Total body workout for the last workout of 2016. I also met one of my role models. Dwayne the rock Johnson. Buuuut I froze up and forgot to ask for a photo! That's okay there is always next year..lol

Remember guys the most important thing about moving into a new year...or any new day for that matter is that it is a chance to get better as a person. A chance to change something you don't like. A chance to be who you've always wanted to or thought u could be. Don't wait every year until a new year to decided this is the year for a new me. That opportunity happens everyday...every moment. You make a decision to either live in happiness or to let whatever negative or hardships in your life control the next "few steps". Take a moment today to be thankful for it ALL....the good the bad and the ugly. Understand that you have the power to make the best out of any situation that will come in your life.

No one said this would be easy...and damnit it is not...but I promise you it will be worth it. Ive gone through some low times in my life and continue even today to be challenged. Losing a father at 6 years old to suicide is something that stays for a while on your mind. What I've learned about life over the last few years and a lot of what you guys have taught me and continue to teach me is that no matter where u come from and what you've dealt with...things CAN GET BETTER. Things WILL GET BETTER. So again take this day...(and everyday is year) to be a better version of yourself. Grow from your mistakes in 2016 and step forward into 2017 like a fucking champ. I love you guys. #letsgetbettertogether

Why do some people have higher levels of stomach acid?

Hydrochloric acid in the stomach serves many important roles, including digestion and the prevention of bacterial growth. Just as with the rest of your body, there is a delicate balance when it comes to stomach acid. Too much or too little will cause health problems, often with similar symptoms. So what causes someone to have higher levels of stomach acid?

1. Diet - spicy and oily foods as well as large meals. Large meals cause excess pooling of stomach acid. (1)
a. Can lead to acid reflux as well as bloating
2. Stress - has been found to increase the amount of acid in the stomach (2)
a. Stress has been found to influence ulcer formation
b. Stress → excess acid → ulcer formation, however the exact reason why acid leads to ulcer formation is not fully understood
i. Likely due to mucus lining of the stomach. Stress leads to noradrenaline secretion, causing stomach lining capillaries to constrict. This shuts down mucus production and there is less mucus to protect the stomach wall
3. Lack of sleep - has been linked to increase in stomach acid (1)
4. Cancers and other health conditions (1)

Too much acid can cause indigestion and ulcers.

If ulcers form, it is hard to consume fibrous foods. Fibrous foods cause increased acid production in the stomach as foods high in fiber digest slowly, which cause extreme ulcer pain. This can lead to an intolerance for fruits and vegetables, and thus difficulties in nutrition and diet. You want to be sure to fix acid levels before this occurs.

Three Foods to Eat to Lower Stomach Acid

1. Lentils
a. Low fat, high protein
i. Low levels of fat make lentils easy and fast to digest, not leading to acid build up like high fat protein sources do
2. Fresh Parsley
a. Neutralizes acid in stomach

Other Tips:

If you are experiencing acid reflux, pay attention to your diet. It could be too much or too little stomach acid, or a slew of other problems. Diet is the main cause - keep a journal of what you eat and when you experience acid reflux. Reduce or eliminate foods that cause discomfort.

If you are having problems it is good to go to a doctor to have them measure the acid levels to see what changes are best to make.

Nelson Diaz has dedicated himself to facilitating the implausible achievements of adaptive athletes through compassion and action. The events only have meaning and purpose to the degree that they can be applied to life at large and to what extent the athletes can use them to tell their unique story to the world.

Lessons:
- Any new situation, when confronted, evolves from fear to adaptation.
- If life is a dash between you birthday and your death day, measure your value by the lives you have you changed in the interim.
- Avoid distractions to the degree that they are diverting you from the main purpose of your life.
