I was born in earthquake country, and this one woke me up from 40 miles away.
I will wait for Dutchsinse to chime-in, but I am surmising that, since the quake erupted directly below UC Berkeley, that it was down-graded a full magnitude, but people in the Bay Area are very nervous, and EVERYONE expects the big one to hit soon.
Kilauea erupted last week, and the increase in volcanic activity has forced a dozen vents to open in the Leilani Estates subdivision, bringing with it spewing lava, historic earthquakes and toxic gas that has rendered parts of the once-serene residential area unrecognizable.
Here are maps showing locations of vents, lava flows and earthquakes on the Big Island
OSAKA – One of the most powerful earthquakes to rock the Kansai region in decades struck Osaka and neighboring prefectures Monday morning, leaving at least four people dead and more than 300 injured.
The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.1 and registered lower 6 on the Japanese intensity scale to 7, hit at 7:58 a.m. at a depth of about 13 km under northern Osaka, the Meteorological Agency said. No tsunami warning was issued.
This animated map created from the NOAA, NWS, and PTWC shows every recorded earthquake in chronological order from January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2015. The size of the circle shows the magnitude of the earthquakes in relation to each other. The color represents the earthquake depth.
You are a better man than I searcher if you can stand to listen to this guy. I gave up and hit the MUTE button.
THANK GOD he provides his sources of information so one can view without listening to his sick puns/rhymes and his screams echoing back. (My guess he is in his mother's basement. Dad must be gone or dead cause no man would listen to his verbal crap on a daily basis).
