THE US ARMY'S FUTURISTIC NEW HELICOPTER IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF A FUTURE HELO FLEET || WARTHOG 2017
Warthog Defense

Published on Jan 19, 2018
Bell's V-280 Valor successfully completed its first test flight in December and could win the US Army's competition to replace its fleet of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

The V-280 can fly at 280 knots with a self-deployable range of 2,100 nautical miles, and a combat range of 500-800 nautical miles. It has a crew of four and can carry 12 troops, meeting all of the requirements the Army has laid out.

The Army has made it clear though that no single helicopter design would replace its entire helicopter fleet, according to Stars and Stripes.

Is The U.S. Air Force Still Secretly Plotting To Kill The A-10 Warthog?
US Defense News

Published on Jan 19, 2018
The A-10 Warthog got a major boost from Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson at the end of 2017, and Congress has told the service to overhaul the beloved light attack aircraft’s wings to extend its life by another 20 years. But internally, branch officials would prefer that the tank-killer jet up its wings for good, a new report suggests.

Civilian A-10 program manager Todd Mathes told roughly 100 officials in a recent meeting on the A-10 project that the Warthog’s multi-million dollar re-winging and rebirth simply “was not going to happen,” the Project on Government Oversight reports.

Here's the Ugly Plane Still Blinds Enemy Radar After 45 Years
US Defense News

Published on Jan 24, 2018
Let’s face it, the naked eye can only see so far and it can’t track the really fast stuff. Radar makes up for that natural shortcoming and has become a necessity in warfare. In fact, it’s arguably the main reason that the British won the Battle of Britain.

Ever since the Battle of Britain, folks who wanted — or needed — to put bombs on target in enemy territory needed to disable enemy radar first. Blowing up enemy radar is no easy task as most military forces keep them well guarded. Thankfully, you don’t need to blow up the enemy radar — you just need to make sure it can’t see. During World War II, specialized units, like No. 100 Group of the Royal Air Force, flew a variety of planes modified with jammers with the sole purpose of disrupting radar.

THE AIR FORCE'S F-15 HAS WON EVERY BATTLE IT HAS EVER FOUGHT || WARTHOG 2018
Warthog Defense

Published on Feb 10, 2018
According to the Syrian version of the story, the MiG-25PDS mimicked a MiG-25R on a reconnaissance sortie by flying very high and fast in the direction of Beirut. When eight Israeli F-15s rose to intercept, the Syrian pilot fired two R-40s at their leader — one from around 37 miles, the other from slightly less than 31 miles, well outside the range of AIM-7F Sparrows, the longest-ranged air-to-air missiles in the Israeli arsenal in 1981.

P-51 Mustang View Super Bowl LII Heritage Flight

Published on Feb 11, 2018
The Wings of the North Air Museum's http://www.wotn.org Sierra Sue II P-51 Mustang lead the U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight over U.S. Bank Stadium at Super Bowl LII on February 4. Sierra Sue was first in a diamond formation including two A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and an F-16 Fighting Falcon.

Wings of the North is proud to support the USAF Heritage Flight Program, which presents the evolution of USAF air power by flying today's state-of-the-art fighter aircraft in close formation with vintage fighter aircraft. Sierra Sue will be flown by renowned American aviator Steve Hinton for the Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation.

Steve Hinton has flown more than 150 types of aircraft. In 1979 he became the youngest person to set a new 3-kilometer World's Speed Record for piston powered aircraft in a highly modified P-51 Mustang. A founding member of the Motion Picture Pilots Association, Hinton has served as a pilot and /or aerial coordinator for more than 60 feature motion pictures and made-for-TV movies, series and commercials, including chief pilot for Pearl Harbor in 2001 and as himself in Iron Man (2008), Steve Hinton Filmography.

Sierra Sue II is one of only a handful of flying Mustangs that actually saw combat in World War II. Assigned in 1945 to the 402nd Fighter Squadron, 370th Fighter Group, 9th Air Force, 1st Lt. Robert Bohna named the plane for a girl in his high school. Sierra Sue was fully restored in 2014 by AirCorps Aviation in Bemidji, Minn. to replicate 1944 factory delivery specifications. Authentic details include working World War II era radios and full armor plating.

