphia crime don Joey Merlino headed up the enterprise — which was mostly based out of New York. Members of the Bonanno, Gambino, Genovese, Luchese and Philadelphia mob families were also among those named in the indictment. It is unclear how many of those charged are in custody, but the indictment does not appear to be connected to the recent arrest of the 23-year-old grandson of the late Gambino crime boss John Gotti. More details are expected later this week.

Greene pushed into Cleveland rackets and began competing with the Italian-American Mafia for control of the city. He set up his own group called the Celtic Club, complete with enforcers.

    Why I left the Legion.
    Littlest.Viking

    Published on Aug 1, 2017
DISCLAIMER (read before making any rash remarks):

This video is entirely my opinion and interpretation of how i perceived the legion, in comparison with past military experiences. I met some guys who did love the legion, they were in 1REC. Legionnaires in 1REC seem to be the happiest, there is quite a large English Mafia there. 1REC was the Regiment i requested. The slavs do love 2REP though.

Some of you seem to think I am completely putting down the military life, this is not true. I understand how you feel about your achievements as i have my own within the CF. My expectations ended up being far too high. I was given the impression the Foreign Legion was something it was not, this is no one's fault but mine. I have all the respect in the world for those who choose the military life. The legion is great for those less fortunate. It was by no means too hard or too easy, I just felt my place was elsewhere now.

NOT ALL of the leadership is completely "****ed" either, just many, especially in 4RE. Power tripping galore without purpose. There are some checked out dudes though who i respect.

When i requested to leave, they offered me a 4 month "thinking" period if i were to return in, I could go straight to regiment. If I return after the 4 months I must redo the training in Castel. Others who left with me were given no such deal. Some can never return.

I am in touch with a few guys back in the legion still and have heard our section in Castel was one of the worst and some of the worst leadership as well. My experience may greatly differ from yours. luck of the draw, but I felt no urge to stick around.

I have stated my reasons for leaving in the video but i will also add that since i do come from Canada, i can make considerably more money here than what the legion has to offer. And as much I hate it, cash is king.

Quoted from the Caporal-Chef in charge of my "going civil group":
    "the smart ones always leave."

The film follows Scanlan in prison and his interaction with prisoners, staff, and family. The Interviews reveal him as a likable, flamboyant, pathetic, young man moving toward his own destruction. A classic study of juvenile delinquency, by director Eric Camiel for the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Prisons.

“Shotgun Joe” became “Joey Onions” Scanlon and was later shot and killed in a 1982 New England mob hit. The guy who killed him confessed on his deathbed and Scanlon’s remains were found in 2009.
