MMP fifth generation land combat missile system - MBDA
DefenseWebTV

Published on Mar 19, 2018
MMP is the latest (fifth) generation land combat missile system designed for dismounted infantry as well as for integration on combat vehicles.

Featuring both fire-and-forget and man-in-the-loop operation, network-enabled MMP also receives third party target designation for indirect firing scenarios.

MMP is fitted with a Multi Purpose Warhead with excellent “weight over efficiency” ratio. The high penetration of MMP tandem warhead allows destruction of all target set including modern MBT overprotected with latest generation ERA.

MMP will replace the Milan and Javelin anti-tank missiles in service with the French Army and special forces from 2017. Taking into account the battle experience gained from recent conflicts in which the French Army has been engaged, MMP is a response to the demands that have been expressed in terms of required capabilities: firing from confined spaces, “fire-and-forget”, and self-guidance with a “man-in-the-loop” facility.

"The Big Picture" TV series, Season 1, Episode 5, TV-173

Public domain film from the US National Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied.
The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original).

...After secretly crossing the Yalu River on 19 October, the PVA 13th Army Group launched the First Phase Offensive on 25 October, attacking the advancing UN forces near the Sino-Korean border...

The UN Command, however, were unconvinced that the Chinese openly intervened because of the sudden Chinese withdrawal. On 24 November, the Home-by-Christmas Offensive was launched with the U.S. Eighth Army advancing in northwest Korea, while the US X Corps attacked along the Korean east coast. But the Chinese were waiting in ambush with their Second Phase Offensive.

On 25 November at the Korean western front, the PVA 13th Army Group attacked and overran the ROK II Corps at the Battle of the Ch'ongch'on River, and then decimated the US 2nd Infantry Division on the UN forces' right flank. The UN Command retreated; the U.S. Eighth Army's retreat (the longest in US Army history) was made possible because of the Turkish Brigade's successful, but very costly, rear-guard delaying action near Kunuri that slowed the PVA attack for two days (27–29 November). On 27 November at the Korean eastern front, a U.S. 7th Infantry Division Regimental Combat Team (3,000 soldiers) and the U.S. 1st Marine Division (12,000–15,000 marines) were unprepared for the PVA 9th Army Group's three-pronged encirclement tactics at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, but escaped under Air Force and X Corps support fire—albeit with some 15,000 collective casualties...

By 30 November, the PVA 13th Army Group managed to expel the U.S. Eighth Army from northwest Korea. Retreating from the north faster than they had counter-invaded, the Eighth Army crossed the 38th parallel border in mid December. UN morale hit rock bottom when commanding General Walton Walker of the U.S. Eighth Army was killed on 23 December 1950 in an automobile accident. In northeast Korea by 11 December, the U.S. X Corps managed to cripple the PVA 9th Army Group while establishing a defensive perimeter at the port city of Hungnam. The X Corps were forced to evacuate by 24 December in order to reinforce the badly depleted U.S. Eighth Army to the south.

During the Hungnam evacuation, about 193 shiploads of UN Command forces and matériel (approximately 105,000 soldiers, 98,000 civilians, 17,500 vehicles, and 350,000 tons of supplies) were evacuated to Pusan. The SS Meredith Victory was noted for evacuating 14,000 refugees, the largest rescue operation by a single ship, even though it was designed to hold 12 passengers. Before escaping, the UN Command forces razed most of Hungnam city, especially the port facilities; and on 16 December 1950, President Truman declared a national emergency... The next day (17 December 1950) Kim Il-sung was deprived of the right of command of KPA by China. After that, the leading part of the war became the Chinese army...

THE ARMY'S INFANTRY REVOLUTION || WARTHOG 2018
Warthog Defense

Published on Mar 23, 2018
There's a revolution afoot in America's infantry. New guns to replace the M4 carbine, M16 rifle, and M249 Squad Automatic Weapon. A new mini-drone to scout ahead. A new tactical network to link scattered units. A new night vision sight that displays targeting data like a fighter pilot's Heads-Up Display. New tactics to use all of the above and new VR simulators to train on. All these innovations could be in the hands of US Army infantry within “a few years,” Brig. Gen. Christopher Donahue told reporters Friday.

