FCPS Reinstates Two Books, Reaffirming Commitment to Supporting Diversity in Literature

Two books that were subject to a formal challenge have been deemed appropriate for high school readers following a two-month review process and will be reinstated to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) libraries.
The decision reaffirms FCPS’ ongoing commitment to provide diverse reading materials that reflect our student population, allowing every child an opportunity to see themselves reflected in literary characters. Both reviews concluded that the books were valuable in their potential to reach marginalized youth who may struggle to find relatable literary characters that reflect their personal journeys.
“Gender Queer: A Memoir” by Maia Kobabe and “Lawn Boy” by Jonathan Evison had been temporarily removed from FCPS libraries serving high schools following a challenge in September. The highly-regarded and award-winning books were questioned due to content said to be of an explicit sexual nature, and claims that they referenced pedophilia.
Per FCPS Regulation 3009, on receipt of the formal complaint, two committees of school administrators, librarians, parents, and students were formed to consider whether the two books were suitable (as optional independent reading material) for high school students. Both books were temporarily withdrawn from FCPS library shelves during the review process.
After deliberate and lengthy discussions on the potential merits and concerns of the book as a literary work, and the potential merits and concerns associated with retaining or removing access to the book from students using school libraries, the committees unanimously recommended that the books should remain available. The final decision to reinstate them was made by the assistant superintendent, Instructional Services Department, per the process outlined in the regulation.
The committee noted the following merits of “Lawn Boy,” which appears in the catalogue of 11 FCPS high schools:
  • The book is an accessible examination of race, class, socio-economic struggle, and sexual identity. It paints a portrait of the substantial obstacles faced by those who are marginalized by society. It is an uplifting and humanizing depiction of navigating through setbacks with resiliency to reach goals and will resonate with students.
  • The themes of this book are affirming for students who will recognize that they are not alone as they experience similar systemic challenges and societal prejudices.
  • The book has literary value as a narrative representing the perspective of a significant portion of students in Fairfax County Public Schools with a variety of backgrounds.
  • There is no pedophilia present in the book.
The committee noted the following merits of “Gender Queer,” which appears in the catalogue of seven high schools:
  • The book is a well-written, scientifically based narrative of one person’s journey with gender identity that contains information and perspective that is not widely represented. This depiction includes the difficulties nonbinary and asexual individuals may face. The book has literary value in its structure, voice, and themes and has won literary awards.
  • Students with a related experience will feel affirmed and others can gain understanding and empathy.
  • The resources referenced in the book provide access to additional, reliable information.
  • The book neither depicts nor describes pedophilia.
Klimenko accepted the committees’ recommendation, and today, FCPS announced the decision that will see the books return to shelves. This decision holds, pending any further appeal.
Klimenko said, “I am satisfied that the books were selected according to FCPS regulations and are appropriate to include in libraries that serve high school students. Both books have value beyond their pages for students who may struggle to find relatable stories.”
The robust committee process took place over several weeks and considered whether the books flouted regulations by being obscene or harmful to juveniles as defined by the Code of Virginia. The members also considered the work in line with an excerpt from the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook pertaining to possessing obscene visual imagery as defined in the Code of Virginia.
After careful consideration, neither books were deemed to have fallen foul of these regulations.
The two committee reports are available to read:
FCPS has a required process for selecting books and materials for school libraries. The process also outlines the criteria for withdrawing resources from the collection and the procedures for reconsideration of the appropriateness of a book. All the division’s library books are included in an online database open to public view.
Parents are also welcome to visit their student’s school library by making an appointment ahead of time and following visitor protocol. Pre-arranged visits to school libraries are possible before or after the instructional day.
Read more about this decision.

Right there is a BULL SHIT statement. Nothing is scientifically based on: 1). a narrative and 2) one person.

