What do you get when you bring the fittest people on the planet together and challenge them with seemingly insurmountable tasks over the course of several days? If it’s not the CrossFit Games, it’s probably Cookeville Camp.

In this episode of “Road to the Games,” follow an elite pack of athletes—including Rich Froning, Katrin Davidsdottir, Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, Tia-Clair Toomey, Dan Bailey and Sara Sigmundsdottir—as they meet in Cookeville, Tennessee, to ferret out their weaknesses and test their mettle.

At the helm of this spectacular ship buoyed by suffering are CrossFit Specialty Course: Aerobic Capacity mastermind Chris Hinshaw and decorated Marine Corps Maj. Brian Chontosh.

On Day 1, Hinshaw runs the athletes through a series of challenges that test their aerobic capacity.

Sigmundsdottir becomes frustrated when she finds herself unable to keep up with Davidsdottir and Toomey, but Hinshaw assures her that weaknesses aren’t bad. Instead, they can be understood as sources of opportunity.

Later, Chontosh puts the athletes through a harrowing evening of team-based activities that involve hiking through the Tennessee wilderness in the dark and swimming in a freezing pond.

Justin Mullins Hi Mark I have a question about stretching and lower back Mobility I've seen a few people have the same situation that I have to wear whenever they are trying to touch their toes it seems like their lower back stays flat and the problem seems to be worse whenever you're sitting on the ground it looks like just your rib cage up comes over and your lower back stays straight up is there any stretches that you could recommend to help this problem I already foam roll and stretch everyday

I was recently diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome by my Sports Doctor which came about because I was having numbness in my face hands and arms after training one day. I have since been through Physical Therapy and the numbness has went away. How can I still train chest and shoulders as heavy as possible without risking numbness again and also what is the best forms of recovery for someone who regularly lifts heavy and has constant muscle tension all the time. It's to the point that the last time I went heavy on chest day, I had so much tension in my neck, shoulders and around my shoulder blades that no mater how much I would stretch or foam roll my muscles just would not relax. Thank you for any help I really appreciate it!

1/4 tsp baking soda

Today's class includes: pelvic floor exercises, stomach vacuums, weight lifting for back and shoulder strength or in case of pain, barre moves, vinyasa yoga, floor yoga, groove moves. 3rd eye meditation at the end. Stick around for it. I ended up having a powerful meditation. As soon as I said Namaste my camera shut itself off. When I opened my eyes it was 3:33 pm on May 3rd. Pretty cool. All these exercises have been so powerful in my own recovery. Things are becoming firm yet again. Hope you are finding your core. Thank you all for the amazing messages you have been sending me in regards to the Core Series.

*Warm up - 3 mins on Rower or Vertical Rope Pull. Perform 2 sets of Deadlifts (20 and 15 reps), super-setting each one with Olympic Bar Good Mornings (15 reps).

#1: Deadlifts - 4 sets of 15, 12, 10, 10 reps.
#2: Weighted Pull-Ups - 3 sets of 12, 10, 10 reps.
#3: One Arm Dumbbell Rows - 3 sets of 12, 10, 10.

We're already near the end of Week 3. Before you know it, you'll be halfway through this transformation. This should awaken your mind to the fact that time passes so quickly, which is why you need to remain in control of your daily actions. Every workout has to surpass the last one; leave nothing to chance here. Missing your supplements for a day, or even one meal, can knock you back.

We've got another lower back, hamstrings, and upper-abs workout ahead of us today. Usually, we hit lower back first, but the pump you get from this can negate your hamstring workout. For this reason, we're starting with hamstrings first today.

| Workout |
1. Morning Cardio - 30 Minutes
2. Alternating single-leg curl - 5 sets of 12, 10, 8, 8, 6 reps per leg, rest 60 sec.
3. Stiff-legged dumbbell deadlift - 5 sets of 10 reps, rest 60 sec.
4. Hyperextension - 3 sets of 10/10 reps. All three sets are dropsets. Perform 10 reps with a weight, then drop the weight and complete another 10 reps using bodyweight only. Rest 60 sec.
5. Barbell good morning - 3 sets of 20, 18, 16 reps. For the first set, choose a weight that allows you to reach failure at 20 reps. On the next set, slightly increase the weight and complete 18 reps. On the third and final set, slightly increase the weight again and do 16 reps. Rest 60 sec.
6. Circuit
Weighted crunch - 20 reps
Cross-body crunch - 20 reps
Medicine-ball roll-outs - 20 reps
Ab twist - 50 reps
7. Evening Cardio - 30 minutes

A common question that I'm often asked by my subscribers is:

"How Do You Motivate Yourself To Go To The Gym & Workout?"

The truth of the matter is that EVERYONE goes through phases where they lack motivation. And this applies regardless if you are just getting started in the gym, or you have been working out for years.

Despite all the motivational tips, slogans, and meme pictures that are flooding your social media feeds... We all go through times when we don't feel like going to the gym.

The # 1 Tip that I can offer you when you get into a motivation slump like this is to say:

"F#%K It, I'm going to the gym anyway..."

Stop thinking about, just do it!

Very often the hardest part about working out is just showing up to the gym.

And if you need some help to make the process of going to the gym easier, just commit to doing and "easy" workout. By mentally making the task of going to the gym smaller in your mind you'll have less of an objection about going.

What you'll often find is that once you just show up and get started you'll start to build some momentum and it gets easier.

So the next time you are feeling down and can't motivate yourself to go to the gym... Just say:

"F#%K It, I'm going to the gym anyway..."

As simple as this is, it actually works :-)

The Temple of Iron - A day at the gym!

I've been asked by a number of viewers about my gym routine, so much so that I gave in and made a video about it.

While we like to focus on shooting and combatives, it's easy to ignore the likely real threats - health and diet. This video is just a little bit about what I'm trying to do to fix that part of my overall effort towards self improvement.

This isn't for everyone, but for those of you who are curious, this is for you.