BAKU - A great deal of geopolitics is fixated on land and sea in the context of security. It reveals how geography, demography, economy, natural resources and technology determines the political interaction between individual nations. Today, the biggest militaries in the world are in an arms race towards a new type of weapon that can pass through most defenses and thereby can reshape the present interplay between great powers.

Japan Is Rebuilding Its Military For The First Time Since WWII, Full Episode, VICE on HBO
VICE News

Published on Mar 15, 2018
Japan is rearming itself for the first time since WWII in response to China’s increasing expansionism, and with tensions on the rise in the Pacific, the U.S. could be forced into war.

After Japan was defeated in World War II, the country was forced to disarm and swear off military capability ever again. Over time, that pacifism became part of the Japanese psyche, but nationalism is on the rise around the world and Japan has not been immune from the political tide.

China’s increasing expansionism, especially in the disputed islands in the East China Sea, and the looming nuclear threat from North Korea have revived decades old rivalries between the Asian superpowers.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his backers are re-thinking the country’s previously peaceful stance, and moving to restore Japan’s military might. And if local hostilities did boil into conflict, the U.S. is expected to play a very specific role.

”Japan fully depends on the strategic deterrence and strike capabilities of the United States if China really goes for military action,” Retired Admiral Yoji Kada, who was once the commander in chief of Japan’s self-defense fleet told VICE News. “The cost they are going to pay is very bloody, they know that”

VICE’s Gianna Toboni traveled to Japan to see how big the country’s offense has become.

THE MARINE CORPS' NEW RIFLE IS SUPER EXPENSIVE — AND NOBODY KNOWS WHY || WARTHOG 2018
Warthog Defense

Published on Mar 24, 2018
In their race to field a more powerful automatic rifle, the Marine Corps sidestepped the normal acquisition process and approved a contract to buy them at price tag five times that of the current M4 rifle. The $150 million deal, which may have involved a government employee who recently worked at the foreign arms maker that won the bid, is now under intense scrutiny from Congress — and raises questions about the Corps' aggressive focus on fielding more lethal gear into troops' hands as quickly as possible.

Field artillery is a category of mobile artillery used to support armies in the field. These weapons are specialized for mobility, tactical proficiency, long range, short range and extremely long range target engagement.

Until the early 20th century, field artillery were also known as foot artillery, for while the guns were pulled by beasts of burden (often horses), the gun crews would usually march on foot, thus providing fire support mainly to the infantry. This was in contrast to horse artillery, whose emphasis on speed while supporting cavalry units necessitated lighter guns and crews riding on horseback.

Whereas horse artillery has been superseded by self-propelled artillery, field artillery has survived to this day both in name and mission, albeit with motor vehicles towing the guns, carrying the crews and transporting the ammunition. Modern artillery has also advanced to rapidly deployable wheeled and tracked vehicles and precision delivered munitions capable of striking targets at ranges between 15 and 300 kilometers. There exists to date no other singularly effective all-weather fire delivery system which rivals the modern field artillery.

History

Early Modern era

Early artillery was unsuited to the battlefield, as the extremely massive pieces could not be moved except in areas that were already controlled by the combatant. Thus, their role was limited to such functions as breaking sieges. Following the beginning of the gunpowder era, the first field artillery came into being as metallurgy allowed thinner cannon barrels to withstand the explosive forces without bursting. However, there was still a serious risk of the constant changes of the battlefield conspiring to leave behind slow-moving artillery units - either on the advance, or more dangerously, in retreat. Artillery units were particularly vulnerable to assault by light cavalry, which were frequently used in this role.

Only with a number of further inventions (such as the limber, hitched to the trail of a wheeled artillery piece equipped with trunnions), did the concept of field artillery really take off.

