I saw no evidence of this, nor was I advised of any private insurance, so that is idle speculation at best.
They don't show evidence, nor do they advise customers about it, although if you called them up and asked they'd probably explain it to you. Something that is extremely likely to be true is idle speculation? You are a clown.

If anyone is making idle speculation its you, suggesting that Apmex wouldn't cover your loss if the package was lost in transit, whether it be private insurance or if they just self-insure their shipments.

I stand by my assessment that without citing the below material from APMEX' webpage, your posts were idle speculation. Please improve the quality of your posts in the future.

Is my package insured while in transit?

American Precious Metals Exchange fully insures all of its shipments. Should anything happen while your package is in transit to you it will be covered by our insurance policy. However, we will not accept responsibility if you have left instructions with any carriers or delivery service to leave parcels un-attended for you without the need for a signature. Or, you have given them instructions to leave your package with someone else such as a building manager, neighbor, drop-off location such as Mail Boxes etc. The UPS Store, etc. When we ship to you, if metals are lost or damaged in transit, it is our responsibility to pursue any claim with the insurance company. If we determine the package is lost or damaged, we file a claim. We reserve the right to re-ship your items or refund your money at our discretion.

You are the one with the "strong suspicion" that they have third party insurance while failing to cite evidence. Take your idle speculation elsewhere.
What major precious metals company uses USPS insurance or informs their customers of their private insurance without a request to do so?

It's also "idle speculation" that it was APMEX who lost your check. It gets handled by the USPS a lot more than APMEX. I can tell you 100% that every item that gets shipped Priority mail, is now automatically insured for $50. I have insured packages up to $500, and it won't show this anywhere. I'm the only person that knows how much I insured it for.

What kind of a stupid question is that? APMEX does; the above quoted material was on their web page.

Common sense and an understanding of the precious metals markets is not idle speculation. Nor am I going to do the homework for a poster as arrogant as yourself.

Citing evidence to bolster one's argument is not "homework". If you are unwilling to do this and instead resort to red herrings, then perhaps you are out of your league, and would do well to educate yourself.

Says the guy who didn't do any research, claiming "Had my order gone missing, I would have had no recourse as a result of their parsimonious nonsense." Then has to retract his statement less than an hour later. :bear_laugh:

Do not change the subject. If you are arguing that they in fact had third-party insurance, it is you who carries the burden of proof, therefore the research is to be done on your end. Alternately, you could have not posted, and given the poor quality of your posts, that would have been preferable.

I thinks apmex has private security gremlins following their packages. Once those suckers hit the mail they are in my hands a day later and spotless. Like white glove clean. Kinda eerie really but no worries. :afraid:

He fails to understand that the insurance protects the shipper and not the consignee. He is protected by the legal obligation of the consignor to deliver according to the terms of the purchase contract.

Yeah it's scary how fast they arrive, after leaving APMEX. I'm sure they also have some secret formula super glue, that sticks the padded envelope to the box. That things a bear to get off.

Great Customer Service, packaging is A+, I think it has been mentioned that the popcorn is a nice treat at Christmas...but you MUST add shipping and CC charges to your average $/oz., especially on smaller orders because it does have an impact on your bottom line.

If you can wait the ten days for checks or money orders to clear (or use bank transfer on larger orders), that's the way to go.

Aside from those minor inconveniences, the best online PM dealer in my opinion.
Popcorn?! I just started with APMEX in Nov. - Spent around $6500 with them so far, I hope I get some popcorn, lol.

1000g silver bar came in today. Just as pretty as in the pictures, and it came with my free "gold" USB drive. (I do not know what GB size the drive is, I ordered because it was free shipping day).

As always, Michael and his crew are SUPER fast, keep me posted on my orders, and are just good guys all around. I rated APMEX as 5 star. I know I am new in the "game" of PM's, but so far, I have yet to value their business below a 5. Absolutely top notch.

One last thing - is once you deal with APMEX, your items get placed in a "HOLDINGS" section in their website. So you know in real time what your goods are worth. I like that, well.. when the market favors us :)

I've ordered from them a few times a year over the last 5 years or or so, never had any problem with them. You do have to wait until your check clears to get the best price, but who cares since I am all for cutting out the banksters.

I've had nothing but fantastic service from APMEX. Always deliver in a timely fashion, and only list what they have on hand. Not always the cheapest, but IMO the safest. Also check out there eBay store. They don't have the credit card charges, and sometimes it's cheaper to buy from there eBay store.

