I've gone to a fair number of AA and Al-anon meetings most years, one local old timer knew Bill W. back in the early 70s. I'm seeing very few real alcoholics at these meetings, well over 50% are drug addicts in recovery as my brother was. Personally I have never been drunk, and have never gone into the deep end, I like an IPA occasionally.

I would think that through better nutrition and exercise that AA members could get healthier. Alcohol is basically sugar in a worse form; so rebuilding the organs that process sweet things should be vital; no junk food, lots of whole grains and veggies; yogurt, etc. would go a long way toward improving health.

How Did Your Life Change After You Quit Drinking Alcohol?

How you doing? I’m Kevin O’Hara for alcoholmastery.com

Today’s question is: How did your life change after your quit drinking alcohol? The question should be, how did your life not change?

Health - I stopped waking up during the night thinking I was going to die. I stopped having hangovers. The pains in my side stopped. Just the overall general feeling of feeling crap all the time – that stopped – and because I changed so many other things in my life because I stopped drinking alcohol, my health has improved dramatically.

My fitness levels have improved, my nutrition levels have improved, so many more things have improved health wise that I just, I feel like a different person now that I’ve stopped drinking.
Wealth. Wealth! Just think about all the money that you’re saving because you don’t drink any more; not only the money that you’re saving directly, because you don’t any more, but the money that you’re saving indirectly.

All the crap that you buy because you can’t be arsed cooking, the really crappy foods and the take-aways. Think about all the money that you lose because of the opportunity costs that you don’t take advantage of a lot of other things, because you can’t because your mind is influenced by alcohol, you know, before, during and after you drink.

Relationships. My relationships have improved, not only the ones that I’ve got that I hold very close and dear to me - my son my partner, my brothers and sisters, my parents when they were alive. they all improved - but my relationships with people.

I no longer wanted to be around certain people and because I was no longer around certain people, I just got rid of a lot of bad influences out of my life - because I stopped drinking alcohol.

What you consume drives gut biology, gut biology drives what you consume... loop. Energy from alcohol is consumed by the body first, then refined sugars, then refined carbs, complex carbs, proteins and fats. It is right up there on the food addiction scale, kill the bugs off thrive on it and you break the loop. Gut microbiology literally sends chemical signals to the mind driving the consumption of what they need, typically sugars in a modern diet.

So yes, in one sense it is part 'disease' if you consider bad gut microbiology an infection, which it kind of is. I noticed fundamental changes in my desire to consume alcohol and my taste in alcohol after long term fasting. I guess I killed off many of the bugs that thrived on it.

Not saying it is the be all and end all but it is a huge factor.

JMHO.

10 Steps To Stop Drinking Alcohol For Good

How you doing? I’m Kevin O’Hara for alcoholmastery.com

Today, I want to talk about ten steps to stop drinking alcohol for good.

Quitting drinking alcohol is very simple; it’s us that makes things complicated. Drinker’s make things complicated.

One of the reasons is because we are stuck between wanting to quit drinking alcohol, wanting to get our lives in gear, wanting to make ourselves healthy - be the past possible versions of ourselves, but also carrying on doing what we are all doing.

Carrying on with the habits, carrying on doing the same old, same old. The same old, same old, is not getting you anywhere. The same old, same old, is pulling you downwards; it’s pulling you towards what? Nothing. It’s pulling you towards a black hole, where there’s not much. There’s not much quality in life; there’s not much quantity in life.

Humans are addicted to complication. A lot of humans are addicted to complication and this is where I think a lot of people fail. It’s because they try and make things as complicated as possible.

Quitting drinking alcohol is really simple! You don’t put the stuff into your mouth. That’s it. Period. If you don’t put the alcohol in - you’ve quit. Everything else, it’s just on the, an aside; it’s things that you have to deal with.

Consider yourself if you’re starting a new job, or you’re starting a new career; you’re going to college for the first time. Anything that you’ve done that you’ve no experience at. You start from the frame of mind of, you don’t know what you’re doing, and everything’s uncomfortable. There’s a lot of discomfort. Go around your new house and everything’s new. All the habits that you used to have in your old house, you’ve got to relearn them in your new house.

It’s just a fact of life and this is what happens when you quit drinking alcohol.

What Do You Physically Feel When You Quit Drinking?

How you doing, I’m Kevin O’Hara for alcoholmastery.com

Today, I want to answer the question: how do you physically feel after you’ve stopped drinking alcohol?

A lot of it’s going to depend on so many different things. I can only speak about how I felt, the things that I went through after I’d stopped drinking. I can’t tell you about other people, but it does depend on so many different factors – your age, your alcohol consumption before you stopped, how long you were drinking; what types of alcohol you were drinking. All those kind of things are going to have an effect.

I think for the majority of people, you’re going to feel a relief. You are going to feel - there is an accumulation of alcohol. When you’re drinking alcohol, there is an accumulation of microdamage which over many years adds up to a lot more damage.

This is where liver damage comes from, kidney damage, heat damage, brain damage – it doesn’t happen overnight. It happens with microdamage that happening every time you have a drink.

When you stop drinking, you stop the flow and that’s the biggest thing is that the flow has been stopped and no more damage is going to be caused unless you’re at least - not by the alcohol. You can cause damage by other things, for instance, you can cause further liver damage depending on what you are eating or drinking - the other things you are eating and drinking.

When I stopped drinking first, I felt an instant relief. I didn’t have a hang-over going into work, I drank a half a glass of wine on the day that I stopped.

What Are the Unique Ways to Quit Alcohol or Tobacco?
AlcoholMasteryTV

Published on Sep 10, 2018
Click here to download my new book for free: https://alcoholmastery.com/10-steps-t...

