Insurance Companies have had a similar set up for some time...

it saves them a bundle in court judgements

This didn't come with my cars but it bears noting they are out there
if your car has an ECM, they'll take what they can get...

some of today's vehicles are so advanced, multiple computers, some that record conversations inside the vehicle, so, big brother comes along, on the ride, for free...we used to just call them bums but they've learned to make a living out of it...

The CBP clowns just bought a big case of poopy. That "forensic" software is snake oil; there isn't a manufacturer in the world that has given this mob any sort of access to their IP at a level required to perform such analysis.

My car is a 1994.

My van is a 2014; but it spends most of its time in a Faraday Cage. A pole-barn garage, metal sides and roof and door. I bought it to travel in, but the Face-Diaper Nazis had better plans for me and my ilk. So it's not going to be reporting much.

I doubt my murdersickle is reporting much. It's a 2010 and not that advanced, electronically.

So I'm not personally worried. Just, personally, revolted and disgusted.

It wasn't by choice.

The Regulatory State has DEMANDED features and compliance standards. Today's Obamamissions cannot be met without feedback EFI, shut-off-at-light programs, nine-speed transmissions. Always they're calculating fuel usage towards optimal economy.

Airbags. Started out with ONE for each front-seat occupant. From there we have a whole forest of airbags, in seats, sides, steering wheel, dash. All controlled by microprocessors.

It's very little additional to have those brains report back to the Mothership; and government sure appreciates it. If it's not demanding it now, it will in the future - soon.
