It looks like well stick our toe in the pool, and take the fur markets vitals tomorrow. Im pulling the first 15 yote hides we skint from the cold storage barn today, and cleaning em up for an inspection, and possible sale tomorrow. After many phone calls, and as many opinions, its time to cut thru the bullshit and see what yotes are going to bring this season.

Just got back from meeting w the buyer. Avg of $63 on 15 coyotes. I ended up taking the first 5, the middle 5, and the last 5 yotes I put up. I think that gives me a pretty good avg to work with.
According to the prices I posted up the other day you're getting top dollar. Well done.

The prices you posted the other day are for Oklahoma coyotes. They are about as similiar to my coyotes (theyre not) as mine are to pits. I am happy with what I got, it was just a small sampling to test the market. I still have 371 coyotes left to sell. Out of those 15 I had 2 that brought 90, which is unheard of for this area.

@ bro pit, and here we go cleaning up the stink. I told my yote shooters well take dogs for another 10 days. I had shut em down Friday.

it is against my religion, all the green belly. I done it, its going to go stinkingly, them spring coyotes. Ill take another hundred I guess.

I still have 20 frn bills, folk are still shooting coyotes.

There are guys up here still chasing the dogs but the hides are plain just not as good as they were. Kinda/sorta like me old lumber jacket that starts out new but every time I push through a bush a few threads get pulled, it gets a rip here then a rip there, maybe a burn spot or three that all add up to a comfortable coat that looks like shit[to others]. Everytime a coyote lays down for a rest a few hairs stick to the ice and when it goes through a barbwire fence it leaves traces behind.
As a shooter I'd be ecstatic to have someone who would buy my pelts of late season dogs cause it may help recoup a little gas money. As far as the stink goes, it goes away. I know when I put my sprayers to bed for the winter I absolutely hate bringing them out for a couple more jobs but it's been done just cause it's what we do.
Hope you get 3 $20's back for everyone you put out man.

Everything I saw was in the $2500.00 category. Seems it would be far cheaper to search for a seamstress and supply the pelts and lining material. JMO

I suppose it could be cheaper to trap/snare/run over/shoot enough coyotes for a coat, but in order to get good consistent hides of like fur and color you would need to spend a lot of time. I looked into it once and they wanted 11 quality furs and then they needed some extra's for finish work as well. So let's say 13 coyotes at 150 per comes to almost 2 grand and the damb things ain't done anything to look like a coat yet.
I had an old injun lady who bought a few coyotes from me for a few years who made mitts outta them for folk further North than me by a bunch. She only bought my best and I had a friend who tanned them with brain tanning process. She said she sold them as being made traditionally and I asked why she never got her kinfolk to get the hides. Her reply made laugh my ass off as she said,"Them lazy SOB's can't even figure out twist off bottle caps".

I hope to be able to find a fur sewing machine in the next few years. Id like to use my by-catch, coons, swifties, badgers, etc to make hats and such. It sure would beat giving em away at auction, coons at avg 6-8 frn, swifties at 12ish. A good coon skin hat will bring 100 frn.

Do the bullet holes need to be stitched closed to sell the pelt or do they reduce the offer for pelts with bullet holes ?

I'll try and handle this a Coop can fix up anything I screw up[Backup isn't something I'm used to and I'm liking it].
When you stretch a hide the whole thing becomes tight and if there is a bullet hole[any fuck up holes] that spot won't have the tight drum look which means there will be a space where there is no fur. How many folk wanna run around with a holey jacket. The sewing insures the fur will be together along the length/width of the fur. You see dry buckskin doesn't stretch back to it's original shape well. A small entry hole doesn't require sewing but the ones where you have a one inch or much bigger require pulling the hide back together for drying. I've sewed up some holes that I thought were far to big only to get a fair price for my time. This is the reason we want fur friendly ammo for coyote hunting. Worst I saw was a 270 with a bronze tip that blew a freaking coyote into front end and rear end pieces, I mean completely cut in half. I did not try to salvage that hide for my buddy but we sure laughed about it.

Way I took it was IF I was going to use the pelts then I should close the holes....BUT these pelt purchasers are not accessing from me for their own use. These pelts go into or unto some one who is the "Devil wears Proda!"

NO shitting boys; they might be looking for bellies off of coons one day and tips of a fox's tail the same. Stich and sock.

There is holes, then there is 'HOLES'. After youve sewn a few youll know if you can put it back together or not. It is a dicey game.

How much time you got? I can smoke a joint and sew all day, is it worth it, its a personal question.

Whip stitch anyone?

Coyotes did poorly at the NAFA sale yesterday in Toronto. I am glad I sold before this happened. Maybe the coyote price/buying frenzy is over? If I had sold at NAFA I would have lost thousands of dollars. I wonder how many buyers who ship to NAFA lost their asses? Might be ([probably) fewer country buyers than last year.

Until the end of season, you never know if you marketed your fur correctly or not. it looks like I did great! The state sale prices blew eway the NAFA (international) market sale prices. There is a group of people who bought, then resold and lost the farm.
