WTF is wrong with people?

Never mind, it was the gun's fault.

Man Fatally Shot By Neighbor After Alleged Dog Pee Argument, Witnesses Say
By Charlie De Mar
August 7, 2018 at 10:25 pm

CHICAGO (CBS) — As Chicago Police add more officers to communities, many residents in crime-ridden communities are afraid the crime isn’t going to stop.

One of the victims of gun violence this past weekend died, allegedly, over something as small as a dog relieving itself on someone else’s property.

Police say the fatal shooting happened in the 7700 block of South Shore on August 3 around 8:45 p.m. The victim was struck in the left arm and chest and pronounced dead on the scene.

It is the sad reality of how quick people are to pull a gun.

CBS 2’s Charlie De Mar reports neighbors are finding it hard to wrap their heads around, as their neighbor, Earl Young, was fatally shot over the weekend. Young was about to marry his fiancé and things were looking bright when a petty argument, allegedly over his dogs, ended his life.

Darnell Payne is not only the Dean of Sullivan House alternative school and a pastor, he’s also a mentor to many men.

He’s opened up his home to many of them.

“We get the ones CPS no longer wants,” Payne said. “They are just little boys. Hurt people hurt people.”

30-year-old Earl Young was one of those boys with a troubled past who Payne took in and turned around for the better. Young was a great basketball player, father, and soon-to-be husband.

“Puppies. I have to smile because I’m so close to crying,” Payne said.

Young was murdered Friday. He was one of 12 killed over the violent weekend in Chicago.

Payne says it all stemmed from Young’s two puppies on the porch of his Southshore home.

“The puppies were peeing on the porch. The pee ran down the porch to the neighbor’s,” he explained.

Police say Young and the neighbor exchanged words before the neighbor shot and killed him.

“How are we so petty now that we live in a world that you could lose your life over puppy pee?” questioned Payne.

Balloons were released in Young’s memory, as they were for many others across Chicago this week.

Payne admits he doesn’t have all of the answers, but says he knows where to start.

“I’m upset everyone is making this so political, but it’s so simple and that’s actually caring about where these kids are and what they are doing,” he said.

As others look to Payne for comfort and a proper send off this weekend, he is also in pain over the petty killing of one of his own.

“I have to stand before 3,400 people Saturday and make them think everything is going to be okay, when I’m not sure that everything is going to be okay,” Payne said.

Despite several witnesses, police say no arrest have been made in this case.

Kinda hard to believe these fools are so stupid they can't see or realize the bike is tethered with a rope, and that riding it will come to an abrupt end at the end of it's rope...

That pic in the op is interesting, as I recognize the building. I grew up on the 7600 block of South Shore...

Can we just build a big cage around it and treat it like a zoo? Make it a big theme park. Calabrian Park, if you will. You can either do pay per view or actually take an internal expedition. Includes 2 offensive operations permits. Self defense is of course expected and encouraged.
Looks like John Carpenter and Kurt Russell got it wrong. New York isn't a paradise, but it should have been Escape from Chicago, as a maximum security prison, with walls surrounding the city. Russell's still alive and making films and I think Carpenter is, too. They should team up and do an updated film, Escape from Chicongo. Only this time, the premise isn't the president's plane went down inside the prison-city. This time, BHO is trying to break out and Snake Plisken has to go in and stop him, before he gets out and spreads more communism and muhammedanism in America.

Chicago's Violence Is Out-of-Control: Who's At Fault?

Violence in Chicago has been a problem for some time now. But it's now out-of-control with 74 people shot last week! The people committing the violence are responsible, but how has government helped to foster such an environment?

  • So far this year over 1,800 people have been shot in the city's violent crimewave
  • Seven people were shot at a playground 'peace picnic' on Saturday evening
  • Authorities have described the city as a 'war zone' with many calling for change
  • President Donald Trump blamed mayor Rahm Emanuel who he called 'corrupt'

For Second Weekend This Month, At Least 60 People Shot In Chicago; 8 Killed, 53 Wounded
August 20, 2018 at 9:59 am
CHICAGO (CBS) — Sixty-one people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, eight of them fatally, including two missing teenage boys found dead in a field late Sunday night. The bloodshed made for the second most violent weekend of the year in Chicago, and the second weekend this month at least 60 people were shot.

Police Supt. Eddie Johnson planned to speak about the weekend’s shootings at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Chicago Police Headquarters.

CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said three people of interest were in custody in connection with some of the shootings as of Monday morning. Officers also shut down 68 gatherings over the weekend for illegal activity, seized 83 guns, and arrested 29 people on gun charges.

