Platinum is as low as I've seen it in a while. The last time I marked it for watching was last October when spot was $918.00. Apmex was selling Engelhard one ounce bars for $998.29. Most of the time I've seen platinum rounds (Canadian, Australian, Phillys, etc) sell for about $100.00 over spot in one ounce size.

Here's Apmex link to platinum pricing: http://www.apmex.com/category/30000/platinum

Spend wisely

Would it be safe to say, that the other white meat's value was driven primarily by use in catalytic applications?
As opposed to use as money?
And are there not tons of unsold vehicles parked off site in dealer inventory?
I have no idea, but I wouldn't go all in yet.

I think they're using palladium in those CATs now, and that development (about ten years ago or so) killed platinum prices. I've always thought, given the historic ratio of platinum to gold, that if gold took a big dump platinum would weather it better. So, I figure about 10% of your holdings in platinum, the rest in silver and gold. (lead, brass and steel as well).

Yer right - don't go all in

Palladium over $ 800.....maybe time to dump my huge store of two ounces, lol. They look so much like my silver maples I'm afraid I might mix them up.

My question would be on Platinum what would its barter ability be if TSHTF? I thought about that quite a bit and outside of my huge 1oz Platinum hoard my thoughts think more of paper platinum as a trading vehicle. Can you imagine if in an economic crisis if people in general would only offer silver prices for it?
Just sayin...

New car production is going down, Im frankly not sure I want to make any more metal buys the way things are going.

I don't think it would be much good. Thats what God made silver for. But then, you wouldn't want platty to be your primary PM investment anyhow. I was only thinkin it would be a hedge against gold dropping - you wouldn't feel so bad if you had a buncha platty to sell for a few more buckazoids than that useless gold stuff.

Depends on your age, at 67 not sure how long its going to take for real price discovery for gold and silver. Been waiting quite a few years for the 100+ that never came despite the world continuing to fall apart .

Understood. Certainly wouldn't want to go into debt or deprive myself merely to accumulate more metal. However, if there are surplus funds available I still think the metals are where it is at for wealth preservation.