APMEX is the leader as far as I am concerned. I just started purchasing PM, but I have purchased from several sites. They have the largest selection and competitive pricing and their shipping costs have improved. I have had no problems so far and I would highly recommend them. Their customer service is great as well. If you can find a great deal on their eBay listings, you will get your item quicker and be able to pay with CC, but those are rare.

I ordered from them 6 times (none very large) in 2013, the latest in December. Four of the orders were paid by CC or bank wire, three orders were shipped within one business day of the order and the other on the second business day. Two of the 2013 orders were paid by check and both shipped one week (on the nose) after they received the check.

Consistency is good.

Ordered from APMEX on 1/29 and had the goods in hand on 1/31. That is the kind of wait I can handle!

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I placed my first order with Apmex and was very impressed.

Order the 27th, wired the 28th, shipped the 29th.

The website shows exactly where the order is at each stage of the process and I was very confident all was well.

Packaging was first rate, innocuous, and contents well protected.

Love the goods - uncirculated perfect!

I've got a great offsite storage plan and am quite happy to be getting started. I'm not a big time buyer like some of you guys here but at least I'm getting started.

slv, hard to believe.......

I went back and checked my order history to give the new a heads up, but to date, every order was by check, every order shipped either before or dead on the date of 'expected ship date'.

As for the ebay, yep, thanks to the guys for turning me on to that,

last one was 22.49 for Eagles shipped, same thing now is 25.06 cc + shipping, with silver only 50ct less than now

They moved over 100K Eagles in 24 hours,

They know how to move metal, and know their purpose, ie not to speculate.

What I like about Apmex is, they list the exact quantity they have in stock. Unlike other dealers, you can put 9000 items in your cart, but with APMEX they let you know what they have on hand. No funny business selling metal they don't have, or are waiting on.

Just completed my third purchase from APMEX. All 3 went w/o a hitch. All were paid by check. The order shipped one week exactly after my check arrived each time. They may average out to be a few bucks more expensive than other sites, but the service and selection of coins is unequaled.

received a pkg off the ebay order that was short a tube of Eagles,

called and told them to check the vids, as it also came without a packing slip,

she said they would notify me by email in 24-48 hrs

edit to add:
first email received within 2 hours, asking the typical questions.
returned email answering the questions

couple of hours later I took pics of the packaging, and sent those off also.

I've actually began recording opening my packages. The first time I did,I mistakenly thought I was shorted. Couldn't believe my prescient evidence. But checked my billing to the invoice and I was mistaken. Still like to video opening the packets tho.

You can't get there from here.
I am and have been impressed with the ebay operation. Great deals and better service. Got to say I have been using the "P" company a lot less because of APMEX great ebay deals.

I am a registered dealer with them. They are the only bullion or numismatic company to ask for my SS#. I don't doubt they have good staff, but there is always another side to the story easily found through google, etc.. They seem extra eager to snap up deals where they will make a profit like a set of proof Pandas I had, their offers were considerably less than actual market. Also I have bought numismatic coins uncertified from them that are overgraded to say the least. If you stick with precious metals you probably will not be burned though I have heard hard core buyers and sellers say there are better buy/sell spreads out there. Do your DD.

I received my second order from Apmex today. I ordered a roll of 2014 ASEs. They look great and Apmex shipped my order quickly after receiving my payment (paid by check). I really am impressed with how nice those Eagles look. I sure hope that the SHTF doesn't happen anytime soon. It would be a shame to have to part with any of these Eagles. I guess I forgot how impressive they are to look at and hold in your hand! I will be ordering from Apmex again.

I'm a Platinum level customer with Apmex, averaging little less than 3 grand a month (silver) with Apmex since last July. I could kick my self for not finding them sooner. I first started using them in April 09, learned of them thru GIM. This of course after I'd already made a huge purchase from someone else.

I've referred numerous colleagues to them. I won't use anyone else.

I gave them 5 stars.

I have placed nine orders since December with APMEX, the last one being today. I am small-fry, always buying less than $1k at a time, as I dollar-cost average on a regular basis. That said, the time between order and shipment is fast, the packaging is bulletproof, and the coins are better than described. The selection is better than anywhere else I can find, and the premiums better than my local dealer.

Received some Libertads and the newest ATB from Apmex. It was free shipping and an unusually good price on Libertads. Was a bit set back when they tagged my postal money order as simply a 'check' and stated it would be held 5-10 days. That must just be a formality because they processed the order the day after getting my payment. Very good packaging again.

I had a few items in my cart last night, today after the drop I check my cart to see that they cost more than they did last night. Apmex bumps up prices on drops.
