Judge Upholds Ghislaine Maxwell’s Sex Trafficking Conviction

A federal judge on Friday upheld Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex trafficking conviction – the top count she was convicted of at trial – but tossed two of the three conspiracy counts against her because they charge the same offense.
In an order filed Friday afternoon, Judge Alison Nathan upheld Maxwell’s conviction on transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and sex trafficking of minors, which the disgraced socialite faces the harshest penalties for.
But, Nathan ruled, the three conspiracy counts Maxwell was convicted of are “multiplicitous,” and sentencing the convicted sex trafficker on all of them would violate the Fifth Amendment’s Double Jeopardy Clause.
Nathan will therefore sentence Maxwell on one conspiracy count – count three – as well as the sex trafficking and transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity counts.
She now faces a maximum sentence of 55 years in prison at sentencing, which is slated for June.
In her order, which was a response to a post-trial motion by Maxwell’s legal team to throw out her conviction on all counts, Nathan wrote the three conspiracy counts charged Maxwell for the same “overarching conspiracy” that she engaged in with Jeffrey Epstein for decades.
“The overarching conspiracy—which, as the Government argued and proved at trial, employed a single ‘playbook’ to groom and sexually abuse underage girls—constitutes a single conspiracy offense with multiple victims,” Nathan wrote.
Because the Double Jeopardy clause blocks judges from issuing the punishments for the same offense, Maxwell will only be sentenced on one of the conspiracy counts, Nathan wrote.

.Gov worries more about NOT getting THEIR MONEY more than they will over a pedo-madam.
She has enough money and lawyers, any sentence she receives, will get cut down to FIVE YEARS at the most and not count Good Time Reductions all inmates get as long as they do not commit further grievous violations while in prison.
Plus her lawyers will fine tons of medical issues which will require her to go to a medical prison while she gets care and treatment or Cleared For Gen. Pop.
By that time her appealed sentence will have been reduced.

Maxwell, who was convicted of recruiting young girls for Epstein to sexually abuse from 1994 to 2004, is scheduled to be sentenced on June 28.
Her lawyers said the abuse she allegedly suffered as a child at the hands of her father made her vulnerable to Epstein’s influence.
“She had a difficult, traumatic childhood with an overbearing, narcissistic, and demanding
father,” the lawyers said. “It made her vulnerable to Epstein, whom she met right after her father’s death.”
In one instance when Maxwell was 13 years old, her father allegedly hammered her dominant hand — leaving it bruised and painful for weeks — when he grew outraged that she hammered a poster onto her freshly painted bedroom wall, the attorneys claim.
The lawyers also asked for a lighter sentence on the basis that Maxwell suffered a worse imprisonment than typical pretrial detainees with “conditions far more onerous and punitive.”

I've read many Pre-sentence Investigation Reports (PSIs) of female inmates that would leave one "Beat Freak" relationship only to find another "Beat Freak" usually worse than the one she left.
Many only broke the habit due to prison time away from the abuser.
OBTW: Female inmates get less than half the visitors the average male inmate gets, yet will have more approved visitors listed that just never come to see them.

Convicted in December of helping deceased billionaire Jeffrey Epstein get teenagers and young women for sex, Ghislaine Maxwell is scheduled to be sentenced June 28. The British socialite is asking for a light sentence, citing a troubled upbringing and alleged death threats from a fellow inmate.
Maxwell was convicted December 29 by a New York City jury after three accusers said they were teenagers when Epstein’s gal pal set them up for sexual abuse by the disgraced billionaire. The women testified that Maxwell encouraged them to give Epstein massages that escalated to sex.
Epstein was a billionaire who died under suspicious circumstances at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center in August 2019. He was reportedly assigned watchers to guard against suicide. Two guards were later found to have falsified records saying they had made their appointed rounds to keep an eye on the suspected pedophile. Both guards were allowed to resign without prosecution.
In February, model agent Jean-Luc Brunel was found hanged in his Paris prison cell. Brunel was introduced to Epstein by Maxwell and French authorities suspected him of multiple cases of raping minors.
Maxwell’s lawyers contend that Maxwell was moved into the jail’s general population after her conviction. The Oxford University graduate reportedly worked as an orderly and “eagerly provided a wide variety of assistance to the women in her unit, including G.E.D. tutoring.”
It was in “genpop” the Epstein associate was allegedly targeted by a fellow inmate, whom Maxwell’s legal team claimed constituted “a credible death threat.”
A prisoner in her housing unit told at least three other inmates she had been offered money to murder Maxwell, according to a New York Times report. The allegedly murderous convict reportedly planned to strangle Epstein’s gal pal in her sleep, her lawyers claimed.
The inmate who made the threat was moved to a different unit, “presumably to protect Ms. Maxwell,” the report noted.
To further bolster her ask for leniency when sentenced, the socialite told the sad tale of her childhood dominated by a mean father shuttling her between boarding schools and mansions.

Ghislaine Maxwell cited her relationship with former President Bill Clinton as a reason to lessen her sentence for trafficking underage girls for her former partner Jeffrey Epstein.
Maxwell referenced her work with Clinton’s philanthropic efforts, specifically her efforts in launching the Clinton Global Initiative, as proof that she has a “desire to do good in the world,” and therefore she should only be sentenced to four years in jail.

Epstein’s former partner was found guilty of trafficking and sexually abusing underage girls last December and will be sentenced on Monday.
Maxwell not only claimed that she had received death threats in prison, but had also been told by her guards that “there was concern she could be shot by a sniper,” the alleged explanation for why she was being held in such high security conditions.
Her 77-page filing claims that prosecutors made her a scapegoat for Epstein, who hung himself in 2019 while awaiting trial. It also references “history of philanthropy, charitable work, and helping others, namely her work with the Clinton Global Initiative.”
“Ms. Maxwell has always worked hard,” the filing says. “Her many educational, occupational, and avocational accomplishments include becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), a helicopter pilot, a submersible pilot, a banker; partnering with the Cleveland Clinic to establish a telemedicine platform to enable people in remote areas to obtain quality medical treatment; helping develop the Clinton Global Initiative; and supporting a variety non-profit and charitable organizations.”
It also claims that she is not an “heiress, villain, or vapid socialite,” saying instead that “she has energy, drive, commitment, a strong work ethic, and desire to do good in the world.”
“She has supported friends and family through tough times and personal crisis and currently is assisting women in her unit at the MDC. She has endeavored to contribute to society….(by) helping launch the Clinton Global Initiative.”
The new information puts scrutiny on the relationship between Maxwell, Clinton and Epstein. Photographs taken in 2002 show Clinton and Maxwell on the stairs of the “Lolita Express,” Epstein’s private plane. The relationship between Clinton, Maxwell and Epstein can be traced back to 1990 at a minimum when the three were photographed at the White House together.
Clinton has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that he never visited Epstein’s Caribbean island.
