My parents were adamantly opposed to my shooting guns, but I used to scour through the field and stream magazines at the barber shop and I would order catalogues; Charter Arms was the first catalogue I ever received in the mail, but I never bought one.

My first gun was an inherited Colt .22 WRF Police Special with one box of obsolete ammo; the only gun I ever received rom my grandfather's massive collection which my parents liquidated for pennies on the dollar. It took me 4 years to find more .22 WRF ammo. Meanwhile, I quit college, joined the Army and volunteered to shoot everything and anything I could get my hands on, became an assistant armorer, and by the time I was an E-5, I was running the range for my MP battalion.

I still have a fondness for the M60 machinegun.

And I still love my parents and even tell them frequently.