Wings of the North Air Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based at Flying Cloud Airport, serves learners of all ages by restoring and showcasing flying aircraft to bring history to life, honoring Minnesota's aviation pathfinders and veterans through exhibits and events, and inspiring youth to meet 21st century challenges by using science, technology, engineering and mathematics. http://www.wotn.org

U.S. NAVY PILOT BAIL OUT PARACHUTE GRAMPA PETTIBONE TRAINING FILM 34154d
PeriscopeFilm

Published on Mar 5, 2018
This 1949 color animated film titled “Bailing Out” is a U.S. Navy training film covering parachute ejections. It begins with an animated Vought F4U Corsair cruising through the sky when a thunderstorm begins (0:14-0:38). A bird flies into the engine and causes rapid altitude loss. It passes a floating 7000-ft altitude sign as it drops towards a mountain range (0:39-1:45). The Lieutenant looks terrified at the prospect of using his parachute and bailing out (1:46-1:53). An animated Leonardo Da Vinci hangs his prototype parachute out a window and encourages his assistant to test it, who is shown yelling and quitting, unwilling to jump (1:54-2:30). The plane is shown continuing to lose altitude. The Lieutenant’s cockpit transforms into his bed, where he hides under the covers as an alarm goes off, which transforms back into his cockpit instruments (2:31-2:55). Jean-Pierre Blanchard’s 1785 parachute test with a dog as the passenger is animated (3:05-4:12). The Lieutenant’s imagination of the parachute failing is animated (4:13-4:36). Dozens of animated pilots are shown parachuting at once (4:45-4:51). The parachute is shown being checked out, which transforms into the packing data card and instruction manual (4:52-5:22). The effects of loose straps are shown, and a brief showcase of proper wearing (5:23-5:46). The plane is shown passing markers at 5,000, 4,000, and 3,000 feet in the air (5:51-6:01). The film shows an animated explanation of jumping with a 1940s Navy parachute: slow the plane down, open the canopy, disconnect radio and oxygen, undo safety belt, throw back the shoulder straps, and prepare to jump. (6:02-6:51). The Lieutenant is shown remembering his ground training, correctly exits the plane in a parachute, and pulls the lever (6:52-8:08). The Lieutenant is shown remembering jumping off a shed as a child, and easily lands (8:09-9:09). The film ends with him casually trying to light a cigarette, and the dog that first tested the parachute gives him a drag off his opera-length cigarette holder (9:10-9:33).

The character shown in the film is not named but is likely based on "Grampa Pettibone". This was a character created in 1943 by Lt. Robert Osborn, an illustrator who worked in collaboration with writer (and USN Commander) Seth Warner. The so-called “sage of safety” character shared pearls of veteran pilot wisdom in the pair's airplane safety and mishap column, which was published in the Bureau of Aeronautics' newsletter. Following a description of a mishap, the old curmudgeon aviator railed at young fliers for making stupid mistakes. More than one aviator caught in a pinch in the sky has suddenly remembered a timely pearl of wisdom from Gramps that helped the flier avoid a costly- and perhaps fatal-error.

F-4 Phantom II Aircrew Rescue Procedures 1972 US Navy Training Film
Jeff Quitney

USAF Training Film playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...

Describes safe rescue procedures for the aircrews of crashed F-4 fighters.

Produced by Naval Missile Center, Point Mugu, California.

US Navy Training Film MN-11070A

Originally a public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied.
The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original).

The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor aircraft/fighter-bomber originally developed for the United States Navy by McDonnell Aircraft. It first entered service in 1960 with the U.S. Navy. Proving highly adaptable, it was also adopted by the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force, and by the mid-1960s had become a major part of their respective air wings.

The Phantom is a large fighter with a top speed of over Mach 2.2. It can carry more than 18,000 pounds (8,400 kg) of weapons on nine external hardpoints, including air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, and various bombs. The F-4, like other interceptors of its time, was designed without an internal cannon. Later models incorporated an M61 Vulcan rotary cannon. Beginning in 1959, it set 15 world records for in-flight performance, including an absolute speed record, and an absolute altitude record.

During the Vietnam War, the F-4 was used extensively; it served as the principal air superiority fighter for both the Navy and Air Force, and became important in the ground-attack and aerial reconnaissance roles late in the war. The Phantom has the distinction of being the last U.S. fighter flown to attain ace status in the 20th century. During the Vietnam War, the U.S. Air Force had one pilot and two weapon systems officers (WSOs), and the US Navy had one pilot and one radar intercept officer (RIO) become aces by achieving five aerial kills against enemy fighter aircraft. The F-4 continued to form a major part of U.S. military air power throughout the 1970s and 1980s, being gradually replaced by more modern aircraft such as the F-15 Eagle and F-16 in the U.S. Air Force, the Grumman F-14 Tomcat in the U.S. Navy, and the F/A-18 Hornet in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps.

