Well - not really. At least not yet.

I have been pondering for a while creating a thread that I can use for my own ruminations, observations - whatever...and this seemed to be a good place to put it. A place where I can share stuff I can leave behind once I inevitably leave this den of vipers filled with deplorable dregs such as yourselves. Also hoping that my daughter will be able to have as a memento. But I didnt want it to just be for her - I wanted to share it with all of you as well. I consider you all as part of the family. Some closer than others of course...

As we age - we become more progressively aware of our own mortality - and the rising realization that today may be our last day...and if not today - sometime soon. Next month? Next year? 20 years? It matters not - that time will quickly arrive. For all of us.

What do we leave behind? What are the best parts of ourselves? What valuable lessons/experience do we wish to convey? What are the things most valuable to seek after?

Existential ponderings...

Will the Lions ever win the Super Bowl?

So many important questions to ponder...

If you would like - please consider this thread as the worlds longest farewell speech...

You're not going anywhere. The Lions have a chance to win the Super Bowl if they can pick up a QB who doesn't make bad decisions ate critical times. As a NE Patriot season ticket holder in the 1980's I've been where you are. Just when you think it may never happen a seemingly subtle change occurs and the ride you never thought you'd be able to travel on begins.

Have faith, in the meantime enjoy the game for what it is. Rich dumb millionaires beating the shit out of each other for our entertainment!

I have always wondered;
Are we here as a reward from some other life?
Are we here as punishment from some other life?
Are we prisoners/guards, on a planetary prison, from an interstellar war?
Or, are we simply life, living on a planet?
Do we go somewhere else, when we are done here?
Will we ever know?
:don't know2:

We each will find out for ourselves when our number is called.
The problem is that once that number is called - our record is sealed. No more time to make changes. Die is set.

And then what? Do we have our life examined in minute detail? Are we judged? Are we found wanting?

What would that judgment be based on? Would any of us have a chance of passing that judgment? What happens after that?

Imagine a near term future where there was a chance we would soon be entering a time of eternal "something".

Death.

Such finality. Or is it?

Truth is no one knows for sure.

Thats where belief and faith enter...and if we are honest and objective - no matter what conclusions we individually arrive at - they are all beliefs based on faith in something...no one knows for sure...

So what then? With these realities in our face - how to live? What sort of man should I aspire to be?

So many things to ponder...

Haven't heard any muslim stories of life after death experiences where the males that died, came back to life and said.."all my virgins are waiting for me!! Send me back...SEND ME BACK!!!" Haven't heard any of those, but, I have heard of stories and know of a few who had after death episodes and were with loved ones, in Heaven and with Messiah. Believe what you will. I believe in a here after. I won't share my personal story because no one was there but me and I'm not sure anyone would believe me but I'll tell y'all this. I heard HIS voice, plain as day, like it was yesterday and it was in 1986.
I'm not ready to go but when it happens I'm SURE it will be good.
Blessings on you and yours and Happy New Year early.

On occasion I'll have friends over to celebrate my 85th B-day, my 71st B-day and so on cuz I don't know if me or my friends are gonna be around for it so might as well celebrate as many as possible! Bottoms up, stay thirsty my friends for food, drink and HIS word.
PS...for all those birthday parties...please bring a gift.

It's an "idle time" ponder, not something to run/ruin your life ! :finished:

All I’ll add here is I’ve been in a very similar situation. So, been there, done that. You aren’t alone there, engineer.

Existential ponderings...

1.) Will I end up being able to be a dominant seller on ebay and other places online of '70's silver art bars?

2.) Can I "corner" the '70's silver art bar market?

3.) Will the Tennessee Vols ever beat Alabama in college football?

4.) Will the Tennessee Titans win the SB

5.) Will I live the rest of my life alone and die alone?

6.) Will silver reach and surpass $50 in my lifetime?

I have a bunch of other Existential ponderings but those are the main ones that I usually ask myself when I am awake.

As for what happens to me when I leave this world. IDK and I will not pretend to even know that. I will be..................just dead. I do not worry about what happens after I die. I just concentrate on living my life the way that I see fit as much as possible and not worry about the things that I cannot control. I am responsible for pursuing my own happiness.

.....i am convinced that all we can really leave behind is parts of our selves in the form of influences, and relationships we have impressed on people .....those greatest affected would be our children .....

as all of us have experienced death in our families words or diarys are rarely read ....... i have noticed pictures are viewed occasionally....but memories of interactions seem to last the most

so my suggestion is to spend time with your daughter while you can...

I remember many of, if not all, of the people that influenced me as I travelled through life, the good, the bad & the ugly.

Also, when I open my mouth, sometimes my father comes out ! :belly laugh:

I think if you get away with doing more of the things you want to do than things you dont want to do, you win the game of life.

I am here for one specific reason and when I know what that reason is I will complete it. The only thing I can come up with right now is that old meme of "I can't die, I'm not done pissing people off." Or something like that

It was easy to fall in love with Mary as a teenager.

Oh God. Oh dear. Oh my.

Mary Hopkin. Her voice was so beautiful -- it hurt. You just gave me a strong flashback, bro.

(*snif*)

ten minnits later: Hadda play the whole thing twice more

(*snif*) (*snock*)

Pretty soon, we're all gonna die.

So I said, "what the hell" and grabbed her thigh.

I envision this thread evolving over time - hopefully into a series of posts that describe - as best as I can - the weightier matters of life - and what I think I have discovered from having pondered them. Underlying themes - morals - values. Why I think they matter.

You know - important stuff...

Maybe some of you might care to share your important stuff you have figured out...

The most important stuff that I have figured out, most of us here have also figured it out.
Is that we are being lied to, on many different levels/subjects, by what we call our government.
There is a force that is trying to dramatically change life on earth, as we know it, & it's not for the better.
It may be far enough along that we will not be able to stop it. Unless the people get their collective shit together, our children, grandchildren........
will be totally enslaved. What a piss poor legacy for us to leave.

I would agree that what you say represents the base nature of all of us.

I would assert that we do possess the ability to rise above our core nature in pursuit of the ideal. We may never attain it because of our core nature - but, the effort in pursuit of the ideal is a form of adulation of the ideal...a respect for it...bestowing honor upon it.

The temperatures in a cremation furnace are not hot enough to destroy the atomic nuclei of the human body. If it did there would be a nuclear explosion destroying things within a very large area. When a human dies it's only a shell that has been cast off as is easily proven by modern scientific understanding.