Supt. Eddie Johnson will brief reporters on case progress & weekend violence this morning at 1030 @ CPD HQ. 3 people of interest have been taken into custody thus far: 68 gatherings were shut down for illegal activity; 83 guns seized & 29 arrested on gun charges since Friday.
9:49 AM - Aug 20, 2018

Most recently, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were found shot and killed in a field on the edge of Golden Gate Park at 130th and Eberhart. The father of one boy identified him as 16-year-old Raysuan Turner. The other boy’s identity has not been confirmed, but community activist Andrew Holmes said both boys had been reported missing on Friday.

The weekend’s other fatal shootings included:
• Daquan Albright, 17, was shot and killed near 73rd and Claremont around 6:15 p.m. Sunday,
• a 19-year-old man shot and killed near 40th and Calumet around 3:30 p.m. Sunday,
• Dennis Thomas Jr., 33, was shot and killed while sitting in a car in the 4600 block of North Clifton around 8:10 a.m. Sunday,
• a 23-year-old man shot in the back on the sidewalk on the 2300 block of West 72nd around 8 p.m. Saturday,
• a 27-year-old man shot and killed near 70th and Sangamon shortly before 3 p.m. Friday,
• and 15-year-old Steven Rosenthal, who authorities say shot himself in the head while fleeing police Friday evening.
Rosenthal’s family has disputed that he killed himself, and is demanding to see police body camera video of the incident. Police have said ballistics and camera evidence shows no officers fired their weapons, but the department has not said if it will release body camera video.
The weekend’s bloodshed also included at least two mass shootings.
Five people were wounded in a shooting after a softball game Sunday night in the South Shore neighborhood. Police said someone in a black van opened fire near 75th and Dante shortly before 11 p.m., striking four men and a woman.
A 30-year-old man shot in the ankle, a 40-year-old woman shot in the calf, a 42-year-old man shot in the arm, and an adult male shot in the chest all were being treated at the University of Chicago trauma center. The man shot in the chest was in serious condition, the other three were not seriously hurt. A 26-year-old man who was shot in the leg was stabilized at Jackson Park Hospital & Medical Center.
The other mass shooting happened Friday night in the Englewood neighborhood. Police said six of the people were out in front of a home near 65th and Marshfield, enjoying a summer evening, when they heard gunfire and realized they had been shot. The victims included a 3-year-old boy. A seventh person was struck by a stray bullet in her back yard.
• Victim #1: A 27-year-old was shot in the torso and transported to University of Chicago Hospital, where he was stabilized.
• Victim #2: A 3-year-old boy was shot in the left shin and transported to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was stabilized.
• Victim #3: A 30-year-old man was shot in the left leg and transported to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was stabilized.
• Victim #4: A 29-year-old man was shot in the left calf and drove himself to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was stabilized.
• Victim #5: A 30-year-old man was shot in the lower back and drove himself to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
• Victim #6: A 26-year-old man was shot in the left and and left leg and was drove himself to to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was stabilized.
• Victim #7: A 38-year-old woman’s left arm was grazed by a bullet. She was treated on the scene.
Police sources said the area is known for gang activity, but that hasn’t been linked to the crime just yet.
Meantime, at a Saturday picnic organized to promote peace, people had gathered in Seward Park when some young people came by and started shooting. At least htree people were wounded in the attack, including a 28-year-old man who was critically wounded. A fourth person was beaten at the scene.
The bloody weekend comes two weeks after the most violent weekend of the year in Chicago, when 66 people were shot on the first weekend of August, 12 of them fatally. That weekend’s shootings prompted the Chicago Police Department to deploy hundreds of extra officers to five of the districts hardest hit by gun violence.

The news isn't all bad...the funeral homes are making a fortune.
A criminal fortune that is.

Chicago's predatory funeral homes target homicide victims, cash in on taxpayer-funded expenses

By Barnini Chakraborty| Fox News

Escalating violence in Chicago: By the numbers
A look at the growing violence in Chicago and what lawmakers and police there are saying about it

CHICAGO – Predatory funeral homes have been accused of cashing in on Chicago’s relentless crime wave by taking advantage of a taxpayer-funded scheme that pays $7,500 in funeral expenses for homicide victims’ families.

Advocates have accused some funeral directors of inflating prices or charging families for services they never received.

“Every funeral home in the state knows that victims get $7,500 for a funeral and it’s their goal to charge the entire amount because it’s easy money,” Susan Johnson, executive director of Chicago Survivors, told Fox News.