The F-4 Phantom II remained in use by the U.S. in the reconnaissance and Wild Weasel (Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses) roles in the 1991 Gulf War, finally leaving service in 1996. It was also the only aircraft used by both U.S. flight demonstration teams: the USAF Thunderbirds (F-4E) and the US Navy Blue Angels (F-4J). The F-4 was also operated by the armed forces of 11 other nations. Israeli Phantoms saw extensive combat in several Arab–Israeli conflicts, while Iran used its large fleet of Phantoms in the Iran–Iraq War. Phantoms remain in front line service with seven countries, and in use as a target drone in the U.S. Air Force. Phantom production ran from 1958 to 1981, with a total of 5,195 built, making it the most numerous American supersonic military aircraft...

CONSOLIDATED B-24 LIBERATOR FUEL & OIL SYSTEM MAINTENANCE FILM 54174
PeriscopeFilm

Published on Mar 20, 2018
This is I-821, a Restricted War Department Training Film about the 50-hour maintenance performed on the Consolidated B-24 Liberator’s fuel and oil systems. It was produced by The Signal Corps in collaboration with The Army Air Forces. The B-24 was an American heavy bomber produced between 1940-1945. The film opens with shirtless men getting a lung exam, a track meet, and a diagram of the heart’s pumping system (:22-1:00). A diagram of the B-24 shows the 12 self-sealing fuel cells, the auxiliary fuel cells, fuel transfer unit, fuel pumps, and the shut-off valves, (1:02-1:35). Men are on scaffolding working on the plane (1:36-2:00). Every 50 hours, the carburetor screen is removed, cleaned, and replaced (2:01-2:35). The throttle shaft bearings are oiled (2:36-2:50) and the main fuel strainer is removed, cleaned, and replaced (2:51-3:55). The fuel line is inspected for leaks by first turning on various switches in the cockpit, shown up close. The hose clamps are checked, as is a visual check of the hose (3:56-5:04). More switches are turned to inspect the primer at the manifold, oil dilution, and fuel selector (5:05-6:15). Clearance tests are performed on the bucket wheel and the cooling cap reset (6:16-7:30). The entire supercharger is checked, including the regulator (7:31-8:45). The intercooler is checked as more switches in the cockpit are shown (8:46-9:15). For the oil system, check the oil cooler, air duct, oil supply tank, supporting straps, decoy line, and vent lines (9:16-10:30). The oil screen is removed, cleaned, and replaced, and the poppet valve checked (10:31-11:48). The inspection is recorded and the propellers all turned on to end the film (11:49-12:13).

HOW THE U.S. MILITARY WENT TO WAR AGAINST VIETNAM'S RADAR AND AIR DEFENSES || WARTHOG 2018
Warthog Defense

Captain John E. Donovan, an electronic warfare officer, monitored the equipment in his F-100F Super Sabre fighter. It was December 22, 1965, and his plane was part of a strike mission searching out enemy antiaircraft sites. Two days earlier, a similar mission had gone badly, resulting in the loss of a plane and its crew.

SIDESTEP? Cessna Citation Flight to Charlotte NC
captmoonbeam

Published on Feb 26, 2018
Pilot Vlog 162. Flying the Cessna Citation XLS private jet to charlotte, Nc. During this flight we have the ATC communications recorded and cockpit video of the takeoff and landings. The sidestep is part of an instrument approach clearance where the pilot is cleared for an approach to one runway but, to land on a parallel runway once it's in sight. If you were on a visual approach, you would just request the other runway and be cleared for a visual approach to that runway, if available. Just before the hand-off to Charlotte Tower we were cleared for the visual approach to 36L. So, we should have just request 36R.

How good is the Cirrus SR22?
Stefan Drury

Published on Mar 27, 2018
What's better, SR20 or SR22? I've flown a Cirrus SR20 for over a year, but will flying the SR22 be the right move? This vlog shows the Cirrus stall protection, straight & level button, some circuits and my thoughts on the Cirrus SR22 G3.

If you're new to the channel, welcome. Be sure to subscribe for regular flying and travel videos. I'm a Private Pilot with a passion for travel and I make regular vlogs on YouTube. Thanks for checking the channel out.

✈️Learn to fly a Cirrus ✈️
Thanks to Cirrus CSIP Michael Walden from FlyWAS who came with me on this flight. If you want to fly a Cirrus too, check out http://flywas.com.au

VERY IMPORTANT: I am a private pilot and am NOT qualified to give flying instruction. This video, like all videos on this channel, has been significantly edited from the original source footage and is provided for entertainment purposes only. Many radio calls and procedures have been omitted. If you have any questions about anything you see or hear, please speak to a Certified Flying Instructor first.

Filmed on a Canon 80D, often a few GoPros, and sometimes my iPhone.
