Julian Assange arrested by British police at Ecuadorean embassy

LONDON, April 11 (Reuters) - WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was arrested by British police on Thursday after they were invited into the Ecuadorean embassy where he has been holed up since 2012.

"Julian Assange, 47, has today, Thursday 11 April, been arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) at the Embassy of Ecuador," police said.

Police said they arrested Assange after being "invited into the embassy by the Ambassador, following the Ecuadorean government's withdrawal of asylum."

Julian Assange: Wikileaks co-founder arrested in London- BBC News
BBC News

Published on Apr 11, 2019
Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange has been arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

Mr Assange took refuge in the embassy seven years ago to avoid extradition to Sweden over a sexual assault case that has since been dropped.

The Met Police said he was arrested for failing to surrender to the court.

Ecuador's president Lenin Moreno said it withdrew Mr Assange's asylum after his repeated violations to international conventions.

But WikiLeaks tweeted that Ecuador had acted illegally in terminating Mr Assange's political asylum "in violation of international law".

WikiLeaks Founder Charged in Computer Hacking Conspiracy

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Julian P. Assange, 47, the founder of WikiLeaks, was arrested today in the United Kingdom pursuant to the U.S./UK Extradition Treaty, in connection with a federal charge of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion for agreeing to break a password to a classified U.S. government computer.

According to court documents unsealed today, the charge relates to Assange’s alleged role in one of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the United States.

The indictment alleges that in March 2010, Assange engaged in a conspiracy with Chelsea Manning, a former intelligence analyst in the U.S. Army, to assist Manning in cracking a password stored on U.S. Department of Defense computers connected to the Secret Internet Protocol Network (SIPRNet), a U.S. government network used for classified documents and communications. Manning, who had access to the computers in connection with her duties as an intelligence analyst, was using the computers to download classified records to transmit to WikiLeaks.

Cracking the password would have allowed Manning to log on to the computers under a username that did not belong to her. Such a deceptive measure would have made it more difficult for investigators to determine the source of the illegal disclosures.

During the conspiracy, Manning and Assange engaged in real-time discussions regarding Manning’s transmission of classified records to Assange. The discussions also reflect Assange actively encouraging Manning to provide more information. During an exchange, Manning told Assange that “after this upload, that’s all I really have got left.” To which Assange replied, “curious eyes never run dry in my experience.”

Assange is charged with conspiracy to commit computer intrusion and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, John C. Demers, Assistant Attorney General for National Security, and Nancy McNamara, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, made the announcement after the charges were unsealed.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Doherty-McCormick, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kellen S. Dwyer, Thomas W. Traxler and Gordon D. Kromberg, and Trial Attorneys Matthew R. Walczewski and Nicholas O. Hunter of the Justice Department’s National Security Division are prosecuting the case.

The extradition will be handled by the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs.

A copy of this press release is located on the website of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. Related court documents and information are located on the website of the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia or on PACER by searching for Case No. 1:18-cr-111.

An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

So essentially, he was wanted for the Swedish allegation. Took refuge in the embassy so breached his bail. Warrant issued. Swedish allegation dropped, but warrant upheld in 2018.

Seems like fuckery to me, but that's the way the UK courts seem to roll.

An arrest warrant for the Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been upheld by Westminster Magistrates' Court.

The warrant was issued in 2012 when Mr Assange, 46, breached bail conditions by seeking political refuge at the Ecuadorean embassy.

On Tuesday, the judge said he needed to face justice for breaching bail and therefore the warrant should remain.

Mr Assange, who has been staying at the embassy since 2012, tweeted his "surprise" at the decision.

His bail was set in relation to sexual assault allegations he faced in Sweden. The allegations were dropped in May 2017.

Under the warrant, Mr Assange would be arrested as soon as he left Ecuadorean soil.

As there is not an extradition treaty between the UK and Ecuador, he cannot be arrested inside the embassy.

Tweet of the Day (so far). By the way, Turley is a Democrat.

@JonathanTurley 19
Assange committed the unpardonable sins of embarrassing the establishment — from members of Congress to intelligence officials to the media. And he will now be punished for our sins.

He's going to cut a deal with Trump. Spill all the bean for one or two years behind bars in country-club jail. Watch deep state heads explode.

An all out pardon would be really ballsy but don't know if it's worth the political backlash.
All this bullshit over a guy letting us know what's really going on.
Why isn't this kind of vengeance used to get the treasonous hag ? :totally steamed::rage 1:witch:

This is how A REAL THREAT TO THE DEEP-STATE is treated.

Trump looks the other way, of course.

