I intend for this thread to be a bit random from my perspective - as my thoughts on things are pretty varied... what follows is an example of what I am talking about...

For the record - I despise organized "religion". I cant stand it. I watch these frauds on TV pandering for dollars. I watch the neighborhood churches raise money to build a bigger, better church...that costs millions of dollars and has a coffee shop and book store...and that sits empty most of the time...while there are families within their congregation that are really, really struggling.

I have no respect for the "leaders" of the church that pander to their congregations base cravings - that lack the courage to tell their people the truth...KNOWING they wont like to hear it - but they NEED to hear it. Instead they fill their ears with soothing words that have little relation to what the Bible actually teaches.

Full of rituals...everything scripted. Nothing is spontaneous. The "leader" calls the shots - decides what music is played, what the order of things are gonna be, what is (and isnt) taught, etc... In other words - the "church" becomes an extension of the "leader".

Well - I have a simple challenge to these so called "leaders"...

Show me how you treat the least amongst you. Show me that your lifestyle is consistent with the least amongst you. I am a firm believer that you can walk into any church - anywhere - and quickly conduct a "health check" on that church by answering a simple question.

"How does that church treat the least amongst them?" Who are the "least"? Widows and orphans. In todays vernacular - it would be those that cant take care of themselves...for whatever reason.

Interestingly...a "real" church (in my opinion) probably wouldnt have a "leader" because Jesus clearly admonished His disciples - "you must not be called masters or leaders...because you are all followers...and you have one leader...who is the Christ."

Want to anger a "leader" and watch their head explode? Reference this scriptural passage where Jesus plainly says we are not to allow others to think of us as leaders - because we are NOT leaders...we are followers.

The "leaders" of our modern day church have sold out. They have chosen to abide by mans law instead of Gods'. They have chosen to follow mans' rule instead of Gods' rule. Here is the rule they follow...

IRS - churches.png

Sorry for the poor picture quality...hopefully you can read it...

Please dont take my rant as an accusation against Christ's true church. By no means. I intend this as an attack against what is fake...what is used to take advantage of other people for selfish purposes.

I will share my thoughts on the real church in another post...

Relax Strawboss. Yes there are thieves all over and yes they take many forms but one always can identify them because they are thieves.
A work man is worth his hire. So they hire them and get worked and all is well.

Do I agree with their shenanigans? no. Its like people who like orgies, do I do it? no. In fact I can't stand meetings at all and if I had not went to that damn C party with the family then I wouldn't have come back with this sexy cold that is kicking my ass right now.

You do have to admit that with all them people at church that ay least they are keeping busy.

Strawboss you asked:
What do we leave behind?
We leave behind what others perceive of us, not what we believe we left behind. Most people don't have a clue what's in your heart. So in that vain, I try to follow the words of Pythagoris...

"Rest satisfied with doing well, and leave others to talk of you as they please."

While I'm at it, here's a few more quotes that pertain to the subject at hand.

Millions long for immortality who do not know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday afternoon. SUSAN ERTZ

If I have any beliefs about immortality, it is that certain dogs I know will go to heaven, and very, very few persons.
JAMES THURBER

Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box. ITALIAN PROVERB

Do not seek death. Death will find you. But seek the road which makes death a fulfillment. DAG HAMMARSKJOLD

Death is more universal than life; everyone dies but not everyone lives. A. SACHS

Do not fear death so much, but rather fear the inadequate life. BERLOTT BRECHT

A post about leadership...and who is in charge?

Throughout the ages - mankind (yeah I said it...mankind) has tried just about every conceivable way to organize its affairs. All of these systems have either been proven to not work - or they end up breaking down because of corruption or ineptitude...usually both. Authoritarianism, Totalitarianism, Communism, Socialism, so many isms... And we as a species have tried all of them...again and again and again...and they never work.

Some might say that democracy works...or is "less bad" than the others. That is sorta true...but have you taken a good look at our current system and observed the degradation that has occurred in my lifetime? My observation is that democracy is a system that has a downslope that is less severe as other forms of government - but a downslope nonetheless... In simple terms - its a temporary arrangement that always devolves into dictatorship given enough time. Back to the isms...

All the fights...all the wars...throughout the entirety of human civilization and we still havent figured out the answer to the question...who is in charge? We have tried generals, spiritual leaders, politicians...none of them work out.

Based on these observations over my lifetime and pondering them - I came up with what seemed to me a simple conclusion...

There isnt a person on this planet that is truly competent to be in charge.

Not a single person alive is qualified to be "in charge".

So then I got to thinking - where do these people that are our leaders (and past leaders throughout the ages) get their power from?

1. Physical power (military or gang/group)
2. Financial power (derived from rich people)
3. Spiritual power (derived from shaping peoples beliefs)

We - as a species - are capable of figuring out how to split atoms but we cant even figure out how to organize our own affairs or how to get along with each other. We can build extraordinarily complex things like space shuttles - but we cant stop the trajectory we are on...which is that we are gonna end up killing ourselves...all of us. For every new technology that is created - it ends up being used to devise more sophisticated ways of killing more and more people. We all see this happening.

At the rate of change we have seen over the past 50 years...can you imagine what things will look like 50 years from now? At some point that downward slope will waterfall...

Realistically - how much longer do we really think we have as a species? 50 years? 200 years? 1000 years?