Funny how the superintendent stayed the FUQUE out of the decision. Leaving the brow-beating, coercion, and laying of guilt complex on his "lacky" the assistant superintendent, librarians, teachers.
Student are easily manipulated as they know absolutely shit about life and consequences. Parents who should know better are splint by those that support this shit and a minority of parents with morals.

The gay parents I know do not support this either. This is Unicorn people crap. The intention is to normalize gay and transgender. Its not even everyday normal gay they want. They want these kids confused about both sexual identity and sexual orientation. This is to honor their god Baphomet.

they are down here... Fairfax county may be a lost cause. We have enough old time southerners down here to put up a fight. That area of Virginia is so transient and it has the DC crowd running the show. One more reason I left the area.

For anyone who is interested, you can download this masterpiece for free here: https://3lib.net/book/11825309/d67aa2. Fairfax County Schools described this book as "a well-written, scientifically based narrative of one person’s journey with gender identity that contains information and perspective that is not widely represented. This depiction includes the difficulties nonbinary and asexual individuals may face. The book has literary value in its structure, voice, and themes and has won literary awards."

Yup, now you know what all the fuss is about. I suspect the reason they choose gay material is so they could hide under the banner of educational material. If those were heterosexual, pornographic cartoons they would be banned. We did get the books taken out, One county at a time. The goal is to sexualize children at a young age, confuse them about their sexual identity and orientation and then control them through that confusion.

Transgender Professor At Old Dominion University Rebrands Pedophiles As ‘Minor-Attracted Persons’

The latest left-wing attempt to normalize pedophilia is yet again teaching us the painful lesson that nothing, not even the innocence of children, is sacred to far-left activists.

By Spencer Lindquist
NOVEMBER 15, 2021

After witnessing Twix’s latest ad or hearing about Sex Offender Story Time, you might have mistakenly assumed that the left’s push to sexualize children and normalize pedophilia couldn’t be any more blatant. But alas, the word “restraint” isn’t in the vocabulary of those whose insatiable hunger for the most potent forms of moral rot have driven them to take bites out of the few remaining taboos that we haven’t “progressed” past quite yet.
The latest attempt to normalize pedophilia comes from Allyn Walker, an assistant professor at Old Dominion University who uses the nonsensical pronouns “they/them” and has advocated for pedophilia to be “destigmatized,” calling for pedophiles to instead be referred to with the insultingly euphemistic term “minor attracted persons.”

Walker is the author of the book “A Long, Dark Shadow: Minor Attracted People and Their Pursuit Of Dignity,” which challenges “widespread assumptions that persons who are preferentially attracted to minors—often referred to as ‘pedophiles’—are necessarily also predators and sex offenders, this book takes readers into the lives of non-offending minor-attracted persons (MAPs).”
Walker’s attempt to legitimize non-offending pedophiles isn’t the first of its kind. Vice also looked into allegedly “non-offending” pedophiles, including a foster parent pseudonymously called Gary who, to no one’s surprise but everyone’s horror, was accused by one of his foster children’s biological mothers of sexually abusing her daughter.
There was also a man dubbed Ian who was so non-offending that he felt comfortable testing himself by working at a job that “involved children directly.” You might be a tad skeptical if your friend who was recovering from alcoholism took a job managing the local liquor store. That skepticism is all the more warranted when we’re running the risk of children being groomed and abused instead of overindulgence in a few too many handles of Old No. 7.

The Intellectualization Of Pedophilic Pathology

Take a look at this viral video where Walker promotes the book and explains why Walker uses the term MAP, saying that the phrase is “less stigmatizing than other terms like pedophile.”