I guess there is no statute of limitations in the u.k. ?

Indeed. I believe Julian Assange has been one of my heroes for years. And he has sacrificed a huge part of his life already in payment for his heroic deeds.

"Mr Assange was arrested this morning"

That's a stretch, more like: imperial government forces broke in and captured Mr Assange's body today....

It's actually the perfect place for "Mr. P". He'd set the entire country on fire if it meant Trump would burn with it.

You can forget all about MAGA my friend, but of course you know this.
If you remember, I believed MAGA was DOA from the moment TPTB coined the phrase.

I knew this all along, as did many others here, but didn't want to upset all the newbies to the forum (some probably shills and others probably not).
I was attacked non stop during 2016 here at this forum. Many here treated me as if I was some new paid arrival.

Yet, you know and the aware members here know I've been blogging by the same handle since the year 2000. I've been telling the truth, JMHO, and things the way I see them, regardless if 99.9% of the forum wants to call me names and throw out non stop attacks.

Absolutely nobody of any fame or fortune is telling the truth.
And if someone leaks a little bit of the truth then boom, it's suicide by 2 bullets to the back of the head for the not so famous and worse for those at the Assange levels.

Who really owns the FED? How much money have they stolen from us over the decades, exactly?
Until the truth can be found and recognized by all, there will be no roll back on this road to tyranny.

Oh, and btw, you know and I know that Russia, Zerozone, and China/Asia are much further along that road that we are.

The West, the Americas and freedom itself is now arriving at the point of no return. Why is immigration made the #1 topic in the media and poltic circles? It's because liberty's last chance would be to embrace and educate Kanucks and Latin Americans to join with us and help us prepare for the attacks which will come from the East - 5 billion people adopting and accepting tyranny and winner take all mercenary work is going to be a much harder fight than MAGA would be.

They have learned from us and our MIC, and now they're getting ready to take things to the next level. They don't need 770B in MIC funding, all they need to do is have the people willing, the economic strings in place and the numbers - and they have us. The math is overwhelming.

But alas, no MAGA and no education for our side of the planet (maybe a cursory tweet and a quick walk thru of ft knox) ... but the absolute last thing TPTB would want now would be for us to come together using the truth over here on our side of the globe. Our guns, the truth, education and cooperation are the focus of their attacks - there's a reason why that is.

This is evidence that we have criminals that are recognized as such & we have criminals disguised as government. We are able to deal with the "recognized criminals" BUT the "disguised criminals" are the real threat to our lives & those who put their lives on the line to expose the disguised criminals !
Flush the toilet, Mr. President, flush the toilet !

Doesn't work through deception, nor alone.

Education and Truth are required and those 2 things don't exist in the white house and haven't for a long time.

The last hope for liberty is on this side of the planet among the few hundred million workers who still remain with some level of understanding about it.

But our current POTUS leading the charge? HAHAHAHHA, ..... he's doing everything he can to create divisions, distractions and deceptions.

Those are the opposite of collective truths, education and unity for liberty. Yeah, flush it after he jumps into it.

I posted about these 3 tactics constantly at GIM1. You can tell a lot about their true agenda when you break apart the lies and how they go about attacking those things which remain as our last and final hopes for liberty.

Without agreeing or disagreeing with this statement, I'll just say that IF this statement is correct, Trump is not nearly as skilled at it as Obama was.

So why did Ecuador give him up? https://www.imf.org/en/News/Article...rlJ09q2O7obPLS4AaRaLoIZmKFfKSf-h6ysjmNyyhaCnU

Everyone has their price.

In this world it is the people against the governments around the world. At this point the Gov could post a sign that says free train rides and the lines would go on forever even though the train always returns empty. Gov would just say that the people on the last load were so excited when they got there that they didn't want to come back.

Why? Is there some hurry? As I said and will repeat again since I don't think you read that part....

Education, the Truth and Guns are the issue and we still have number 3 on that list still somewhat within our capabilities.
So if you did actually read it, or if you did finally now, then are you saying we're supposed to just give up without a fight?

They did that already in '89 over there in China, but they weren't armed, we are, so what's your hurry?

Actually, Trump is doing great there.

TPTB like to push the limits of acceptance. They want to make sure that if they repeat something over and over, it doesn't matter how skillful or how true of course. What matters is the acceptance regardless any other factor.

It is simple propaganda 101, Trump is playing on script perfectly. He's been on TV before. What's going so wrong? Pretty much two-thirds the people in the nation , who don't have a national border, are already on board that the border and the immigrants are our #1 problem. Looks like a success story to me.
