The Audiophiliac ponders the many splendored wonders of distortion. I covered the subject in greater depth in a Stereophile As We See It a few years ago, https://www.stereophile.com/content/c...

We were happy with just one speaker up to the 1950s, then we had to have two speakers, but then we needed even more speakers for movies, and now most folks are happy with one speaker again. Oops, I forgot to include SACD and DVD-A, but then again it's so easy to forget them.

UNGANO'S--210 West 70th Street was a tiny 250 seat club between Amsterdam and West End Avenues. I haven't been able to find much info about this late '60s/early '70s club or its proprietors, brothers Arnie and Nicky Ungano. The Allman Bros, MC5, Iggy Pop, Van Morrison, Fleetwood Mac, the Grateful Dead, Muddy Waters, BB King, Black Sabbath, Procol Harum, the Kinks, and so many more played there. And superstars like Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page regularly dropped by and played a few tunes. One night I saw Neil Young play a quick solo acoustic set, so I just wonder why Ungano’s remains largely ignored by rock music historians.
Sim Audio's Costa Koulisakis Gives Us a "Tour" of the Moon 888 Monoblock Amplifier Analog Planet
Published on Mar 18, 2018
What's inside a monoblock amplifier that costs $120,000 a pair? Sim Audio's Vice President-Customer Experience and part owner of the company (he's been there for 18 years) Costa Koulisakis removes the cast top cover and gives us a tour.
The "888" stands for power output into 8 ohms. It doubles to 1776 into 4 ohms and doubles again to 3552 watts (!) into 2 ohms, assuming your electrical system is up to the task (mine is not!).
You may ask "Who buys this stuff?" and answer your own question with "No one!" But you'd be wrong. AnalogPlanet editor and Stereophile senior contributing editor Michael Fremer had to wait almost a year to get these review samples while Sim Audio filled consumer orders.

CD Trader has a 30% Off Used Vinyl sale a few times a year, so I exercise restraint and only go during those special weekends... where I proceed to procure a fat stack of records. Check out what sweet stuff I found as Allison and I head to the store for some intense crate digging.

Dayton's new DTA-2.1BT integrated amplifier is also a honey. Firstly because it sounds nice, secondly because its all-metal chassis is so darned small -- just 1.4 by 5.25 by 5.2 inches -- and best of all the DTA-2.1BT sells for just $99. Paired with Dayton's also-new $69 per pair MK402 speakers, the sound is a pure delight.

I'm not sure why, but audiophiles really hate being called audiophiles, so maybe we need to bring back hi-fi. As in high fidelity. Hey man, check out my hi-fi. Can we try I am a "hi-fi enthusiast," or stick with audiophile?

Vinyl Record Mystery Boxes are awesome mail adventures! For just under $30 shipped, Temporary Residence Ltd., a label that I really dig, was sending out 5 random LPs from their catalogue. ~$6 an album? Not a bad gamble. Check out my quest for colored vinyl and/or albums I wanted as I unbox two of these puppies.