It’s so nice to get up early; to get out, when it’s really hot. It’s just after seven o’clock in the morning. The sun’s just coming up behind me, and it’s going to be a good day.

The question today is: What are the unique ways to quit alcohol or tobacco?

Really, what are you asking when you’re asking, “What are the unique ways?” What I get from this, is that you’re asking, “What are the easy ways?”, or “What are the simple ways?” What are the ways that you can do it, without discomfort?

No matter what you try and do in this life, anything that is of value is going to cost you in terms of discomfort. It’s uncomfortable to do something which is going to make huge changes in your life, which is going to help you to make big strides in your life - it’s going to be uncomfortable.

That’s especially true when you’re talking about something like habit change, something huge, something massive: like habit change.

When you’ve got a habit that you’ve had for such a long time, it’s going to take a long time before it disappears and in those initial days, it’s going to take some discomfort - but that’s just part and parcel of the process. If you don’t go through that discomfort, you’re not going to get to the next stage.

So, stop looking for magic bullet ways to get through this. It’s not going to happen; there is no way - no matter what you do. You go to the most expensive dry out clinic and you’re still going to have to do the job yourself. You are still going to have to go through the discomfort.

When you are asking questions like this, the best way of doing it is to stop doing it.

What Is the Easiest Way to Quit Drinking Alcohol Long
AlcoholMasteryTV

Click here to download my new book for free: https://alcoholmastery.com/10-steps-t...

How’re you doing? I’m Kevin O’Hara for https://alcoholmastery.com

Today’s question is: What’s the easiest way to quit drinking alcohol?

Why is everyone looking for the easiest way to doing things? I’ll tell you what the easiest way to quit drinking alcohol is. It’s the only way to quit drinking alcohol and that is - to stop putting the stuff into your mouth in the first place!

There is no other way of doing this. If you go cold turkey and you stop drinking straight away, you don’t put any more alcohol into your mouth again – you’ve quit.

If you go to a dry out clinic for six months and it’s costing you thirty grand a month, one hundred and eighty thousand in total - you’ve still got to do the same thing. You might have people there that are watching you, that are putting you in the right environment and stuff like that, but you’ve still got to keep the alcohol out of your mouth. You’ve still not got to put it into your mouth in order to quit drinking alcohol. It’s the only way to quit.

You do it on your own for six months and face up to the realities of life, right after that six months - you are going to be in a much better position to deal with life.

If you go into a dry out clinic for six months, after that six months is over, and you haven’t put a drop of alcohol into your mouth, you’ve got to come back out and then you’ve got to start dealing with reality.

This is where most people fall backwards - most people fail. It’s because they’re being taken out of the natural environment, put into this other environment - that is a fantasy world - and then once they are put back into the natural environment again, things don’t look as rosy as they should do. Everything goes back to normal – reality lands.

Stop looking for the easy way out – look for something which is going to last a long time. Look for the changes that are going to change you. Look for the way of quitting drinking, which is going to change you the most. Look for the way of quitting drinking alcohol, which is the right way of doing it.

Not putting the stuff into your mouth is the only way you’re ever going to achieve this thing. There’s no shortcut in life; so stop looking for shortcuts.

A Slave to Fewer Things
AlcoholMasteryTV

How’re doing, I'm Kevin O'Hara for www.alcoholmastery.com

Today I want to talk about being a slave to fewer things. One of my favourite physicists and I’m not a big one on physicists or anything like that, but this guy has always fascinated me from the first time I saw time. There’s a guy called Richard Feynman - just have a listen to this what he’s talking about. Some physics of very ordinary things.

"This picture of atoms is a beautiful one, that you can keep looking at all kinds of things this way. You see a little drop of water, a tiny drop and the atoms attract each other. They like to be next to each other, they want as many partners as they can get. Now the guys that are at the surface have only partners on one side here in the air and the other side, so they are trying to get in and you can imagine, this team of people, these teeming people, all moving very fast, all trying to get to have as many partners as possible and the guys at the edge are very unhappy and nervous and they keep pounding in, trying to get in and that makes it’s a tight ball instead of a flat and that’s what, you know, surface tension, the way you will realise when you see how sometimes a water drop sits like this on a table and then you can start to imagine why it sits like that, because everybody’s trying to get into the water. At the same time while all of this is happening, there are these atoms that are leaving the surface and the water drop is slowly disappearing."

Now Richard Feynman stopped drinking back in 1949, he’s dead a few years now. In 1949 he was going about his daily business, he was passing a pub or an off-license or something and he felt the pull of, a pull towards having a drink. He understood at that moment that he was having an intense craving, that he was having this disconcerted feeling within himself, this pull towards something which he didn’t really think about a few seconds before and then all of a sudden he’s got this pull and he didn’t like and he stopped straight away, he stopped drinking straight away.

  • A new online gallery compiled by Bored Panda features jaw-dropping before and after photos of men and women of all ages who chose to quit drinking
  • A majority of the images were originally posted on Reddit by people who were celebrating their sobriety
  • Many of the people underwent dramatic physical transformations, and some look completely unrecognizable now that they are sober

US doctors told to screen ALL adults for alcohol abuse: Task force says physicians are not doing enough to spot and curb alcoholism

  • The new guidelines offer a subtle change to the long-standing advice that doctors should be on the look out for alcoholism
  • Researchers say many doctors fail to do so, and very few offer advice or counseling to patients who throw up some red flags
  • At least 88,000 deaths a year were attributed to alcohol in the US between 2006 and 2010