CHICAGO MAYOR FIRES BACK AT TRUMP AFTER PRESIDENT SLAMS CITY'S CRIME RATE, 'SANCTUARY' STATUS

Johnson, whose organization helps people who have lost loved ones to homicide, claims some zero in on people receiving money from the Illinois Crime Victim’s Compensation fund.

The state – along with the federal government – provides eligible victims of violent crime with up to $27,000 in financial assistance for out-of-pocket expenses. The families of murder victims get $7,500 for funeral costs.
According to the National Funeral Directors Association, the average cost of a funeral for an adult is between $7,000 and $8,300. The Federal Trade Commission puts the figure slightly higher at around $10,000.

In recent months, Chicago has gained national notoriety for its soaring crime rate. Even with an additional 600 officers on the streets, 58 people were shot last weekend - seven fatally (2018 Getty Images)

The $7,500 from the Crime Victim’s Compensation fund is supposed to go toward staff salary, use of facilities, transportation, a casket as well as other memorialization costs. The price jumps if flowers, clothing or an obituary is added.

Johnson, a former pastor, says she’s seen families who have been overbilled and underserved.

GETAWAY DRIVER IN CHICAGO SHOOTING OF 15-YEAR-OLD HADIYA PENDLETON CONVICTED OF MURDER
In one case, she claims a funeral home held a body hostage because the family could not come up with additional funds after being quoted one price but charged a higher amount.

“It happens all the time,” she said.

She added that even though there are laws in place to protect consumers and prevent funeral homes from cold calling families or soliciting outside the medical examiner’s office, few offenders ever face consequences.

The bad behavior is allowed in part because cash-strapped cities like Chicago lack the resources to crack down on fraudsters, giving greedy operators the green light to target grief-stricken families.

In recent months, the Windy City has gained national notoriety for its soaring crime rate. Even with an additional 600 officers on the streets, 58 people were shot last weekend - seven fatally.

CHICAGO POLICE CHIEF BLAMES CITY VIOLENCE ON LENIENT JUDGES AND PROSECUTORS

Rooting out funeral fraud, by comparison, is not something on the radar of authorities.

“It’s not a high priority,” Johnson said, adding that she’s been privately told there are simply not enough resources at the national, state or local level to go after those trying to bilk the system.

“That’s the excuse of every government agency, isn’t it?” Joshua Solcum, executive director of the Funeral Consumers Alliance, told Fox News.
Solcum, who describes his non-profit organization as the “Consumer Reports magazine of funerals,” says he too has heard horror stories of funeral homes taking advantage of people.

“(The families) have an ethical right to be angry,” he said. “It’s one of the worst ways to victimize people.”

Some funeral homes have driven up prices so high that the families couldn’t afford burial costs.

RAHM EMANUEL UNDER INCREASING FIRE FOR LINKING CHICAGO VIOLENCE AND MORALS IN MINORITY NEIGHBORHOODS

The Illinois attorney general’s office, as well as multiple state and local leaders, declined to comment on what – if anything – it is doing to combat the problem.

The National Funeral Directors Association maintains its members are required to abide by the code of professional conduct “which is centered on an obligation to serve families in an honest and fair manner.”

The organization told Fox News that all funeral homes in the United States must adhere to the FTC’s funeral rule which “requires transparency when discussing prices with families.”

And though consumers can file complaints with the FTC, the agency tends to act only after seeing patterns of abuse, multiple sources told Fox News.

Another reason some funeral homes are not held to account is because victims’ families are often too emotionally drained to report abuses.
“They’ve had it,” Johnson said. “They have just gotten through the worst thing in their lives and they don’t want to get into a protracted fight with a funeral home.”

Johnson says grieving relatives are often asked to sign additional documents at the viewing or just before the funeral begins. Most of the time they don’t know what they are signing or are still in so much shock that they fail to comprehend what’s happening.

Items that they don’t need or services that were never rendered get tacked onto the bill.

“It’s disgusting,” she said.

In one particularly shocking case, a 45-year-old woman’s body had been partially burned. The funeral home failed to pick up her remains in time for the service. Instead, they put an empty casket in front of the church and didn’t tell the family. When the victim’s 19-year-old son demanded to see his mother’s body, the funeral director eventually produced a second casket. When it was opened, mourners were horrified that the mortician failed to dress the body as they claimed they had. The last image the son had of his murdered mother was a charred and mangled mess.

