Not sure how accurate they can get. Certainly not down to the year but probably 12,000 years ago plus or minus 100 years or so???
Looking at the list of Heinrich events they aren't all at 12,000 year intervals exactly an I suspect the further back we go the less reliable the dating is. Go back 2 or 3 events and it's probably plus or minus 500-1000 years. Still, overall, the 12,000 year cycle lines up pretty well. I think the magnetic excursion is only a part of it. The weakening magnetic field is also a part of it and that weakening is accelerating.

Cl. do you really believe we can look back 12,000 years with any accuracy at all? I do not ! :gracious::finished:
Politicians, medicine, historians, & science has been lying to us for hundreds of years.

I have used a magnetic compass, out 60/70 miles in the ocean, for 50 years & I have not seen anything but the normal magnetic variation, of about a quarter of a degree per year. That is 1 degree for 4 years, so in 91 years we would have had a 100% pole reversal, NOT !!!
TAEZZ --

Your data are correct. But you are sorta using it wrong: You are taking the variance change rate you saw in the past, and applying it to our future.

The problem is that the change rate has increased by a lot. The "car" is going faster, so your careful calculation of how long it will take to "get there" comes out with a much larger number than now predicted.

Old post, older reply :2 thumbs up:
THAT is not good. I was taught, 70 years ago, by my dad, to back the tick out with the cigarette, as you later did. Thus removing the entire body without a chance of Lymes.
Just a heads up for next time.
That is how we got leaches to drop off after we'd been seining for bait fish and crawdads. Always checked your ankles and between your toes.

The good thing about Earth Cycles are the are long by centuries. Most of us won't be around by the time they figure it is here.
IDK, 12.000 years must not be very long. They have data from back then.:beer::beer:

THAT, I believe. :2 thumbs up::2 thumbs up::2 thumbs up:
BTW Gb, I believe in them, I just think we can't predict them with ANY accuracy.

AND remember we were severely lied to, about the 1/2 life of Uranium & the "Bomb".
Nagasaki, Hiroshima & Chernobyl are alive & well !!!!!!!!!!! :gracious:

Doesn't matter politically, but the tropical plant fossils found in Antarctica should give a slight pause to the most virulent opponent to the concept that the magnetic poles can shift.

This does not in any way verify the 12K cycle stuff, BTW. If changes like those proposed occurred every 12K years or so, it would have wiped out evolution of life as we know it.

My unscientific guess that will satisfy both sides: There IS a cycle approximating the one espoused. The poles DO shift as recorded. And then... the poles begin their trek back the way they came. It all balances out, and everybody is right. It is just a wobble.

Methinks that global climate catastrophes can - and have- happened in a matter of minutes...

Green food in the jaws of mammoths in the permafrost... Flash frozen (huge body mass)... and not torn up by predators or decomposition...

That's FAST...

and not very long ago...

Pole shift, or continental drift?

And I'm not convinced that pole-shifting is a Thing, either.

Not really sure it matters, except that it feeds the Doom Porn aficionados...

You can distract some people from real problems (government debt; fiat money; illegal alien invasion; the Deep State) by giving them fantasy problems to worry about (Ray Sissm, Glow Bull Warming, 57 Genders; Pole Shift...)

I don't believe in the continental drift theory.

I'm more partial to the Expanding Earth theory...
That make more sense from my own personal experience. Especially evident after class reunions.

Pole shift, or continental drift?
Science can measure both and record their movements.
Personally, I believe there have been times when the Continental Drift has become a Crustal Slip. Most of the theoretical occurrence maps indicate a Crustal Slip not a drift. One map shows North America side ways and beneath the equator. That would explain how mammoths have been found with vegetation in their mouth and system undigested and the mammoth and plant material appear flash frozen.
Anyway it occurs I like my location West , but close to the Appalachians.
If I have to deal with it.

I used to get excited and see dollar signs when I saw a snowy forecast. Now my back hurts just reading that title.
You made money on snow?

What, did you plow snow? Get overtime with the highway department? Thaw people's pipes?

Shovel roofs and driveways. Deep freezes would get the frozen pipes. They'd crack with the sound of a gunshot but it would take awhile before they would leak. Once they thawed, water would flow.

Oh hell yeah. Me and my brothers made better money shoveling side walks, driveways, and cars out than any grass cutting jobs in the Spring Summer and Fall. Not only got paid but most of the neighborhood moms would have cookies and hot chocolate ready for us even when we were not done yet ( sympathy pay-offs). We'd never tell them we would be out playing in the snow anyway. The money and treats were bonuses, and saved our mom from fixing lunches.

That's how I saved up for my J.C. Higgins .22 Single Shot $11.95 plus .47c for a box ol LR at Sears Roebuck &Co. back before they had murdered Roebuck.

I've still got my 7-shot Sears & Roebuck bolt action from the early 70's. Had it refurbished two years ago ( By Accident).
I took the bolt out to clean the barrel and could not get the damn thing back in. Afraid to force it as the rifle is so old, and the JC Higgins models of the time had slight differences so I could not rely of their schematics that I could find.
Still a beauty. AFAIC

One summer back in school, we had a company called LP Maintenance. We'd mow, clean up yards or what ever. The LP stood for Leisure Pace and we were odd men for odd jobs. Not that we would tell our clients that.

We might have 10-15 years to prepare. Or it might be less than 5.

Been thinking about this a lot. I am at the upper end of the Mississippi River valley. It will be a natural course for the tsunami to flow.

It looks like the inertial direction of the tsunami might be in a line from Florida to Lake Michigan (as Greenland goes to the equator and Brazil becomes the new South Pole). This means that the East Coast will be scrubbed clean by the Atlantic (perhaps halted by the Smokies), and the Gulf Coast will be completely swamped by the Gulf water (reinforced by whatever Pacific water washes over Central America).

Due to the flat nature of the central plains states I would expect the tsunami to quickly decrease in amplitude as it spreads in breadth, but because the tilt will be nearly 90 degrees (and sudden) I expect the waters to push up to the Great Lakes.

My house is in a valley, but the ridge behind is 1250 feet above sea level. The nearby Mississippi has an elevation of 635 feet. So the tsunami would need to be 600 feet high when it reaches me in order to top all of the regional land. I feel pretty confident that this is highly unlikely.

If I was to relocate in anticipation of this catastrophe I would look at Rapid City SD as being an ideal location.

In reality, first it will be necessary to survive the EMP blackout (25% probability in the next 5 years, and a certainty before the poles flip). And it might be years between the blackout and the pole reversal.

Fortunately, the US looks to occupy a habitable region of the globe following the flip, albeit in the Southern Hemisphere and closer to the equator. I would hate to be learning about this if I lived in Brazil.

Additionally, I have no idea how to prep for surviving the aftermath. It will be essential to quickly reestablish agriculture, but will the seasons permit this? Will the atmosphere accomodate?
