I went and looked and accepted a fun adc job yesterday.

A farmer is selling bird hunts. He has quail and pheasants in flight pens, as well as native birds on his property. He has installed lots of habitat enhancements, tree rows, food plots, cement rubble piles, tree piles etc. He wants me to kill the ground nest robbers, and the bobcats. There is lots of sign.

target animals

skunks
coons
badger
red fox
swift fox
bobcat

I will be caging everything. I am excited to do this job. It will be a nice change of pace from trapping/skinning coyotes.

I am charging the guy 1k a week, and a tank of fuel. He is ok with that. Its a 20 mile drive one way, in the itty bitty s-10. I have no idea how to price jobs, but feel like i did ok. After setup I think checking will take less than 2 hrs a day, plus drive time.

What a life!
Getting paid well to do what you love!
Lucky you.

I set it up today.

First thing I did was walk the property, looking for kills and feeding locations, rodents including rabbits, and live wild birds. The brush piles seems to be where all the action is happening, coveys of quail there, some places where fox and cats have ate birds, lots of scat and feathers. I set those places up, inedible bird parts, castor lure from boone and nates bait in cages, and feathers around the traps for visual attractant.

The skunks and coons are coming out of the brush piles as well. I found the trails and set where they come out, and their destinations, avoiding travel routes for lack of gear. I wish I could run dp's, but its not in the cards.

I picked up a few buckets of bird guts and scrap, and cleaned/raked up what was out in the open to reduce the feed source outside cages, and put them in 1 qt coffee cans (plastic) w water to make shit-cicles. Its backup to throw in cages if what I did today doesnt work. I also took a broom and smoothed out all the trails, so I can see new sign as it shows itself.

I am looking to hit it hard and get it done by first of the year, as I have 2 more state sanctioned coyote jobs coming up. Both are right past this place, so I can run there as long as need be.

It ought to be interesting, I dont have much experience with this type of trapping.

It looks like the coyote harvest is low this season due to weather. The coyotes are also breaking early. I am trying to get to the bottom of this, but everyone is tight lipped.

It could be a banner year if furs are marketed correctly.

Sold fur thursday for a 68 avg. canada goose did a conference call yesterday morning, with anticipated loses this upcoming year. talked to a large buyer today, when asked about the markets, he said cut your avg in half.

That was a close call. there will be alot less fur buyers next yr. one large nebraska outfit is asking sellers to hold their checks.

Wow ! Ya'll got some real honorable trappers working with that outfitter.
I'd have RAN to the bank to liquidate that piece of paper.
I wonder how the outfitter would have taken it if trappers were coming in short on hides they had contracted for ?

There is very little contract work, this outfit is a country buyer, going town to town buying fur from trappers.

I bought 17 bobcats yesterday, frozen carcass cats, tagged by the state, for 35 apiece. The bobcat fur market is in the toilet, I ought to have paid thrice as much. I will skinning them and roll up and vac seal the hides, and put them in deep storage. they will last 5-7 years, til they need dried and stretched.

A bit of a speculative move, but they were cheap. And there is more around if I want em.

Now that the March sale has been postponed I called a fur buyer who had an ad in a local rag. He had said in ad he was paying up to $100Can, when I called him this morning he said he wasn't buying nothing. The paper was 2 days old so quite a change in those days.

Yes they can be stored. I have about 15 coyotes and a few bobcats that I will put away for next yr.

Once the fur is stetched and dried, it can be bagged and sealed, then stored in an unplugged chest freezer, to protect from insect damage.

This kid has talent. He takes rescue minks and turns them into well trained rat and muskrat exterminators. In this episode of uses them with this dog on a mission paid for by the canal company as the muskrats were causing damage. Check out the dog carrying the box in the beginning.

God made coyotes for a reason, a few of them are fine.

If you start to see them on a regular basis, then its time to thin the herd. Feral cats same deal.

They have quite a proclivity to reproduce when they have a good food source, and in a few years can get out of hand.

To everyone's detriment.

Folk as well manage their pets poorly, and add to the problem.

There is reprecussions to these events/mind sets that have to be addressed, often in a very direct manner.

Wildlife management it a very real thing, from the bear in your dining room that came thru the sliding doors, to the coyotes eating all your daughters show lambs, and everything in between.

Admittedly, we are a rural type of folk.

Problem, reaction, solution.

I didnt make up the story, but I prefer a .32 revolver.

Kill it, get paid by Colorado dept wildlife and move on. Check will be in the mail.

I killed 3 bears with 2 .32 handguns at cornwall last fall, $3200. I was fairly drunk.

Thank you jerod Pole-Ass, and Marlin Rees 2. Fucking queers.

I unloaded on those fucks like dirty harry, house breakers. All the pheasant cops stood back, didnt want to mess up their new haircuts.

When they called me I was doing a beaver flood job on the arkansas river e of pueblo, they stood round for 3 hours til I got there.

I told em boys, I think I got in handled, they had to load up the carcasses, and get em skint fo the sale first of feb up in Hugo.

Pay dirt. Thats my utilities for 4 months, all my property is paid for, because I hang out with you hard cases.

Something is a mess, and its not me. I killed em in my waders.

They've have been doin' this of years. We had posts of their videos. Ever since the little girl could barely walk and you would hear her getting all excited as the mink(s) worked. The dog came later.
You are correct they are good videos.
