I caught a couple sermons today with the usual Christmas/nativity Bible readings. Pastors point out that there were no grandparents present at the birth, none of the very expensive support teams or even midwives you see today especially with the higher end affluent people. On that score the Exodus verse is interesting: "And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them. " So why are Christians so pampered in comparison and lacking top notch survival skills from youth to death if they are supposedly "God's people"?

Another thing that jumped out in the Bible narrative was this one: "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." (Micah 5:2) It wasn't important for Jesus to be born in an impressive place but it was for him to be born in the right place, not Nazareth or fleeing from Herod, etc..

Other things that would be controversial from the standpoint of the repressed and frankly inhuman Catholic teaching that Mary was forever virgin, never had sex, Joseph also and that Mary was also conceived supernaturally and finally ascended into heaven. Makes no sense and frankly sets up an impossible and unattainable standard of people that are suppose to be spartans, wearing the hairshirts of ridiculously limiting self-denial and trust in the priests as if they were God's very special agents, as we have seen is far from the case.