In another incident, a Chicago funeral director decided to cancel a viewing and service four hours before it began. He based his decision on faulty information that the victim was part of a gang. Johnson, who was assisting the family, says she repeatedly told the funeral director this was not the case, going so far as to get the commander of the police to call and vouch for the victim.

When Johnson kept pushing, she claims the funeral director hissed, “‘What are you, an effing lawyer?’”

“And he didn’t use the word effing,” she added.

Solcum believes that even if some people feel betrayed by the system, they should still voice their complaints.

“I would say directly to any family… please, please speak up.”

NOT purposely high jacking the thread but this relates to the criminal mind's mentality:
I was exposed to an on-going Criminal Family Enterprise out of New Orleans, LA.
The "Queen" of the enterprise had produced NINE offspring and every one of them were involved in the "Family Business".
The "Queen" had put cheap Term Life insurance policies on the "daddies" who through the years ended up taking the "Dirty Nap" during drug transactions.
Once the "daddies" ran out "The Queen" would bet on the kids by doing the same life insurance scheme on them.
Every time one went down she moved some of the money to cover her next "kid", pocket some cash, and buy more product.

She lost three kids before she was sent to prison. She lost two more while she was doing time.

The other female inmates treated her like their own grandmother, always "doing" for the kind ol' lady.
I guess they never got wise to her betting on her own kids which one would die next. For her it was "Just Business".

In 99% Black Park Manor Community in South Side of Chicago, Black Business Owners Fear Burglaries/Violence

What is life like in a community in America less than one percent white and nearly 99 percent black?

Let's take a look at Park Manor neighborhood in Chicago. [Black-owned businesses fear burglary in Park Manor, Chicago Sun-Times, 8-27-18]:
Businesses in the Park Manor neighborhood tended to the afternoon rush during a humid Monday afternoon. People ducked in bakeries or convenience stores seeking refuge from the heat, others walked into a barbecue restaurant. Residents laughed while walking down the street, and some even shouted at the weather in frustration.
Other than the heat, it was a typical afternoon on the South Side of Chicago.
Park Manor demographics in South Side of Chicago... a community completely devoid of white privilege (or white people)
Except for a couple of businesses that were suddenly closed Sunday on what they considered the busiest day of the week. The unplanned and temporary closure forced surrounding businesses to reflect on their own vulnerability.
Several black-owned businesses along the 75th Street commercial corridor, which spans from Wabash Avenue to Cottage Grove Avenue, are concerned after burglaries at Harold’s Chicken and 5 Loaves Eatery that forced the two businesses to shut down operations on Sunday after someone cut their electrical wires to steal the copper wiring.
The burglary could’ve happened anytime between 4 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m.
Sunday, according to Chicago Police. No one has been arrested.
“We lost upwards of $2,000 worth of food when the electricity went out. It’s a small amount to some, but it is a big chunk [of money] to us,” said Constance Simms-Kincaid, owner of 5 Loaves Eatery.
Simms-Kincaid said the wiring from her electricity has been stolen four times in the last seven years. She’s grateful this time it closed her business for only one day, but she remembers when she had to shut down for almost four months.
“We were really struggling, and it really knocked us off our feet,” she said. “I was forced to get another job just so I could pay my employees in time when payroll was due.”
Darnell Gaffney, owner of the neighboring Space Age Marketing, said he found it odd when he came to work Sunday and saw 5 Loaves Eatery closed.
“This is really unfortunate to have this happen to them. [5 Loaves Eatery] do great work in the community, and people come from all over just to dine at their restaurant. If they’re not safe, none of us around here are,” Gaffney said.
Lem’s Bar-B-Q has been serving barbecue in Park Manor since 1968. William Lemons, who manages the restaurant, said it would be devastating for his business to be closed for more than a day.
“This is an issue we have to look out … I really don’t know how we can try and prevent this from happening to us,” Lemons said.
Simms-Kincaid said, “Thieves are so determined to get the copper wiring from the electrical wires that they will do it during a thunderstorm, in front of cameras or even in front of people. They just don’t care who it affects.”
A similar burglary happened at the nearby Captain’s Hard Time Dining in Chatham, shuttering their operation as well. The surveillance camera shows a person walking with a ladder and scaling the building with wire cutters in hand.
Simms-Kincaid said the support she has received from the community has been amazing. Both Harold’s Chicken and 5 Loaves Eatery have reopened. Simms-Kincaid has plans to meet with the Chatham Business Association to see if they can come up with a way to prevent this from happening again. She is also hoping to work with Ald. Roderick Sawyer (6th), chairman of the Chicago City Council’s Black Caucus.
Wakanda, it turns out, isn't real.
