If they we serious about fighting fake news then every major news network would be off the air and every paper would be shuttered. The problem is that the Fourth Estate has become its own political party.

It's one thing to get the story wrong. I don't expect the media to be 100% accurate because they (like the military) operate within "the fog of war" as it were. There are often a number of missing facts and they have to tie it all together for the story, so mistakes will happen. What bothers me is when they run headlines about X but then when they run a retraction, it's normally hidden somewhere in a very obscure location...if at all. In today's 144 character news cycle, they set and change perception and opinions based on "anonymous sources" and manufactured information...but then don't bother correcting those opinions when it actually is debunked.

Both The Federalist, and Anti-Federalist papers were written anonymously.

Q Anon (Quartet of Anonymous) has become quite the cult sensation, with many a veritas-vetted leak.

Is oldgarandad the name on your birth certificate?

Neither is AurumAg on mine.

Anonymity permits certain sensitive information to see the light of scrutiny.

The key is to have the same, consistent, dependable and vettable (is that a word?) anonymous sources.

Well, if you think you can get away divulging sensitive information anonymously, think again.

Nothing is anonymous to the NSA. They know who you are and where you are. I was told years ago that they even measure the time it takes between key strokes. And if they got all that data, then so does all the other Alphabet Federal Agencies.

As to the video:
Yes, fake news is the gateway meme to censorship.
Yes, MSM have long been the gatekeepers of news and information
Yes, MSM has long been the 5th column instead of the 4th estate...control and propaganda have long been the name of the game.
YES! An alternative, decentralized means of providing factual, verifiable news and information has ALWAYS been needed.

I personally believe that facebook, twitter and other "social media" were initially perceived as such by the populace but such thinking was overridden by the desire for far-reaching contact with other humans over the cool new thing (another erroneous perception) called the internet/net/web/interwebz. It's success was OUTSTANDING! Nevertheless, the reality, seen initially only by those of us who actually read the "Terms Of Service{TOS}" was quite different. All were a "honeypot" operation to con users into giving over ALL rights to ALL content owned and posted by members/users. Zuckerberg and others made BILLIONS off of the pee-on members/users for rich depth of personal information and zillions of adverts force fed to users/members. Now, ALL that information belongs permanently to farcebook and the other "socialist media" sites. A more raw and crude deception than Google (elgooog for the dyslexic) and nearly as profitable.

Anyway, I've seen users of Steemit around the interwebz already. After listening to video above I decided it was time to investigate. I must admit that I always liked the idea of "social media" because I can see where it would be fun and useful for many things. But I would NEVER join any social media site under their terms of service. I've received many criticisms over the years for not joining. Upset a LOT of people by refusing to be photographed and having gone so far as to demand that photographs of me be deleted from from their phones and/or any identifications of my personage be deleted. Yes, I have and use the Cliff notes version of "How To Lose Friends and Upset People" . I'm here to say proudly that it works!

Haven't read the TOS or anything about Steemit yet but I have it open in another tab now and will be investigating it later. Hopefully it will be what it's cracked up to be. I'l knnow soon enough.

Whatever the type of media, you will always have someone trying to steal your first amendment rights, in order to present only their agenda to the massess.
I think a few successful multi-million dollar lawsuits against the high rollers, like Soros, Schmidt and Zuckerberg, etc. etc. for violating your first amendment rights, will go a long way to stem the flow of MSM fake news.
Also, reading Trump's executive order may allow siezure of some of the worst networks. Certainly most CNN and MSNBC hosts have committed treason over and over.

The 1st amendment says the government can not put you in jail for speaking your mind. It does not say you can say and do anything you want without reprisals from the public.

Eggsactly. This is what pisses me off with people today...someone does something they don't like and they start screeching about "freedom of speech" and whatnot....totally oblivious to what the BoR actually DOES.

When you get up in the morning and the light is hurt your head
The first thing you do when you get up out of bed
Is hit that streets a-runnin' and try to beat the masses
And go get yourself some cheap sunglasses
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Spied a little thing and I followed her all night
In a funky fine Levis and her sweater's kind of tight
She had a west coast strut that was as sweet as molasses
But what really knocked me out was her cheap sunglasses
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Now go out and get yourself some big black frames
With the glass so dark they won't even know your name
And the choice is up to you cause they come in two classes
Rhinestone shades or cheap sunglasses
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

OK. Now this is getting too deep for me. I'm tempted to think. No. Not gonna do it. It's Saturday and I'm wasting precious life in front of a keyboard? Later. Let me know how that fake news turns out...