That’s the point. Pedophiles are stigmatized because pedophilia is and deserves to be accurately seen as unspeakably reprehensible. Stigmas are a way we socially communicate this reprehensibility. Any word, framing, or action that chips away at this stigma inevitably breaks down the guardrails against such evil actions.
Yet again we witness an instance of the left siding with the oppressor while pretending to advocate for the victim, this time under the guise of academic inquiry. One has to wonder if Walker has ever considered that our sympathies should lie not with pedophiles who don’t appreciate being called what they are but instead with their victims. Walker’s book intends to help pedophiles pursue dignity. How does a child robbed of his or her innocence pursue his or her sense of dignity?
After hiding comments on Twitter concerning the controversy, Old Dominion released a thoroughly insulting statement in support of Walker opening with the line, “An academic community plays a valuable role in the quest for knowledge.” It also included a statement from Walker, who wrote, “I want to be clear: child sexual abuse is an inexcusable crime. As an assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice, the goal of my research is to prevent crime.”

Framing this conversation as if it is a legitimate field of research that one delves into out of altruism doesn’t fool anybody when you come out and openly say that you’re trying to make pedophilia “less stigmatizing.” It becomes even more transparent when we discover who’s behind this movement and when all social and political indicators point towards a coordinated attempt to sacrifice children’s safety and innocence at the altar of limitless tolerance, the promotion of which has framed the unrelenting degradation of all moral standards as one of our society’s defining moral imperatives.

Meet the Groups Trying to Normalize Pedophilia

Walker is unfortunately not alone in the desire to normalize pedophilia. In defense of the term MAP, Walker cites an organization called B4U-ACT, a pedophile advocacy group. It was founded by a man named Michael Melsheimer, who was convicted of a heinous crime. Wondering what it is? Don’t think too hard. Bank robbery? Nope. Gambling? No. Jaywalking? Not quite. Melsheimer was a convicted pedophile who had served a sentence in federal prison.
In case there is somehow any confusion regarding the group’s character, note that their “About Us” page lists their values and mission without even once articulating a desire to mitigate sexual assault. Its FAQ section includes lines like, “We see minor-attracted people as whole human beings … not as criminals or ‘deviants’ who need to be controlled” as well as “We are not advocating treatment to change sexual feelings.” Allow me to ask, what exactly occurs when the sexual desires of someone who is attracted to children aren’t changed and then subsequently aren’t controlled?
B4U-ACT is not the only organization running cover for pedophiles. In fact, the video of Walker detailing Walker’s reasons for wanting to rebrand pedophilia comes from a conversation hosted by the Prostasia Foundation, which advocates for the same evil as B4U-ACT.

Here’s a section of Prostasia’s website called “Our campaign against doll bans.” What type of dolls exactly? Sex dolls that “governments define as ‘childlike.” The organization also works alongside the “MAP Support Club,” a “peer support chat” for pedophiles. It just so happens that the minimum age to join the chat is 13.
If you point out that taking children and sticking them in group chats with pedophiles sounds more like a recipe for child grooming than it does abuse prevention, Prostasia might just accuse you of being far right.
The organization’s talk with Walker was also conducted by their communications director Noah Berlatsky, who has a history of publicly advocating for pedophiles, whom he complains are part of a “stigmatized group.”

WTF?????

This shit does NOT belong in our schools or public libraries.

This needs to come to an end.

There is a certain level of decency that needs to be reflected in society.

Did any of y'all actually read the books before vilifying them?
The page Avalon quoted there, page 167, was actually the only "nasty" page in the entire book. You should not condemn a book because of one page.

I think a lot of you would benefit from reading Maia Kobabe's book about her gender confusion and struggle. But it will be outside of many men's comfort zone so I doubt if many will give it a chance. There is no reason it shouldn't be in a school library.

The other one; The Girl From the Sea I haven't got to yet.

if its valuable reading material take that page out. Do we need graphics to help kids with gender confusion ? BF, a lot of what's going on in public school is designed to cause gender confusion. Gay may not be uncommon by true transgender is. These kids are being labeled. They are being encouraged to label themselves. I do not support labeling children. Its a discussion my 11 year old granddaughter and I have a lot. Labeling is the first step to depersonalizing humans.

I don't think anyone has a problem with that page BF
I don't think a person needs a book to figure out what gender they are. They can just look down and know.

