Coconut oil contains about 50% lauric acid - When lauric acid is present in the body, it is converted into monolaurin, a monoglyceride compound that exhibits antiviral and antimicrobial properties

Monolaurin has been found to incorporate itself into the cell membrane of gram-positive bacteria (that contain a thick mesh cell wall lattice made of sugars and amino acids) and disrupts the lipid membranes of cells, blocking replication and making it an easier for your immune system to take care of (3)

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is loaded with powerful antioxidants, such as polyphenols, that protect the body from oxidative damage caused by free radicals

Also improves insulin sensitivity - Your pancreas releases the hormone insulin into your blood, which tells your liver, muscles, and fat tissue to take the glucose from the blood and store it.

Your liver and muscles store the glucose as glycogen, and your fat cells store it as triglycerides. The storage of glycogen expands the size of muscle cells, and the storage of triglycerides expands fat cells.

Cells are sensitive to insulin, they respond to insulin properly by taking in the glucose that the insulin is trying to shuttle out of your blood stream.

The more sensitive your cells are to insulin, the better they respond to its presence in your blood. As insulin sensitivity increases, your body needs to produce less insulin to absorb glucose - helps maintain a lean, healthy body (4)

Study

One study from the journal Diabetes Care, conducted with 60 people with type 2 diabetes, found that the daily ingestion of 1, 3, and 6 grams of cinnamon per day for 40 days decreased blood glucose levels by 18-29% (means that their cells were responding better to insulin)

The group eating 6 grams per day experienced a significant reduction in only 20 days. (4)

Just the other day I got a message from one of my subscribers who has been experiencing knee pain while cycling, so I decided to make this video to cover some simple exercises, stretches, and tips that you can use to help prevent knee pain while biking and make your cycling rides more comfortable.

First, make sure to do a proper warm up before you ride. A lot of people just jump on the bike and start riding, but you should take a few minutes to warm up your legs to limber up the joints, tendons and ligaments. I personally do some deep knee bends, bodyweight squats, and light stretching before I go out for a ride. It only takes a few minutes, but it can make a big difference in your comfort level especially if you are experiencing knee pain while riding.

Second, during the first 5-10 minutes of riding take it easy and just focus on spinning your legs in an easy gear. Don't start riding hard right at the start, give your body a chance to go through the motions and circulate blood flow to your legs before increasing the intensity of your ride.

Third, if you are new to riding or coming back to riding after a long layoff. Don't jump into a big 20 mile bike ride right from the start. Take your time and ease yourself back into riding again. For your first few rides just go a couple miles and build up the distance and intensity gradually day by day. In the spring time when I'm getting back into riding again after a winter layoff I'll do some spin classes at the local gym. This helps to condition my legs and build up my work capacity for riding again without causing joint pain.

Forth, make sure your seat is set at the right height. Ideally it should be as high as possible while still maintaining a slight bend in your leg when the peddle is in the bottom position. But even if you are in this range, you can experiment with setting your seat about 1/2 inch higher or 1/2 inch lower. Sometimes a slight difference can make your rides more comfortable and help reduce strain on the knees.

These tips will apply regardless if you are a road cyclist or ride a mountain bike because the same principles apply in both cases.

2a) Manual Resistance Push Ups (3 sets : 4 reps)
2b) Clapping Push Ups (3 sets : 4 reps)

3) Bench Press (75% of Max : 25 total reps : as few sets as possible)

4a) Alternating From Top Incline Bench (3 sets : 6 reps / arm)
4b) Incline Bench (3 sets : 6 reps)
4c) Anti-Rotation Row (3 sets : 6 reps / arm)

5a) DB Skullcrushers (2 sets : 8 reps)