History pretty much confirms that there is no hope that a competent leader will emerge and get us off of this downslope as a species....heading towards our own extinction...

And that is why I cling to my faith...and my rational conclusion that Jesus Christ is the only true hope any of us really has.

The alternatives all lead to extinction. Every last one of them.

They get it from us the people and the reason they have it and use it is because we have been sitting on our butts being fed their line of poop.
What was it Jefferson said? The tree has to be pruned from time to time. So in that effort I chop away as much as I can and when I can, and that is just me. Imagine if every one did the same? Oh, they'd make a new rule but the fact of the matter is the rule they make is for them only and has nothing to do with us.

You do not ever have to prove who you are you just have to show them so. Some people call it loopholes but the fact of the mater is they are gaping holes in their power because there is always an out one just hast to see it before one lets it close on them.

addendum to the above: A lot of us use the rulings of the sitting crows and that one female buzzard that just won't die. We, when we do that have at that moment entered in to their realm which is power over us simply because we did such a thing. It is because it is their decisions.

Now you take the last sentence of the above paragraph and just look at it and extrapolate that into your post; it is their decisions and their power the only way to take that away from them is to not be or use their stuff.

I believe the degradation of society during our age can be laid at the feet of the private / international banking system/cartel.
When National Fiat was at the start our grandparents and parents were not alarmed. A paper dollar and a silver dollar had the same buying power.
I recall as a kid the (Trusted) government of the day came up with the ploy - The PEOPLE are complaining about carrying silver in their pockets and purses. It was too heavy and wearing out pockets and change purses. It was easy to swerve the public too. Carry ten heavy silver dollars or one piece of paper marked Ten Dollars ? OR a heavy $20.00 Gold Coin ( pre 1928) vs the ease and lightness of 20 ONE Dollar Bill at the worse. Fives and Tens along with the 20 Dollar Bill was major convenience of the time. Soon the .Gov Treasuries of most of the world were offered that private international banking would be able to stop economic downturns: Depressions / Recessions and would not cost those governments a penny. Their people would pay for the "Convenience".
"The frog" ( We the People) got cooked over the decades. More paper printed less Gold backing. FDR takes the US off the Gold Standard. Nixon removes silver from coinage. Commodities recognized the ploy first remember the Great Coffee Bean Crisis of the 60s ? US Dollars had less value for the international farmers and buyers and wanted a better return for their product. Then Sugar, and then Chocolate, on down the line everything got more expensive The Gasoline Embargoes of the early 70s. Technology / The computer age creates Digital Currencies all driving the value of money down.
The common man's "Sweat Equity" for working began losing value I believe by the mid to late 60s.

It all turned out for dads to work harder and longer, and then get moms/ women mobilized into the workforce with WWII.

It boils down to POWER = MONEY. More POWER more MONEY.
We have all heard the saying "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely".
The US being a Super Power means " Super Powers are Super Corrupted".
"ETHICS" is now just a word in the dictionary.

YMMV

I feel your pain Strawboss when it comes to organized religion. It's a difficult concept for me not being raised in a religious environment and keeping it that way to present. I generally keep my mouth shut on the topic as I respect other people's faith, have no dog in the fight, and don't understand the concept well myself.

From monotheistic Christianity to polytheism from Native Americans, ancient Greeks, and Hindus to Buddhist atheism/agnosticism and several other brands of religion, I just dont get it. Praying at regularly-scheduled intervals, attending church on Sunday and contributing to the collection platter does not necessarily make one a good subject of the god(s) and spirits of your choice.

IMHO, if one generally follows The 10 Commandments, the Cultivation of Virtues, or other guidelines outlined by the major religions that makes you a good person regardless if you subscribe to a particular religious sect or not. Actions speak louder than words and doctrine. Morals and principles will always define good folks. Good luck out there fine Sir.

This is what Father Malachi Martin believed.
One night on Coast to Coast with Art Bell Father Martin answered a female caller's question: She was not raised in or practiced any religion or been Baptisted, but lived life as she understood Jesus did. She asked would she be allowed to enter the Kingdom or Heaven ?
Martin stated he was sure there were people in Heaven who never heard of Jesus or read a word from the Bible, but lived an honest and righteous life.

Well written...nice job. It explains your thoughts well...

Each of your paragraphs is worthy of a well reasoned response. Instead I will attempt something shorter.

For me - a core question I needed to answer for myself was whether there was a God that created all this that we can see...or did it just happen...where there was a singularity of "nothingness" that suddenly exploded and through a billion coincidences - we eventually evolved. I have settled that argument to my mind's satisfaction convincingly.

That brings the next logical step in teh process of figuring this out...since there are a multitude of religious systems (past and present)...which one is the true one? A much more complicated one to figure out...for sure. Or so it would seem...

What if there really was an authentic one with a WHOLE lot of cheap imitations, rivals and adversaries? Surely not outside the realm of reasonable speculation - especially when you consider that humans have been copycatting, plagarizing and opposing everything under the sun in everyday life for as far back as we go as a species. Its what we do.

So the conclusion I settled on is that its certainly possible that there is an authentic one...with a whole lot of fake ones. How to figure out which is which?

I would highly recommend a movie called "The Case for Christ". Its on Amazon and Netflix. Send me the receipt and I will pay for your movie ticket.