20th Century

Before the first World War, field artillery batteries generally fired directly at visible targets measured in distances of meters and yards. Today, modern field batteries measure targets in kilometers and miles and often do not directly engage the enemy with observed direct fire. The hundredfold increase in the range of artillery guns in the 20th century has been the result of development of rifled cannons, improvements in propellants, better communications between observer and gunner and technical improvements in gunnery computational abilities.

Most field artillery situations require indirect fire due to weather, terrain, night-time conditions, distance or other obstacles. These gunners can also rely upon a trained artillery observer, also called a forward observer who sees the target, relays the coordinates of the target to their fire direction center which, in turn translates those coordinates into: a left-right aiming direction; an elevation angle; a calculated number of bags of propellant and finally a fuze with a determined waiting time before exploding, (if necessary) to be set, which is then mated to the artillery projectile now ready to be fired...

Modern field artillery (Post-World War I) has two distinct parts: some forward observers (or FOs), and the batteries. Each battery is divided into the fire direction center (FDC) and the actual guns themselves...

Because artillery is an indirect fire weapon, the forward observer must take up a position...

Typically, there is one FDC for a battery of six guns, in a light division. In a typical heavy division configuration, there exist two FDC elements capable of operating two four gun sections, also known as a split battery...

In most Artillery Batteries the Command Post or CP controls the firing of the guns...

The foreign legion : men without a past (full documentary)
Best Documentary

Published on Mar 22, 2018
Jean-Baptiste Gallot followed these elite soldiers who have come from all over the world to serve France. For Droit de Savoir” he filmed these Foreign Legion new recruits during the different stages of training in Djibouti, in Guyana and also during the violent operations in the Ivory Coast. From a series of warning shots at a column of vehicles led by the Ivory Coast president’s rebels in power to the training sessions in the Guianese equatorial forest or in the Djibouti desert, the most dangerous and hazardous missions are the ones given to these “men without pasts.” Eighty percent of these trainees successfully complete the training compared to only 50 percent among soldiers of the regular army. Considered as one of the best professional troops of the French army, the Foreign Legion is conceived to deal with the high risk missions where the probability of losing soldiers is highest. This is also the only army unit where men have the right to a second chance no matter what their past. An exceptional document which testifies to the reality of ground combat, and where the adversity and danger lived through together create a durable cohesion.”

New challenges for the German army | DW Documentary
DW Documentary

Published on Mar 28, 2018
A UN mission involving German troops is taking place in Mali, West Africa. The German army is acting as an international military peacekeeping task force.

But how can Germany’s Bundeswehr master the challenges of the future? Around 1,000 women and men of the Bundeswehr are deployed as part of the UN mission in Mali. But what exactly is their task? The documentary’s writers - Djamila Benkhelouf, who served with the Bundeswehr herself for two years, and Nino Seidel - accompanied the soldiers in Gao. They provide a multifaceted insight into everyday life, both in the camp and on patrol. Specialized personnel such as pilots, facility defense staff and explosive ordinance experts are in particularly high demand for such missions; their training can take months, sometimes years. The deficit in these specialized personnel within the German military is becoming apparent to the soldiers in Mali; deployments are becoming longer, while at the same time new missions are being added around the world. This documentary asks: how has the German military changed in recent years? It is no longer a purely defensive force that would respond only in the case of an attack on Germany. How has it been confronting the new crises and upheavals in Europe and in the wider world? Is the Bundeswehr up to this new challenge?

