We slipped back over 100 this morning. I guess nothing in the markets moves in a straight line...
O.T. but the entire market is down this A.M. including the metals.

I have a buddy who was lamenting how he wished he had bought more gold and hadn't bought so much silver. I told him we could fix his problem and we could work out a trade.

I'd been talking to him since mid March when the GSR was in the 120's trying to get him to make that trade.

He kept backing off, making one excuse after the other. One day he blurted out "If it gets down to 100 to 1 I'll do it." I asked him if he was sure, wanted him to verify he wasn't just saying this and he would actually pull the trigger. He confirmed and so we shook on the deal.

Soooooo, I've been riding his ass the last few weeks, reminding him of what he said.
Today he finally came through, and we did a straight trade of 5 ounces of gold for 500 ounces of silver.

I'm trading the GSR - we'll see if it plays out like it's suppose to.

I gave up:
2 Perth Mint Bars
1 Pamp Suisse Bar
1 Credit Suisse Bar
1 2009 Philharmonic

I received:
The bulk (450) Northwest Territorial Mint rounds. Then a few oddballs, State of Texas, Nolan Ryan, Chrysler
Two ten ounce NTR bars
One ten ounce Wall Street Bar
One ten ounce Sunshine Mint Bar

At 100/1, a single tube of GAE's which fits in a pocket is equivalent to 4 monster boxes of SAE's which is ~140 pounds with storage considerations.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Which would you rather have now, and into the future with potential GSR trades? Serious question and food for thought. Good luck out there folks.
For me, I would welcome the Au for Ag trade at the present time, 96-100/1 for the last months.
I believe the ratio will go down significantly in the future to give good opportunities to do the opposite trade.
I would only trade a percentage of my Au.

Has anyone gotten any fair trades lately of Gold for Silver? I'm getting the shaft everytime I talk to my dealer about it so I end up not getting the trade.

You will always lose a little bit for slippage, commission and bid/ask spreads. It also depends on if you're trading generics or AGEs / ASE but it should be no more than 4 or 5 on like items. If it's more than that you should probably find another dealer.

93.2 finally becoming a bit more sane. That 115+ GSR was something.
Yep, 93.5/1 as of this post.
I'd still make some trades Au for Ag @ this ratio.

Actually what is incredible is that the ratio is that high.
This is true, but less than a week ago we were still knocking on 100. It is the speed of this move which is impressive to me. Something is up in the silver market. Perhaps the shorts/bankers have finally let go of the submerged beach ball. Perhaps, in the midst of all the current insanity silver will shine a light on what actually makes sense.

Couple dynamics in play for silver at the moment...

1. Silver broke above multi-year resistance around $20-20.50...that brings in the technical traders...
2. Sprott's PSLV fund has filed for a shelf offering so they can buy $1.5 BILLION in physical silver...

Reality is that with MANY contracts standing for delivery in the COMEX - and with that continuing without abating...the idea of Sprott buying 8% of yearly silver mine production is sending the shorts scampering...

We could get to $26 in really quick fashion - potentially...

Caveat...we are a bit extended in the silver price - and moves like this in silver are common at the end of waves where silver plays catchup...

I would expect whatever high we are gonna reach in silver to happen relatively soon - with a correction to backtest the $20 area at the minimum...

So at what ratio do we swap silver for gold? 50:1? 25:1? 18: 1?

9:1

Thats the ratio that is actually being mined today.

But - considering that silver actually gets consumed and gold doesnt...

Perhaps 5:1 is a better answer....
