Crack it out of that case and enjoy it.

Nah. I will keep it in the case. I have several that are raw that i will enjoy when i put those in a Whitman book.

I went to a local flea market yesterday and saw an 1893 Morgan silver dollar (raw coin but looks about AG-3 grade) for $80 but i did not buy it because i was not sure about the value of it and i did not have my Morgan red book with me.

Anybody have an idea about the value of this bar?
Yeah VH, but you'd have to get a real Engelhard collector to achieve a goodly price (two to three times spot). BUT — it's a 100 oz bar, which are always a hard sell for much profit. And it doesn't say Englehard it anywhere so it might be a tough sell to a LCS (unless they KNEW what it was) or sell for much above spot.

Prolly, if yer patient enough, you could realize a handsome profit on it.

Thanks BF for your helpful post.
Instead of keeping this one in the long term stash, I've been thinking that maybe I should throw it on the bay to see what develops.
If somethin happens to me our kids wouldn't have any clue that this one may have special value.

As far as i am concerned, this 1878-CC Morgan that i purchased earlier today for $40 from the LCS is a great snag. A "scruffy" coin no doubt but Morgan CC silver dollars are expensive (to me anyway) at higher grades. View attachment 179435View attachment 179436

That coin may have been in a card game that included Doc Holiday and an assortment of other famous western types we read about today. Because of that I would rather have a well worn CC Morgan than a BU one.

Ah, The Romance Factor. What has this coin been though during it's early days ?

They just implemented it for TN this month and it hurts real bad. It's much harder to find a deal now.

Taxes killed any deals on ebay for me, unless its HVAC parts. Don't even look at anything else anymore.

That sucks. Luckily half-whit here in MI hasn't heard of taxing coins yet.

i've seen a few different labels for these, they're now popping up all over the place

PCGS ruined this market with the multiple labels...if they only had one label, i might buy one, like that Dewey newspaper, but, now, i've gotta ask myself: Self, which label would be the better purchase?

I answer: Self, shut up, go outside and do something productive before i knock you out...

Self answers: O.K., that leaves more money for beer!

Ouch. Wtf is Rolled Gold?

Made it up on the next one and lesson learned (spend an extra second looking at the design, they are darn close).
Pretty much same as gold filled. Thin layer of gold over base metal. Very profitable if you buy it right and in large quantities. . Runs about 2-5% gold by weight without wear.

Slightly thicker plating. Used to be popular years ago, I have found quite a few RGP rings in old lakes. Instead of plating flaking off they get dark blotches as the base metal rots under the plating.

come on man, if all you had was a magazine or a poured silver bar?

tell you what, that silver bar is a lot more durable than those pages are ...

just saying
