The leader of Bath Iron Works, one of the Navy’s largest private shipbuilders, abruptly resigned, the company said.

A terse notification to employees announced Dirk Lesko had resigned from the General Dynamics subsidiary that employs about 7,000 workers.

Lesko led the shipyard through a reset after his predecessor’s stormy relationship with the workforce and then dealt with a tumultuous period that included a pandemic and his own labor troubles including a strike.

There was no reason given for Lesko's departure, which was announced in a two-sentence memo to workers Thursday. Robert Smith, General Dynamics' executive vice president for marine systems, will serve as president temporarily until a permanent successor is chosen.

Bath Iron Works is one of two shipyards that build destroyers for the Navy.

In recent years, Lesko focused on getting caught up on schedule and hiring and training workers. At one point, the shipyard was six months to a year behind schedule on delivering ships to the Navy.

A longtime Louisiana Democrat lawmaker stepped down last week amid a federal financial investigation into her 20-year gambling addiction.

Karen Carter Peterson, 52, made her abrupt resignation public on Friday, citing her need to focus on a decades-long battle with depression and chronic gambling.

‘I must place all of my energy on my mental health and personal well-being, and therefore have tendered my resignation effective immediately,’ Peterson said in a statement.

The former state senator is also the subject of a federal probe, sources told The New Orleans Advocate.

While officials declined to divulge details about the investigation, they confirmed to the outlet that her finances and gambling addiction, first made public in 2019, will be the focus.

The military today is not the military that many of us served in.

A military unit is not inherently more moral than other segments of a populace. In fact, the opposite - history is replete with accounts of marauding armies, going in to rape, plunder and burn.

The American military, like American police forces, were inherently different. For different reasons, but they were different and they were forces - most times - for good. Yes, exceptions, I know.

Theirs, in both cases, is the best track record. But we've Transformed both. Incompetent, low-IQ racialists as cops; Woketard females as generals; God, religious beliefs, the Ten Commandments, chased out of the Army, Navy and Marines. What is left, is mostly a vacuum - although the Wokegenerals try to fill it with vague notions of Ray-Sissm, of Globalism, of Equity. And hatred of whites.

The Pentagon lost another top IT official on April 18, with the resignation of Preston Dunlap, the founding chief architecture officer of the Air and Space Forces.

In an open resignation letter posted to social media, Dunlap said that he was proud of the three years he spent at the Defense Department but that bureaucracy, a risk-averse culture, and other internal issues made innovation more difficult than it should have been.

He said that the department fostered an environment in which it was “hard, but not impossible” to innovate, and compared the effort required to break through Pentagon bureaucracy to the effort needed to push satellites past Earth’s gravity.

“I’ve spent the last three years working to defy gravity and get desperately needed technology into our operators’ hands,” Dunlap said.

“By the time the Government manages to produce something, it’s too often obsolete; no business would ever survive this way, nor should it.”​
