This is the BIGGEST vinyl mail haul I've ever had, and I unboxed it on a livestream with Allison guest starring! More details about most of this in the B-Side this month. There's also a lot of Q+A, so enjoy :)

AXPONA moved to the spacious, beautiful Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel this year. The show was 30% larger than last year and the crowds were large all three days, but notably on Friday, which is usually a slow show day.
Walk the floors and halls with AnalogPlanet editor Michael Fremer who concentrated on all things analog at the show, though the coverage does not ignore the rest. The video opens with a "breeze through" of the large, ground floor rooms, followed by more complete coverage of analog developments in the EXPO area.
This is the first of a number of AXPONA 2018 videos you're sure to enjoy.
Playing a 104-year-old record: Alma Gluck - Carmena (1913) VWestlife

Victor 10" Red Seal 64400, recorded Dec. 29th, 1913 in Camden, NJ. Played on a cheapo modern record player with a 3 mil 78 RPM stylus, modified with a direct output from the phono cartridge to the ceramic phono input of a Radio Shack mixer. Some click/pop and hiss filtering was added in editing, but the EQ was untouched.

You'll never believe that these 5 (well, 9...) records have NEVER been pressed to vinyl. Each of these albums/artists are awesome and why they never received vinyl pressings still blows my mind to this day. Take a listen to my picks, and be sure to share yours in the description below.

Here is my Record Store Day 2018 vinyl haul and vlog of my experience waiting overnight at Amoeba Music. I ran into and met a lot of awesome folks, which helped pass the time until morning... where I set out to acquire all the records on my list. How did I do? Well, tune in and find out.

AXPONA 2018 days 2 and 3 were spent mostly touring the upper hotel floors, with day 3 ending at the Convention Center on the other side of the Schaumburg Renaissance Hotel.
More new analog gear debuted at this show than had been expected considering that Munich High End is but a few weeks away.
You'll see new cartridges, turntables and phono preamps. While AnalogPlanet mostly left speakers, DACs and other electronics to Stereophile's coverage, a few rooms did receive more full blown coverage.
AnalogPlanet editor Michael Fremer does not waste time room to room making picayune sonic assessments. These are hotel rooms, after all, that mostly produce mediocre sound. If there's good sound it does mean something but if there's bad sound it means nothing—unless the host says "We're getting great sound"!
After you've watched this and the previous video, you will have pretty much seen everything new in the analog world at AXPONA 2018.

This is the 1st part of a 4 part interview series with The Album Leaf and the creators of The Endless where we talk about movie scores, music, vinyl, and everything in between. The Album Leaf is a musical project led by Jimmy LaValle and has been one of my favorite things to listen to for years. He composed the score for both Spring and The Endless, two amazing films created by wunderkind filmmaker duo Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson. The Endless just released in theaters and is getting rave reviews from critics and fans alike.
I sat the three of them down and we nerded out about music, movies, and vinyl for hours. Jimmy also sheds light on his new vinyl focused label, Eastern Glow Recordings, who will be releasing The Endless (and eventually Spring)'s scores on vinyl! This is part 1 of 4 of the cut-down interview, explaining how Jimmy hooked up with Aaron and Justin to score their incredible films.

Back by popular demand... ASK ME ANYTHING! Today I'll tell you where I got an US first press of Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger for $15... Plus talking about the ProJect Debut Carbon turntable... Japanese Aerosmith pressings, and more...
I do not make any income from any video I upload where there is music being played. The sole purpose of my music uploads is to extol the virtues of vinyl record playback and demonstrate the performance of different turntables and phono cartridges. If any artist, label, estate or artist management does not want artist's work viewable on my channel, please contact me and I will gladly remove it.