Anyone that thinks they can change it is mentally ill.

I lived in Nova for a while a decade or so back...... seemingly neutral folk there, but I can see the gravitation to the detestable practices from those that govern there. The recklesss abandon of the Creator.

Lev 20 13 “‘If a man lies down with a male the same as one lies down with a woman, both of them have done a detestable thing.+ They should be put to death without fail. Their own blood is upon them..

Nebuchadnezzar dream.......Of an immense image ,of which he didn't remember but bothered him to no end...
If you want read the book of Daniel, short read 8 chapters...Or more in depth "Pay attention to Daniels Prophecy" book
available on jw.org, download the app go to library.....and it's in publications. There is also a great movie on the book of Daniel which is perfectly done which I highly recommend ,in order to gain insight
into our situation today;

It's a whirlwind of confusion among the governors of this world they don't know which way to go on issues.. especially the dual world leading powers of us/great brit. When confusion sets in it's prime for Satan's cultivation... Critically important to alway focus on the Creator ,the ransom sacrifice of his son , and his word He gave to us.

The dual world powers symbolized by the legs of iron and later in the life of that system, the feet of iron and clay....have a very close relation to what's happening
with the world today....clay and iron don't mix ....and now it's evident with the world
leaders approving hard measures on one hand and lax measures on the other that critically threaten the fragile fabric that man's society has been held together with..

Yes. I have read the whole book.
The page Avalon quoted there, page 167, was actually the only "nasty" page in the entire book.
I disagree with you. The entire book is
(a) without any literary merit. I would not want this "book" in a school library even if it's subject was not in the slightest bit controversial. It offers nothing in terms of vocabulary, grammar, style, beauty, art, or any other measure by which one might deem a book worthy of study by a student of the English language.
(b) clearly designed to influence students politically and sexually in ways most parents would object to. It is designed to normalize transexuality and deviant sexual behavior on almost every page. Don't get me wrong, I think transexuals should have exactly the same rights under the law as every other human being. But that is not the same as condoning the deviant behavior, or accepting people trying to persuade kids that this is normal or OK. I think prostitutes should have the same rights as everyone else too, but I don;t want my daughter to become one and I don't want books in the school library designed to influence my daughter to become a prostitute.

And finally - is page 168 the most pornographic page? Yes, but it is certainly not the only pornographic page - and frankly yes - even if that one page were the only objectionable thing about the entire book, it is is enough to exclude it.

You should not condemn a book because of one page.
Yes you should.

I think a lot of you would benefit from reading Maia Kobabe's book about her gender confusion and struggle. But it will be outside of many men's comfort zone so I doubt if many will give it a chance. There is no reason it shouldn't be in a school library.

BF
There is every reason it shouldn't be in a school library.
- it has no literary merit whatsoever
- it is designed to influence kids in a way that will cause them emotional and psychological harm and is against their parents' wishes
- it is pornographic.

Actually I do have a problem with that page. It is designed to teach a child something that is scientific nonsense, morally wrong, and potentially harmful to the child's wellbeing.

I apologize for speaking for you. Its a delicate subject. My heart goes out to any child truly struggling with sexual identity or sexual orientation. They need and deserve help working though issues. That being said what is going on in schools is promoting both these agendas. Its not that different than Critical Race. Now children have to apologize for being white and heterosexual. My Granddaughter's 5thgrade class already has a large group of girls who identify as gay and in truth most don't even understand what it means other than they like girls. The transgender seriously concerns me because the government now wants to intervene to give young people the right to make medically dangerous and life altering choices. Once again transgender is a very rare condition. The school agenda doesn't end with the books. There are surveys being given at school as early as 5th grade asking children how many sexual partners they have, when did they last have sex and how to they identify sexually. Most parents do not even know about these surveys or that they have the right to opt out of them.

I think the battle of worldwide leaders has already been lost. Satanic forces are ruling most countries now.