Army to begin implementation of tougher basic training program, citing poor discipline and out-of-shape recruits for military woes

  • An idea was proposed that would increase the 10-week program to 12 weeks
  • The improved BCT would be expected to begin implementation in the early summer of this year
  • A more stringent Combat Readiness Test would be implemented as well, extending the three week program for six weeks

THESE 5 WONDER WEAPONS WERE HITLER'S PLAN TO SAVE NAZI GERMANY || WARTHOG 2018
Warthog Defense

Published on Apr 6, 2018
During Germany’s early string of victories between 1939 and 1941, Hitler informed the members of the nation’s aerospace industry that he had decided to impose new restrictions on aircraft research and development. However, by 1942 the Führer and his Air Force High Command (Oberkommando der Luftwaffe) had recognized their mistake. With the increasing weakness in the fighter arm, Hitler saw that his old faithful aircraft like the Messerschmitt Me-109 were losing ground to the new Allied long-range fighters, such as the North American P-51 Mustang, used to escort U.S. and British bombers that were devastating Germany with little resistance.

BAKU - For over half a century, starting with the Partial Test Ban Treaty in 1963, a series of legally binding arms control regimes prevented further proliferation of nuclear weapons and restricted the existing stockpiles. However, under the weight of geopolitical events, nearly all agreements have come to a stop, and may completely collapse in the near future.

US Air Force Pararescue training - Pararescue Indoctrination Course

The PJ/CRO Indoc is a nine week course conducted by the 350th Battlefield Airmen (BA) Training Squadron, BA Training Group, 37th Training Wing, AETC.

Pararescue trainees are required to pass the Pararescue Indoctrination Course at Lackland AFB, commonly referred to as "indoc". Following that is a long string of courses including Combat Dive School, Army Airborne, National Registry for Paramedic, Survival (SERE), and Military Free-fall Parachutist. Upon completing the aforementioned, a pararescue trainee is required to then complete the Pararescue Apprentice Course, which combines all the prior skills and adds a few more. Once a Pararescueman has completed the pipeline, he is assigned to a Rescue or Special Tactics team where he will receive informal on-the-job training. Additionally if a pararescueman is assigned to a special tactics team he will receive additional training along with Air Force Combat Controllers in what is known as Advanced Skills Training.

WATCH OUT TRUMP Russia has Magic Missiles that can shoot down those NICE NEW SMART Missiles
ArmedForcesUpdate

Published on Apr 12, 2018
US President Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to clarify that he never specified when the US would conduct an attack on Syria.
“Never said when an attack on Syria would take place,” Trump wrote on Thursday. “Could be very soon or not so soon at all!”

Trump also credited his administration with defeating ISIS in Syria. “In any event, the United States, under my Administration, has done a great job of ridding the region of ISIS. Where is our “Thank you America?” he tweeted.

Trump’s tweet comes a day after he warned Russia to “get ready” for a missile strike on Syria. The US is considering a military response over a reported chemical weapons attack on the rebel enclave of Douma on April 7.

Syrian President Bashar Assad has been accused of being behind the purported incident, but the US said it also holds Russia responsible for failing to prevent Assad from conducting the alleged attack.

White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Wednesday Trump "holds Syria and Russia responsible for this chemical weapons attack," and said “all options are on the table.”

Earlier this week, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, pointed out that the alleged incident was beneficial only to the militants. Russian military specialists visited the site and said they found no signs of a chemical attack or any victims.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the UN’s chemical weapons watchdog, said back in June 2014 that all stockpiles of such material had been removed from the country.

Trump tweeted Wednesday that Russia should “get ready,” because missiles “will be coming, nice new and smart!”

Russia responded to Trump’s threat by calling on common sense to prevail. "We do not participate in Twitter diplomacy," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said. "We support serious approaches. We continue to believe that it is important not to take steps that could harm an already-fragile situation."

EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT RUSSIA’S HUGE TANK FORCE || WARTHOG 2018
Warthog Defense

With regards to protection, the T-90Ms seen in the field use Relikt like the T-72B3 and T-80BVM, but the T-90M makes extensive use of slat armor with slat panels protecting the turret ring and rear chassis. The T-90M also retains the Shtora Active Protection System from earlier T-90 variants. The distinctive “eyes” that formed the Shtora jamming component are removed, but the capability to detect missile launches and automatically deploy smoke is retained. The T-72B3 and T-80BVM lack this capability.
