We had a good dump of rain yesterday and early this morning, that'll go a ways to dampen the fires raging here.

We're in another 'heat dome' may get up to 100F today. Friggin hot. Fires all around but none closer than ~ 50 miles so we're escaping the worst of it. So far. Last week a fire flared on the edge of town, it took the water bombers about 30 minutes from reporting to putting it out, I watched them. Those guys waste NO time.

They're trying to get our regular weather started again over here.

Yeah, no panic here. We can see and smell the smoke. Just looking across my yard it is evident. It is air from the wildfires in Canada.

Worked outside moving and climbing giant ladders. Totally sapped today and blowing off roof work for the day. Brutal!

Did you miss the deluge and flooding ? That was tragic.
That was in central/west Tennessee. We here in the East Tennessee mountains don't see much flooding.

Dark and cool.

The first leaves are turning. It's about ten days too early.

It's been hot here, but that was not normal - and wasn't sustainable. The winds aloft have normalized, and now, with the day and night hours about equalized, things get Rocky-Mountain cold nights.

Forty-three this morning at dawn. First frost in four weeks, statistically.

We seem to be catching the edge of everyone's sunny weather. But mostly its SOS.

Yup. Typical fall equinox weather in the Bitterroots. Still warm days - 80ish - but the temperature falls like a stone once the sun goes down. Forty-three this morning.

Meantime, the smoke and stink of the fires out West has dissipated. I suppose the cooler weather and various storms have helped the crews get a handle on them, in Washington and Oregon.

The first snow typically comes, as a brief storm that doesn't stick...about the fourth week of September. We're right on track.

Glow bull warming, my arse.

In watching the news a bit I find the news in the ne of catastrophic flooding from Ida intresting.... 3" of rain a hour in NYC being historic..... where I am regularly we get 3" a hour in the spring....worst I have had on my property was 9" a hour....I guess I mistakenly assumed the ne got heavy spring rains and could cope with this level of rain

So glad I left the Rust Belt and the Yeast Coast.

With the winds aloft shifting, the air here has been clear and fresh; the sun bright, the temperature seasonable. Days near 80. Nighttime lows, about 40.

You can go out on your patio for after-dinner drinks to watch the sun set...but even though it's warm out there, take a sweater. Before you finish your pitcher of margaritas, it'll be pitch-black and 55 degrees. Sun goes down, temperatures fall like a stone.

Such is life at elevation 4000 feet. In its own way, wonderful.

Tripping over infected junkies laying there on the sidewalk...or worse.

Twenty-five years ago, I lived in Denver, while Denver was being liberalized. Homelessness/vagrancy became a noble status, not a crime. Living just off downtown, I had a post office box, rather than have my mail stolen out of the apartment box, which wasn't locked. Never had been an issue until a few years prior.

So, Saturday noon I'm walking to the PO, and am braced by a crazed bum, who took offense to me using his sidewalk. He roused from his Boone Farm stupor, and chased me with a butterknife.

Fun times.

I'm open to a meeting in Washington State - although I don't know how we'd deal with the restrictions put on the unclean Refusniks - but please, not Seattle. A suburb, maybe; but not anywhere NEAR downtown.
